  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 06:48 AM) What are everyone's thoughts on Boston right now? I think they're a flash in the pan, but I would love for them to be the 3 seed to face the Heat if it came to that. They match up really well for some reason. The main problem with Miami IMO is that Bosh is not playing anywhere near the level he was playing last year. His last double-double was at the end of February. It's ether Wade/Lebron go off and Chalmers/Battier have a good game hitting the three, or they lose. The bench is still terrible, they lack any real post presence, they don't have much depth. Honestly I think they're worse than last year and it's showing. Magic made a good point last weekend during NBA countdown - the regular season means dick, BUT, in big time, nationally televised games against the top teams you want to send a message. You want to prove how dominate you are. Miami hasn't done that all season. I don't think they've had a dominate performance over a top team all season. Can they turn it on for the playoffs? Yes. But to what level? Do they really think they can just turn it on starting in round 2?
  2. Calipari is like Pete Carroll - do some shady things, or allow shady players/handlers into the program, and then high tail it out of town AFTER getting a ring and all the praise and notoriety that comes with it.
  3. Ah, the old "well they do it too so whatever" response.
  4. Man, imagine the outrage if this were a white person dropping N-bombs on the radio. http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/250102/8/...taff-apologizes
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Has that ever been indicated? No, but it's more fun to speculate that he's fled the country to evade justice for his senseless killing.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) George Zimmerman has yet to be charged with a crime. Doesn't mean he won't be. We'll know Friday when, GASP!, we'll find out what the cops actually know instead of relying on a police report and some grainy video.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) A dead body and the killer holding a weapon? And a pretty iffy statement by Zimmerman about the whole thing, and boom, there you go, maybe the statute was adequate in this situation and really it was the s***ty county state's attorney handling the case.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 11:30 AM) George Zimmerman seems to have disappeared and he still hasn't been charged with anything. Um, you've seen the bounties on his head right? Do you blame him?
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) Just because I hate this line of argument: (2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful. turns into (2) A law enforcement agency must use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1). (rest of section removed) And done. Probable cause is such a low hurdle these days, i'm not really sure what the big deal is. This statute is no different than any other criminal law on the books - cops can't get a phone call saying X did Y to Z and arrest them before they perform any sort of investigation. They have to come up with some probable cause for the arrest.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) I don't know why some people still find this hard to grasp. If it hadn't been for the national outrage, George Zimmerman would have walked off into the sunset. The police weren't investigating. The DA wasn't pressing charges. If the media hadn't picked up this story, that was it. It was done. He was getting away from even being investigated or seriously questioned over shooting someone to death. No I get that. And i'm fine with arguing that the handling of the case initially was poor. But we're beyond that now.
  11. im starting to get a little scared of meeting the Knicks in the playoffs if Carmelo continues playing like this
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) I think I've been pretty consistent within this thread at saying you flat out can't believe the "Eyewitness" testimony of anyone involved in this case, except for the portion of it that was actively recorded. A kid is dead. The guy who shot him admitted to initiating things by stalking the kid and also admits to shooting him. This was also recorded. There ought to be a crime in there somewhere. If there isn't, then the law needs rewritten somewhere. And you keep with this "stalking" crap. He followed the kid after he lost sight of him. There's nothing illegal about that.
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Jenks that is an awesome post. You tossed in everything from Illini basketball to commies. I have no f***ing idea what you meant, but I loved reading it. I think I agree with most of your thoughts, but I did get a little lost. I'm saying it's funny that in one situation you can never, ever believe what you're being told, even in the court of law, but in another situation every piece of speculation and hearsay evidence is 100% irrefutable proof that someone is going to get away with murder. I'm saying everyone just breath and calm the f*** down. Stop putting the cart before the horse. See the picture I posted above.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) We know that George Zimmerman admitted to shooting Trayvon Martin, does not deny doing so and did not confess under intense questioning but immediately after the crime! I just think it's dumb to assume that absolute worst when the investigation is still ongoing. If he ends up walking off into the sunset without any sort of trial or grand jury involvement, then fine, have at it. Until then, what's the point. Zimmerman shooting Martin and Martin ending up dead is not a slam dunk, getting away with murder case no matter how much you guys want to assume that.
