QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Lebron has sacrificed his own game to try and win a title. Lebron has done everything thats asked of him. Lebron shows up and plays every day, he plays more minutes than anyone. (edit) Why do I think Lebron isnt a bad guy? What has he done to ever hurt anyone? He doesnt get duis, he doesnt hurt people. Hes a "villain" in basketball, I guess I dont get caught up in the face/heel thing, thats just all how the media portrays it. Nope. That's kinda the whole point of everyone here - he doesn't play in the 4th, and that's the problem. And you've changed the argument into some personal "do we like Lebron as a person argument." I don't give a s*** about Lebron as a person. I give a s*** about Lebron as a basketball icon who is going to be a historic figure in the sport. All i've heard from him, his crew, and ESPN is how great he is/will be, how he's the next MJ (if not better). Excuse me if I feel a little satisfaction for watching all that hype fall short in the biggest games of his career, given what a huge self-centered prick he is, as he showed the world last summer. Perhaps if they lose and the narrative of his career changes (to he's just a really good player that could go down as a top 50, top 25 type) maybe the "hate" won't be as bad (not likely, again, given the events of last summer).

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Jenks, Go back and read this thread where I go after Lebron for weeks about the decision and how he ruined his chance to be the greatest of all time. But that was his choice, he chose not to have those expectations, so I dont see what is wrong with him not being the best player ever. When he went to Miami, he made the decision that he was just going to be another great player. I think you're choosing to ignore the obvious here to argue your point. I get it, Lebron didn't have THAT bad of a game. But the counter to that is he's supposed to be better than what he's shown. He brought that upon himself by the way he's acted during the last decade. He's a prima donna who demands respect as one of the best players in the game but hasn't lived up to that hype. If he were a more humble guy - hell, if he were just a normal, confident player - no one would be having these reactions. But what he pulled this offseason just proves this point. If you're just a normal confident guy do you force 5 teams to come beg for your services, knowing full well that you were going to play in Miami? Do you spend offseasons complaining about not having enough help around you? Do you tell the league before the season starts that winning will be "easy" and that you expect to win 8 championships? If you're gonna talk like that and act like that you better back it up. He hasn't, so people are responding accordingly.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) Look Lebron is a cocky guy. But Im never going to hate on a player for wanting to win more championships. Ive yet to see anywhere in a clip where Lebron proclaims himself the best player. People said that he deserved more criticism because he calls himself the greatest ever (its just not true). You watched the Decision right? And the nonsense he and his crew put on before actually deciding?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Can you find me a quote where Lebron says hes the best player ever? I dont ever recall him personally saying it, Ive seen other people call him it, but I dont believe hes said that. From a 2 second google search: "Everywhere I've been, I've been the best player. I love being a leader, and I love being the best. I just want to get better. It's not about being cocky or selfish or anything like that. It's just how I am." (USA Today, Nov. 21, 2005) I doubt he's said "i'm the greatest ever, f*** you all, including MJ." But his actions and his complete acceptance of that view from his "crew" (including ESPN) express the same point. He's the exact opposite of a guy like Rose, who's humble almost to a fault.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) People are just biased against Lebron, and while I may hate what Lebron did, Im not going to completely ignore all of the statistical evidence to hate on the guy. This sentence drives me crazy because this is precisely what you're doing. Great, he's played really well for 3 quarters, but when it comes time to be a superstar, to be a hall of famer, an all time great, he fades away. That's proven by the stats you continue to ignore.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
