QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) Then there's nothing else for me to say. And the right is the close-minded side, I forgot.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Those theories comprise of facts while the bible includes none. Wow, really? So the whole Bible is made up? Interesting. I guess I see zero difference between a book of ancient history, say for example A History of the Peloponnesian War, and the Bible. Both are comprised entirely of first hand accounts. Yet one is "fact," and the other is not? I'm not arguing that a book that outlines the theory of genetics isn't more ...believable?... than a book which basically says "these are my words, thus they be true." But I mean come on, the line between the two isn't that clear.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) In other words, he's exactly like O'Reilly. I don't watch him, but I've never heard O'Reilly call someone "an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against woman and against politicians with whom he disagrees."

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) When the bible is a big portion of your facts then I understand why that would come off as preachy. Versus what? A book filled with unprovable theories?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) I'm arguing that when I hear that, providing data to counter a person's political belief...you're making a political argument and that's how I hear it. Which is why it seems that people on the "left" often feel like the reasoning behind a "right" person's belief is "preaching,", but when the roles are switched it's providing proof of the only possible answer. I agree with Northside. A GOOD professor provides facts, theories, and the logic/reasoning behind those theories. THe student should be able to form his/her own conclusion from that. My biggest issue in college was that nearly every professor assumed that every theory was unalterable fact. It's called a theory for a reason.

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) Olbermann is entertaining in the same way I assume O'Reilly is entertaining to some on the right. With Maddow, at least I sometimes feel like I learned something. Except that Olbermann doesn't even pretend to be a journalist, and he's downright libelous/slanderous in his comments. The Scott Brown rant was pathetic.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) I might be in the minority but I'm actually hating the whole alternate storyline thing Hate is a strong word, but I am getting bored with it. It's too slow, there's not enough "gasp!" moments, and there's still zero clue as to how it's connected with the main story. I thought last nights episode was an A+ for the main story line, and a C for the sideways storyline.

OSU is basically Duke from the last decade. Nice guards and wings that can shoot it, but little to no inside depth and therefore they'll lose once the shots stop going in. My money is on MSU because they can run with anyone. If the shots aren't falling their rebounding/transition game will keep them close.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 08:08 AM) That sucks, was hoping this would finally be their year. If Coble doesnt miss the whole year, I bet they probably got those couple extra wins they need right now. I think Carmody's BTCOTY award just flew out the window, although who knows, maybe they can make a run in the tourney. Comes down to Painter, Ryan, Weber and Matta I think, in that order (as of now). If Illinois can somehow win on Sunday, Weber (and Illinois') stock jumps dramatically.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) It's unfortunate that America is being subjected to this UNC-Duke game. What a hideous display of basketball. what are you talking about baby! it's the ACC! North Carolina! The Dukies! It's the epicenter of basketball! It doesn't get any better than this baby!! Ohhhhhh! (that was an UGLY game. I dunno how UNC has fallin that much given the amount of talent on that team. And Duke is going to get killed once they play a team that actually makes them work on both ends of the floor)

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) I wrote accurately why the republicans suck. The dems may be inept, but at least they TRY to govern. They are TRYING to address a huge problem in health care. They are TRYING to address a huge environmental problem. They are TRYING to solve a 2 war problem. The republicans are just masturbating to it. I really hope you're joking about them trying. This Congress, with a majority, and a President, hasn't done JACK s*** in THREE plus years. How are they TRYING to govern right now? They should have been able to pass ANYTHING they wanted WITHOUT OPPOSITION until 2 weeks ago. They went through TWO election cycles where they CREAMED the Repubs because the country wanted CHANGE. But they didn't. Any why not? Because they don't give a f*** all about any one of us. They want votes. They want reelection. They want a nice ass pension so they can retire next to a bridge they built in their district. I don't want to bash any specific party, because they both suck big donkey balls (for lack of a better phrase), and if you can't see that, then there's no helping you. The entire system is a failure right now because no one governs for anyone but the people that paid for the fancy plate at campaign dinners. And this squabble right now is EXACTLY what both parties want. Because then we have no choice but to choose between a douche and a turd sandwich.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Keep the Dem bashing to the other thread. it's not bashing! just an observation i find humorous. and it doesn't have to be a full filibuster, it could just be a huge segment of the dem party that decides on principal not to go along with something for political gain

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) Why should they? It's working. Unless something changes, by shutting down the government and making sure nothing changes, they're going to make serious gains this fall. I love that when the Repubs do this it's evil, but when liberals do it it's standing up for what they believe in...

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 08:29 AM) I wish they'd just kill Kate. I didn't care about the love triangle in season 3 and I really don't care now. So much for answers. I'm still convinced the only way this makes sense in the end is if the series finale is a 3 hour special with the creators and a room full of white boards. Agreed. Also, they have these episodes EVERY season. They're called filler. Enough to move some pieces along, but really they can't just give you 15 hours of straight action. Pretty meh, but it was entertaining to see some of the other secondary characters and how they fit in to the sideways world (Ethan and the professor who gets blown up). Also cool to see Claire there at the end. And suprisingly Jack wasn't too annoying. I sorta liked his plan to take the pill. My theory after this one is that Jacob and the other guy (the monster) are essentially building up teams for a final battle - good v evil, believers v doubters. Looks like next week "Locke" is going to convince Sawyer to do something along the coast which is probably going to kill him (I dunno how the fall from cliffs above rocks would go any other way). Problem is they said Claire and now Sayid were evil too. Doesn't seem to make much sense really. How is Claire an evil one?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) West Virginia has also lost at home to Syracuse and doesn't have near the home court advantage as Wisconsin does. Besides Weber the Big 10 is simply not capable of winning at Wisconsin. 50% of Bo's losses at home belong to Weber. f*** the idiots who think he can't coach (not necessarily anyone here but they are out there)
