  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) Im curious how this works in Colorado and Washington now The Feds just don't enforce the law, at least against users. They might against growers or dealers, but I doubt it.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Frankly, it's the same thing for marijuana. If I got a DUI right now, I'd probably have to have a sit down with my bosses and there would be several bureaucratic hoops I'd have to jump through, but I'd retain my job. But if my urine tested positive for marijuana ONE TIME, no matter if it's legal in some states, decriminalized in others, and otherwise not harmful, I'd be fired on the spot. I can kind of see the difference there though, despite thinking it's dumb. DUI's aren't usually willful violations. You can have a few beers legally and drive. But you might be drunker than you think, and then it suddenly becomes illegal. With pot there is no grey area. It's always illegal.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) I like Taj but he definitely has the back up quarterback syndrome going for him. Everyone hated Boozer so damn much that Gibson became extremely popular among Bulls fans. But he plays near-starter minutes and closes out games. He's been the "starter" at the 4 for the last season or two.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Well, this is the same front office that sat on their hands many a time before preaching team and playing it safe. This is the same front office that didn't go after Kevin Love until after Andrew Wiggins was already on the table (despite the fact that, for the right offer, he was highly available while they were trying to pry a player away from his hometown and the biggest city in the country and offering $50 million less to do so). There's plenty of blame for the front office, here. How do you know this wasn't being done? edit: and it's not a mistake to go after Melo over Love. They knew Love wasn't getting traded anytime soon, so they went after their primary target first.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) If you are getting the best player in the NBA, you make that trade every single day. Such is the NBA that you can always fill in around stars. You can't always get stars. Lebron isn't better than 3 other all-star quality players. I agree with you that the majority of the time quality>quantity, but I'm taking 2 top ten picks over an overall pick most of the time. It's the safer bet with a bigger upside.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) So you wouldn't have taken LeBron James in a trade for a star player right after he was drafted? I think Lebron's hype was more believable than Wiggins. Wiggins could be an absolute bust in the NBA given the expectations that have been put on him. Does anyone really think he's a franchise guy? Or just a freak athlete that COULD become an all-star?
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) That's not a good analogy. The Nuggets are the Twolves in this scenario. You would be comparing the knicks offer to other teams and I honestly don't remember what other rumored offers were at the time. And honestly, even if they won, I'm pretty sure most NBA teams still would have rather been NYK in that scenario. You don't want to be a team that a star is begging to leave. I don't know why that matters. I'm disagreeing with the general proposition that quality is ALWAYS better than quantity. 15 crap players for Lebron isn't a good deal, but 3 all-stars for Lebron might be.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) In an NBA trade quality is always better than quantity. Always. Nope. Denver won the Melo trade over New York. And especially nope when you're talking about prospects who haven't played a single NBA game yet.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) You'll have to check on your easements and covenants first. I think we're all good there. Only thing I can find is an easement for ComEd on the back 10 feet of my property, but that's nowhere near where an addition would be. I've heard too I need to check for "green space" requirements, but I have a huge yard so I don't see that being an issue either.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) No one was even blaming the Bulls front office. Scs just gets weirdly defensive of them. It's bizarre. But I'll play now. Really the Bulls had similar assets as to what they have now. Gibson, Butler, rights to Mirotic, 2 first round picks. What potentially screwed us was waiting to focus on Love. The Cavs got Wiggins and Lebron. Waiting was for Melo though. I think that's a reasonable move. He's the much better fit.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Your posting as if this pursuit of Kevin Love is 24 hours old when it's actually 17,500 hours old. So, 6 months ago, what should the bulls have offered? Some people just need a scapegoat. The Bulls FO has made numerous mistakes in the past, but the 2010 and 2014 FA periods are not on the list.