No one is saying Lebron LOST the Heat the game. Everyone is saying that someone who considers himself (and has promoted himself as) the greatest player ever didn't do much at all in the 4th quarter to try and win the game. How is that a hard concept to grasp? If you're the best you do everything possible to win the game for your team. Lebron didn't do that, despite the ridiculous natural advantages he has over other people in the league.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) How did Wade do more than Lebron? The refs just gave Wade a ton more free throws, you can rewatch the game but when Lebron gets hit, he wasnt getting the same calls as Wade. In no universe did Wade deserve 9 more free throws than Lebron. Furthermore, Wade contributed to 39 points (8 assists, 23 points), Lebron contributed to 37 points (10 assists, 17 points). and also had 10 rebounds (compared to Wade's 2). Lebron took more shots than Wade, he made more shots than Wade, he had more assists than Wade, he had more rebounds than Wade. The only thing Lebron didnt do more than Wade, was shoot free throws and that is because when Wade flopped they gave him the call, whereas when Lebron drove they called a charge on him. If they gave Lebron that call, its an and 1, but to say that Wade had a bigger impact than Lebron is just untrue. I wont even get into the fact that after Wade got hurt he barely even tried on defense. On the other hand Lebron basically manned every position besides for the 5. Lebron may not be scoring 30, but he is giving the Heat a chance. This is one of those situations in sports where you can't use stats to prove your point. Anyone watching the Finals knows that Wade is the only reason Miami hasn't lost yet. He's been the best player on the court except for maybe Dirk. Whereas Lebron stands around and "facilitates," Wade is doing everything to keep his team in the game. The 4th quarter scoring, the timely offensive rebounds and put backs, the timely blocks....that's all Wade, not Lebron. And certainly Lebron isn't LOSING games for the Heat, but he sure as hell isn't helping them close out games or win games in the 4th. How do you call yourself the best basketball player on the planet, in the self-admitted biggest game of your life, and score 2 (garbage) pts? How do you just stand around and waste possessions during crunch time? I'm so tired of people comparing Lebron to ANY of the all-time greats, let alone Michael Jordan. I find it funny that Lebron has apologists around the country that are saying he got a triple double, he plays defense, expectations are too high, blah blah. Guess what, if he wasn't such an ego-centric asshole who claimed to be the best player in the history of the game before every setting foot on an NBA court, maybe NBA fans wouldn't have that opinion of him. But that's what he gets. He wanted all the attention, well, now he's got it, and he's failing miserably at proving the hype.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) I'm deliberately not watching any of this series, but if JVG is doing that, that's somewhat disappointing. This used to be one of the better PBP lineups in sports because they'd actually call things out pretty evenly and give good detail on how the game was progressing. I mean I don't want to make it seem like he's lacking ANY objectivity, but it's pretty clear what he thinks about Wade/Lebron/the Heat (the best thing to ever be witnessed by man), so he's ok with them getting the superstar treatment to the point where he expects it and if they miss a call or call them for something he voices his disagreement.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) has anyone noticed JVG whining that people are giving him s*** about being such a Heat homer? He's been incredibly annoying all series, and unfortunately his "analysis" has really suffered. This broadcasting group used to be my favorite (hopefully they can get Kerr to replace Jackson), but JVG just shuts up when something doesn't go the Heat's way. And his "oh that's a clear no call" or "that's a missed call!" commentary rarely fits what actually happened, especially on replays.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Hey why are you making such great arguments against Republican plans for a "race to the bottom"? Well, i'm mostly pointing out that it's also a liberal plan. But yeah, i'm much more moderate than you think. If he had given these "deals" to small to mid size companies, I would have been all for it. The big companies (and rich people) can suck a nut, at least in times like these.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Its not new, muggings have been happening in River North forever. The fact that its a mob action in daylight certainly makes it semi-unique, but that doesn't mean that something dramatic is happening to the city. Its just a new tactic. I lived on the near north side and commuted daily to/from downtown at all hours of the day for about 5 years. This stuff is new. Of course there have been muggings before, but not like this, and not so frequently. Call it a new tactic if you'd like, but it's "new" and it's a disturbing trend that's been going on for about a month.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) This is a perfect example of how people get whipped up in a media-induced frenzy. Crime rates have been going down, a lot, for some time now. So its not about "what the hell is happening to this city". The city isn't have a problem. Its that some crimes individually are getting more disturbing, and in the case of the mobs and group attacks, its that the criminals are finding new ways to succeed. Doesn't mean the city is any less safe, as evidence tells us its in fact safer. Have you been following the news? It's the same type of criminals committing the same types of crimes in some of the "safest" areas of the city. That's completely new. It's not as if the media just decided to open up a crime desk.
