NBA/NFL age limits
I wonder if these guys (projected lottery picks) get some kind of insurance coverage for this type of thing. On a lighter note, odds Illinois loses to Purdue tonight? IMO, 48%

I see. Well, keep ripping up North Dakota. South Dakota is better anyway.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) Agreed. Im not sure what a player would say. Some guys want to play through injuries, Deng could be saying that "he has no pain" and "he is fine." But part of being a coach is that you have to draw the line for your players. I just feel that Thibs has a tendency to push that line farther than other coaches. It may not lead to injuries, it may make no difference, but it just leaves room to question. Especially after Rose was severely injured last year, after people were questioning whether Thibs should be sitting Rose/Deng more. You protect your valuable assets. Thats my opinion. But Rose played the least amount of games in his entire career last year, missing what, 30+ games? He was as fresh as he'll ever be in the first week in the playoffs and he still got hurt. Personally, I think the playing time thing is rubbish. I understand the complaint if they were playing 3 games in 4 nights and playing 45+ minutes each game. But that's got nothing to do with their health and more to do with an ability to give 110% (!) effort in the 3rd and 4th games, to the point that the team is at a competitive disadvantage. I haven't seen Thibs overwork his players to that point yet.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/opec-surviva...-152029951.html I didn't realize that number was so high. I figured like 40% or maybe 50% at most. Good news.

This Rose story could easily run out of control too. There would be a severe backlash if he didn't come back this season, especially in Chicago.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) I think Rose's camp is thinking about what happened to Rose last year when he kept playing through injuries. The Bulls are getting a bad reputation recently about how they are treating injured players. Whether that is right or wrong, theyve been making guys who are hurt play a ton of minutes. I've heard fans say this, and media pundits say this, but have any of his players ever complained about it?

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) Even as a Michigan fan, I'm starting to think they maybe a tad overrated. Lots of holes. MSU making everything doesn't help. They folded in the 2nd half, but MSU was winning that game even if Michigan came to play. They were hitting everything in sight. Just one of those games.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) This is so completely wrong. If you have to raise taxes on businesses to shore up the debt problem, you're taking that money away from businesses who could potentially hire new workers. If that's the angle he's going with, then that's absolutely true.

I've had that recurring nightmare. We get strung along for another 3-4 seasons, hoping he gets back but he never does. Meanwhile Thibs is good enough to keep the franchise winning to the point where we're stuck in no mans land in the draft for the foreseeable future. Stuck being "good" but not "good enough." Luckily that won't happen. Rose will come back even stronger/better than before ala Peterson. We shock Miami in the ECF and win a 7 game Finals against the Thunder. And then we suffer through a terrible baseball season until a mediocre football season starts.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) I love it when you argue with yourself. Yeah, part of me wants to say that's enough, another part says beating 2 conference opponents at home really isn't enough to warrant a 3-4 seed in the tournament. But whatever, the still have a few chances to prove if they're that good.

How is Gonzaga ranked so high? And they got 2 first place votes? WTF? They're good, but who have the beaten? OK St? Kansas St? The best two teams on their schedule (Illinois, Butler) were losses. I don't really see how Ohio State is still in the top 15 (or top 25 really) either. Who have they beaten? I mean, I get after about the top ten the next 20 teams are about the same, but still. Edit: Forgot they beat Michigan and Wisconsin at home. But that's about it. I mean, they haven't lost to anyone terrible either, but I wouldn't consider them a 3-4 seed at this point.

The Walking Dead should just be called The Endless Discussion. Christ all they do is talk. 5 minutes of fun action, and then talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk OMG stop talking. That was a pretty terrible way to start the 2nd half of the season IMO. Merle was funny though. And I liked the idea that Daryl left. Should make for some fun interactions between the two brothers. I hated Rick seeing the ghost in front of the whole group though. That's going to make it really difficult to believe that they still trust him to be their leader if he's becoming crazy right in front of there eyes. Also, are Carol and White Prisoner #2 going to get it on?

2013 TV Thread
I enjoyed the premiere but was let down by the second episode. They needed to do a better job explaining why the leads were so pro-communist and anti-american to start. I feel like they did the opposite - they established that both had s***ty lives at home, became spies, live nicely in America but still want to bring death to democracy and capitalism. How does that make sense? Also, when you start the show with one of these people openly questioning whether to defect, their undercover missions become less important and the audience loses interest. Why do I care what they're doing when one of them doesn't really care? Why are they risking it all? And then Keri Russell's character at the end of this episode basically said the same thing as her husband in the first episode - yeah, i love my kids, maybe this isn't worth it. Hey daughter, let's get your ear pierced like these other American girls! So neither really believes in what they're doing anymore, they both are accepting of American values, and yet we're supposed to believe that they'll risk their lives for these crazy spy missions? Meh. They lost me. (and that's ignoring the really convenient FBI agent neighbor storyline)

I still don't understand what Zeller was doing. Yogi was right there to guard the 3 pt line for any kickback to Griffey. And he's got McClaurin who can't shoot at all. He should have been in the paint the entire play regardless of what Sam did. On the radio this morning Groce said they ran that play three times - twice to Richardson for threes and then the game winner.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Yeah, they were really front loaded with the crap games on the road, good games at home in the first half, and then the opposite the second half. We'll see how good they really are in the next few weeks. I think if Illinois can get to 6 wins, and win a game in the tournament they'd be in no question. Those 4 wins are huge, and they don't have a lot of "bad" losses. The committee chairman last night basically said conference record doesn't matter. Beat the lower tier teams and try to steal one of those other games and there's no question they're in.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 08:20 AM) I'll add that to the list of keys to beating Indiana: 1. Limit fast break points 2. Play them outside of Bloomington 3. Put on Wisconsin jerseys Two is huge. Have they beaten anyone away from home? I feel like all their big wins this year are at home.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) http://wonkette.com/500403/bill-oreilly-ma...ink#more-500403 This is why the reflexive "liberal media!!!" stuff is so silly. I'm one of the last people you'll hear cry liberal media bias. I don't think it has anything to do with a liberal agenda, just more of what the younger, more coveted audience brings them, and they just happen to be more liberal. Hating on Bush was fashionable. Hating on Obama is a sin. This administration has been dealt a f***ing cakewalk given the "awful" and "horrendous" Bush administation policies that he not only continues, but has expanded. Hey btw, how's that Gitmo closing going? OH s***! It's still open?! Remember when that was the biggest issue in the history of the world? Oh what's that, a bunch of low level Marines pissing on dead Muslims and taking photos? That's not like Abu Grahib, Obama can't be faulted for the actions of a few! Geez, now that I think about it, the media covers those issues every night...