  15. You know, I'll just add too that it's odd to me that someone like Balta (liberal-commie....j/k!) is probably on the other side of the fence when it comes to the death penalty because it's rare to have a case where it's 100% certain that someone did the crime, and in some cases because of DNA testing and whatnot convictions have been overturned. So in those cases it's "NEVER assume anything, ALWAYS assume that the evidence is wrong and the person is 100% innocent." But in this case it's absolutely flipped. We STILL do not know exactly what happened, it's all a bunch of reports, which if the last Illinois men's basketball coaching search taught me anything, it's that reporting and journalism is pretty f***ing worthless these days. Even so, he's 100% guilty and a dirty racist to boot, and now he's going to go scot-free and this just proves that all whites hate all blacks and the world will end in 21 days.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) yes, that's fair. An unarmed kid getting gunned down isn't a big deal, and there's no reason for outrage when the person who did it walks.
  17. Some would say that Balta likes to blow things way out of proportion.
  18. QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) I'm a little curious about the whispers regarding the Parker recruitment also. I've never heard a bad thing about him. Another thing to note is that Howard was part of a dysfunctional staff that had disagreements on how things should be run. Was he part of the problem? I'm not sure, but I heard that he boosts the players egos quite a bit (which probably helps him recruiting), but it supposedly caused some friction with Paul, Richardson, and Meyers regarding their roles on the team. Yeah my fear was the relationship between Groce and all the freshman, since the freshman were the closest to Howard. But all indications are that everyone has already bought into what Groce is selling.
  19. Where'd you read he wasn't in the top 3? I see a report that three other programs are recruiting him the hardest.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Okafor from Whitney Young just came out and said Illinois is not in top 3 because his main relationship was with Howard. He's 2014 so still time to make a new relationship, but really I think he was a pipe dream and a dominate post player doesn't really fit into what Groce wants to do.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Would parker be worth the trouble that could follow? I dont know. I am not sure he makes Illinois the best team in the conference at that point and there are alot of whispers around his recruitment. I hope they dont feel like they have to go all in on him regardless of the trouble that you could get in. I haven't heard a single bad whisper about his recruitment, other than the fact that Kentucky is involved. What have you heard? He's with a solid AAU club and his parents are his representatives, not some older brother or handler.
  22. And with Jerrance, I dunno. Do we NEED him for recruiting? No. But he was such a solid guy and proud representative for the school. He's the only link the program has to it's most recent national success. Is there now an issue with alums like Deron Williams because the school fired it's coached and didn't retain one of his best friends/teammates? Hope not...
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) I wouldn't be too excited about Kendrick Nunn. Injuries and not really all that consistent. The bigger part of that is he's best friends with Parker and they want to play in college together. Add to that Parker's recent comments about wanting to stay in-state and Illinois' chances with him go up, up and up. I still think it's a long shot, but they're in a good position with him.

Also, finally caught up on Sunday's Mad Men and The Killing. Mad Men was better I thought. The Don bedroom scene resulted in a good "what?! did that really just happen?" reaction. Also another good scene with Peggy/Roger. Love that even though he's a named partner no one really views him as a threatening figure anymore. The Joan storyline was a little slow, but still sort of cringe-worthy at times. Ultimately what happened seemed pretty predictable. Now it's time to rope Roger back into that story. It was interesting to talk to some of my older co-workers this morning about their memories of the Chicago nurse murders. I think that episode would have resonated pretty well with them if they had watched the show. The Killing. Meh. Is it better? Yes. Is it still boring as sin with little to know plot progress? Yes. Not really understanding Holder's dilemma. He got used because he's a junky. But it's not like he willfully did anything wrong. He was duped, and he's got the one honest cop in Seattle as his partner that clearly understands something fishy is going on. Why wouldn't you want to find out who was running that whole scam and take him/her down (in addition to finding Rosie's killer)? Stan's wife and her storyline make no sense to me whatsoever. I tuned out during all of that. I watch this show so I can participate in my website's podcast/show review post (www.stewover.com plug!), otherwise I really wouldn't waste my time with it.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 07:44 AM) You'll be able to put them down after the third one. It took me a month each to get through the 4th and 5th books. I'm in the same boat. I read one and two in about a week apiece, took me like 4 months to finish three, and i've been on book 4 for almost a year. It's so tough when 50% of the book are characters that I find incredibly boring. I come back to it every now and again and read a chapter, but at this point i've forgotten a lot of what was going on so who knows if i'll ever finish them.
