  1. OMG! They called a foul on Miami!
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 15, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) Why did Thibs not sub in Marco at any point? He did the same thing in game 3. I don't get it.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ May 15, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) The trailer for "Captain Phillips" is my favorite trailer of the year. Love Greengrass. That looks awesome.
  4. I enjoyed Dr. Cole's.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Not sure where else to put this: http://www.indystar.com/article/20130515/B...d-child-support Good for Indiana

Anyone planning to read Inferno by Dan Brown? In looking at some of the reviews, I didn't realize there was so much love/hate for him and his books. I won't buy it until it's under $10 for the Kindle, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it like I've enjoyed all of his other books.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) That's pretty cool looking, unfortunate for the home owners of course, I don't get your snark though. I really wasn't being snarky, just poking fun at a really terrible movie (except for Emmy Rossum)
  8. Ice wave! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthvide...omes-in-US.html I watched 20 minutes of The Day After Tomorrow last night too. It's real!
  9. Well, I learned that if you disagree with SS, or don't find a particular issue as important as he does, you don't "get it" because you're a moron that lacks comprehension skills.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) 1) More make-up, much "prettier" face or appearance 2) Tighter outfit, noticeably smaller/tinier waistline 3) The "wholesome" Disney-esque hint of cleavage in the new version 4) Clothes are less frumpy and more fashionable....also reinforcing idea girls need to dress "sexy" instead of being judged by their brains/merit Let's put it this way. I want to see a Disney cartoon where the girl is 100% covered by a hijab or burkha, with the story taking place in a Muslim/Middle Eastern country (no, Alladin didn't reflect any of this culture, if you can remember back that far). Where all you can see are the eyes, hands and maybe the feet (if in sandals). When that actually happens, I'll believe there's a new level of progress in the world (and media) How on Earth is that progress? "Hey little girls, we don't want you to be princesses that show off their raisins. Instead, we want to completely cover you up. We don't want to see your body or face at all. Oh no, too tempting for the more important men in your life. Oh, and don't leave the house unless your man commands you to! Remember, that rock line could form at any minute!!!" I'd rather girls were expected to look like hookers than woman who cover themselves from head to toe.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Every week, there's an allegation about this. One week, it's Katie Holmes. The next week, it's Denise Richards or Kate Beckinsale. Ok? And did Mark Wahlberg or Dwayne Johnson or Gerard Butler take roids to get ripped?
  12. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) But they don't show a wide array of healthy body types. It's very possible for a woman to be healthy without being a twig. And that body type is very, very rarely depicted in Hollywood. I think you get a mixed bag and you just don't realize it. Melissa McCarthy isn't exactly a size 0. Jennifer Lawrence isn't a twig. I'm blanking right now but there are many more. Unless you're playing the part of the funny fat guy, what male leads are really unattractive/fat? All of your action stars/James Bond characters are super fit, clean face, good teeth, etc.
  13. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) No, I can show that young women, to acheive the "ideal" level of thin resort to eating disorders that weaken them. But not just that, the "ideal" female body type actually makes those women weaker and unhealthy. While men may decide that they need to bulk up to reach the "ideal" male body type, it's distinguishable for a number of reasons: 1) Not every male lead looks like an extra in "300." 2) The "ideal" male is strong and healthy. You get there by playing sports and working out. 3) The cause of high steroid use in high schoolers does not define steroid use across gender lines. Rather it says 1 in 5 high schoolers use steroids. Why they do that could be because Hollywood and ESPN makes them think strong gets the girls. Or they could be doing that to increase performance in sports. In either event, the "ideal" female form weakens. The "ideal" male form is strong and self confident. 4) Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Jason Bateman, Seth Rogen, Toby McGuire, Leo DiCaprio, Kevin James, Adam Sandler. Those guys are regular guys physically. Not muscled up. Not roided up. There are much more positive body images available to men in the media than to women. Let's be fair though - the woman of Hollywood aren't anorexic. They're healthy women who are probably skinnier than their average counterpart, but not unhealthy looking.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) It's impossible to view women sexually in some contexts (like sex! and dating!) but not in others (like work! or politics!)? When women doll themselves up for sex/dating, what are they trying to look like? Those shrek-like characters from Disney? Or the princesses and chicks on magazines? Oh wait, that's because men prefer that?! OMG! I don't disagree and I think it's great that a young Victoria Secret model is touring around the country talking to young girls about how her photos are fake and not realistic. That said I don't think making the Disney girl more "attractive" is making her more "sexual." I don't think kids think that way at all, I think feminist parents do. Yeah, but we've advanced enough to get to that point. We didn't need "attractive" skinny women in the past because we were more concerned about a healthy woman who could have kids. Now you don't need that. Starlets were born because men were attracted to them. It's not like there is no demand from men that caused what we have now. And I don't think you're ever going to go back. All things that can be said about males and yet those conversations don't happen.