  12. Why is Wiggins the easy choice? Weren't pundits talking about possibly trading that #1 pick for 2 top tens in a loaded draft? That's essentially what Minnesota is getting here, plus a really good player in Taj. IMO that beats a deal involving Wiggins and scrap. Cavs have to offer up Bennett and some first round picks in order for me to pull the trigger on that deal over the Bulls. Especially if Flip wants to "win" now and compete for a playoff spot.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) It's because people see that "zOMG ur given up 3 gud playerz for 1 WTH" without realizing how star oriented the NBA really is. This isn't baseball or football. One guy can literally change the landscape for a team. The 2006-07 Celtics went 24-58 and had the second worst record in the NBA. They brought in Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, filled their roster with vets and rookies, and went 66-16 and won the NBA title. THEY IMPROVED BY 42 GAMES WITH THE ADDITION OF (essentially) 2 PLAYERS (plus bench mob types). The Bulls would be insane not to make that trade. Or it's that people think Love is a stat-padder and isn't as good as his numbers suggest. I'd take him with this deal, and I would love the spacing for Rose that he would provide, but I can understand the hesitation. There's a lot of potential with Mirotic and McDermott, and Taj is one of the best defenders in the game. Also, if you're going up against Cleveland or the Spurs or whoever, you need as many offensive weapons as possible. Bringing in Love basically drops you down to 2 (him and Rose), maybe three if you include Gasol. Whereas Mirotic and McDermott, IF you believe the hype, could get you scoring from 4 positions if necessary (Rose, McDermott, Mirotic, Gasol).
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) Things seemed to have decelerated rapidly. ?
  15. QUOTE (TRU @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) So? They all still took less money than what they could have gotten. It doesn't matter if the endorsements made up for that. But it wasn't like they all took 30 million less. It was a couple million a year. In the grand scheme that's nothing, that's all i'm saying. There wasn't some huge sacrifice that deserves praise.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) Dude, no, do not compare an org that convinced 3 superstars (at the time) to take less money to join, made 4 straight finals, got players like Birdman off scrap heap, signed battier and ray allen that led to 2 finals wins, to Cleveland. Hasn't this been debunked once you factor in tax savings + endorsements gained from winning rings?
  17. Has anyone obtained a construction or home equity loan? Or done a major remodel? We have a smallish place and after looking at houses the last month, basically anything we want in terms of size is going to cost way more than we can afford - 600-700K and up - and will require us to move further west of the city. We bought a pretty "cheap" single story ranch for $260k back in 2010. I feel like we could build a huge addition and a second story for way less than that, though admittedly I have no idea how much a reconstruction would cost. Ideally we'd add a second floor on the existing house, and also a two story addition above and out from our attached, two-car garage.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) It really bothers me still that the cavs were allowed to fail so miserably into championship consideration. It's f***ing Cleveland though. It's not like they've been real lucky in the past.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Knowing the Bulls? Yes. Plus for Gar's credibility in the league he can't state a deadline and then not follow through with it. Maybe once, but not as a matter of practice.
  20. Man it would be awesome to stick it to Lebron by foiling his plan to get Love AND hopefully dominate his Cavs team for the next couple of seasons.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) Sun-Times Basketball ‏@suntimes_hoops 6m Per source: Forman put a deadline on TWolves response so that there isn’t this back-and-forth playing the Cavs and Bulls against each other. Forman be like "get outta my miiind" Good. Bulls have nothing to lose here and everything to gain. Although I have a question...if the Bulls couldn't get Melo the 96 million dollar max even with moving Taj, how are they going to sign Love to a max deal next year? Just hope the cap number goes up enough?
  22. Wouldn't it be really s***ty of the Bulls to trade these guys given the promises that were made? KC Johnson tweeted yesterday and 2 weeks ago that the Bulls promised Mirotic a long term commitment and that's why he opted out.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) If you played in high school what do you wish your HS coach taught you? I wish he had coached more. Our practice was essentially just playing a round of 18 on a ladder system and you moved up and down on the roster depending on how well you did against the guy next to you. My improvement over the 4 years was due to my own changes and study.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) I can ignore it because that's not true. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/evan-defilip..._b_5071639.html The CDC? I think my 80% figure came from a DOJ study from the early 00's. I'll have to look for the link later. I know I've posted it in one of these threads before.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) Good job? Just wanted to help you feel like you played the role of discriminated-group-hero today. I know you get off on it.
