Connecticut school shooting
I saw they're using these printers to make synthetic ears, which would be attached to kids/adults missing ears, and then they graft skin over the plastic/gel/whatever material. Pretty crazy/awesome.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 10, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) How would they track that any more than they could track who buys an $8,000 stereo or diamond necklace? The articles make it seem like only one company making the printer and a specific software can make the gun. Edit: Well, I guess multiple printers, but a specific software: Still, 3d printers are very new and it's not a product an average american is going to buy. They're industrial machines.

What's more important? Freedom of speech/dissemination of information on the web or safety from guns? http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2013/...tate-department Seems odd that the state department would freak out over this. I'd imagine being able to track who buys $8,000 3d printers (and the material needed for them) would be pretty easy.

Investing Thread
rabble rabble rabble, capital gains taxes, wall street, white rich men, rabble rabble rabble! That better? So, I have a set regimen of adding to my various mutual funds every 30-45 days, and I swear every single time I do it, the very next day the market drops. Without fail for quite a while now. It'd be nice to gain on that investment on day one just once.

I thought I read somewhere that he hasn't even graduated from school yet because they haven't had their finals? Might be a reason for the delay.

Books that made an impact. Or, books that you couldnt quite finish
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Am I the only one who found The Great Gatsby book in HS to be extremely boring? I mean, I'll admit I only read about 5% of the assigned books throughout grade school/high school/college, but I remember the Spark Notes being incredibly boring w/ that book. I guess I just don't get it, or I'm not cultured enough. Nope. I agree with you. I read it like 4 years ago and was bored out of my mind. I kept reading only to say I've read the book.

2012-2013 NBA thread
They're back at home 1-1. They've taken home court away. If I had said that a week ago, you all would have thought I was crazy. Last night was all about the officiating and the home court calls. The Bulls absolutely deserved a lot of their foul calls and a lot of the techs (and ejections). But at some point the Bulls were getting calls against them to get the game under control while the Heat were not. One obvious example was Noah "running over" Lebron and getting called, and then Lebron running over Nate the very next trip down the floor without getting called at all. Or Chalmers wrapping his arm around Noah's neck, Anderson purposefully blasting Noah in the back, or Lebron throwing an elbow and managing a double tech despite Noah not doing anything in retaliation. Whatever, that s*** happens. At least guys like Noah and Butler got some rest finally.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 8, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Lebron can elbow anyone at any time. It's never a foul. Especially since he already has one. He could literally punch someone and the refs wouldn't have the balls to eject him.

I think the Heat destroy them by 18-20. Look for the refs to call a much tighter game that clearly benefits the Heat and Lebron specifically.

Technology catch-all thread
Well, 30 minutes on the phone with two AT&T support offices and they matched Comcast's price and saved me the installation fee/cost of a modem and router. The Service Rep was also kind enough to tell me to call back again in 6 months for another "modification" to my package. Score some points to AT&T's good service.

Technology catch-all thread
I can't remember where we were talking about internet recently, but I'll post it here anyway. I'm debating whether to change my internet provider. Right now I get my internet through AT&T U-Verse. Cable is through DirecTV so no bundling of services needed. My plan is up to 12 mbps for $57 a month, including the modem rental fee. It looks like Comcast I can get the "Performance" plan which is speeds up to 25mbps for $29.99 for 6 months and 49.99 thereafter (plus 7 a month for a rental fee)...so an average of $47. Seems like a no brainer but a couple of questions: (1) How do people like comcast internet, and specifically the 25mbs speed (since I know that's a bulls*** marketing number and the actual speed is much lower). Any outage problems or bandwidth throttles? I don't do torrents, just web browsing and lots of movie/tv show streaming and occasional gaming. (2) Does the modem you have come with a built in wi-fi router? That's a benefit of the AT&T system, but for $10/month savings I could go buy a wireless router and still come out ahead probably.