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) That's my point. Everyone knows she is Renee Zellweger, deliberately gaining weight or trying to look unattractive. (She was Jennifer Lawrence before Jennifer Lawrence was...haha....there's another girl who was knocked by the media for not being a size 0 or even 2) It's not the same thing. Beneath her appearance, everyone knows she is quite pretty, or, at the very least, cute. I can't access IMDB here in China, but I assume it's Bridget Jones and Jerry Maguire. Bridget Jones and the sequel, but Maguire would have been my next cite. And I dunno, I never found her very attractive on the Hollywood Scale. She's certainly not a Kate Upton, who I see you continue to exploit as your avatar despite the fact that women are negatively impacted by her looks.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) I'll give another movie example. Seth Rogen is far from cute/handsome in a typical sense. Yet his stoner/internet porn impresario character can pick up a woman like Katherine Hiegl in KNOCKED UP. Show me ANY Hollywood movie where an ugly or even average looking girl is with the handsomest/cutest guy and it's not a joke or punchline of the movie... Yet I could probably cite 100 movies in the last twenty years where the geeky but later successful/discovering himself boy/young man gets the "hottie" girl (the appropriately named, "She's Out of My League"....with Eve Angel and Jay Baruchel being one of many in that genre. Any movie with Renee Zellweger. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243155/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317198/
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Seriously? Everything vs. anything. Important distinction. "Do not sexualize everything" is substantially different from "Do not sexualize anything" But you can't have it both ways and that's your backtrack. Either we enjoy the hot models on the magazine covers or the hot chicks in movies and consider it acceptable to sexualize women in certain situations (and accept the influence on girls as a result of that) or we don't. Putting up an equal amount of "shrek girls" isn't going to do anything to solve this issue with young girls because men are still going to want/talk about/look at hot women. They have plus models and plus magazines and plus clothing stores and yadda yadda. Is that changing the pressure on women? Nope. They still see what men are attracted to and what they want. This is why the entire argument is dumb IMO. Because your answer has to be to de-sexualize EVERYTHING, not just SOME things.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Everyone is judged by attractiveness. It's not very "rationale" (sic) to make up some arguments nobody is actually making in order to knock them down. Women are, without a question, sexualized in our society more than men. And that wouldn't have anything to do with men being more sexual by nature, would it?
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) Still waiting for a quote there, buddy.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) Hence, the dating/pick-up book THE GAME, and all the knockoff's and derivations....teaching average or below-average looking men how to pick-up and have casual sex with knockouts, and that every woman should be rated on a 1-10 scale. Heck, look at the beginning of FACEBOOK, the "rating" system for "hotties" in the Harvard dorms. Websites like "hot or not." No one would deny that (1) men do it more often and (2) men are more upfront/open about it. But guys are judged all the time and to pretend otherwise is just stupid.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Shack and Jenks, I wouldnt bother. Weve now just gone into "personal opinion". While some of us can be rationale and admit that EVERYONE is being constantly judged by attractiveness, other people have to make up some argument that "it happens more to women". I just posted evidence about how many boys take steroids due to image issues, but no one cares. Its just simply "PROTECT OUR INNOCENT DAUGHTERS". Screw that noise. Either we protect everyone (and contrary to certain people that includes boys), or we protect no one. Dar, you win a medal for lacking reading comprehension, dar!
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Man, you just got gold in the 4x4 "not even remotely close to getting it" relay. A bar with drinking can often be a sexual/attractiveness context. The idea isn't that people are wrong or shouldn't judge others on sexual appeal ever. The reality is that women are judged on sexual appeal constantly, men aren't and that this leads to self-esteem and body issues for women and also marginalization. Nice backtrack.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) I can't remember where I was reading this....but lots of financial firms "reverse discriminate" and hire bald/pudgy/glasses-wearing/accountant males for their advertising campaigns. Supposedly, it makes everyone feel more comfortable, when investing or talking about their finances. We're programmed not to trust someone "too good looking" because they're distracting. Find an ugly or average looking woman at a BMW/Audi/Mercedes dealership or showroom. The classic Hollywood example. Once an actress is in her late 30's/early 40's, she's no longer desirable or "sexy" enough, so she becomes a mother/comic in her roles. Whereas guys like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are pushing 50 (remember Catherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery in Entrapment?) customarily have 25-30 year old girlfriends or love interests, the most recent pairing, Cruise and Olga Kurylenko in Oblivion. Besides THE GRADUATE and American Pie (and those MILF fixations are the storyline or joke that we're all in on), how many movies can you name where the young male lead is with a significantly older woman? American Gigolo, lol? Demi Moore/Ashton Kutcher is the real life example.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Where's the case where men are sexualized and judged on their attractiveness constantly? Go read some articles covering female CEO's, actors, and politicians and note how many times their appearance is deemed a legitimate topic of discussion. Then go read some articles about male CEO's, actors and politicians. Look at how many unattractive men hold prominent positions versus how many women. Go to a bar on a Friday night. All the women judge men equally, right? They all talk to the fat uglies as much as the tall muscular guys, right?
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) No, I want the world to be a less-s***ty place where people are valued regardless of their looks. OK great, where's the outrage that Don Draper/Jon Hamm is a sex symbol on TV. I certainty don't look that good in a suit!
