The New Catholic Church Scandal
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Who are you? Vic Mackey? I never watched the Shield. Just because he dispenses justice as he sees fit, despite the law?

The New Catholic Church Scandal
I've said it before, I'll say it again, people that f*** with kids like this should be castrated, without drugs, forced to sit through the pain, then shot in the face. Priest or no priest.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 07:49 AM) Disagree. These days, they'd go down into their basement and spend their time posting crazy rants about how right they are on the internets, on some message board or something somewhere. Wait a minute...

LOST!!!!
I figured there's gotta be some tie-in with the "electro magentic energy" there. Otherwise that whole angle of the series is totally lost and irrelevant.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I am thinking Hurley will be the one to take Jacob's place..... He isn't really manipulative though, which is kinda Jacob's thing. That's why I think it's Sawyer.

GOP refuses to work past 2pm
I don't really condone the behavior, and if/when these guys/gals get caught they should be punished. They clearly went over the line with death threats and whatnot. That said, the positive of this is that people are actually doing something against what they don't like. I'm happy to see that people in this country still care enough to make some noise. A little French in us in that sense. As Jefferson always said, we need a little revolution every once and a while.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Shifting goalposts. How exactly? My argument was that if this happened to a liberal talking head it would get more publicity. You countered with an example of the opposite. I'm distinguishing the two. How is a guy who allegedly funds a terrorist group and is held out of the country (by its government) the same as a blow hard who gets denied the opportunity to speak because she makes offensive comments? If you have a more comparable example, give it. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) strawman/ hasty generalization or a joke

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) I think Coulter had a right to speak there, but people have a right to protest her too. Totally agree. I don't think the students did anything wrong. Sounds like they were somewhat reasonable (no arrests). But clearly the school didn't want to/failed to provide proper measures given the heated atmosphere they created.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Hey remember when the conservative government in Canada blocked a liberal British politician from coming? Yeah, probably not, because there wasn't some huge upraor. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/ma...y-banned-canada Ann Coulter is a troll irl. I don't know why anyone gives enough credence to her remarks as to be offended by them. So someone who funds terrorist organizations and is deemd a national security threat (real or not) is somehow equal to a person who, at best, makes bad jokes and is pretty insensitive to groups she doesn't like? I thought liberals were all about freedom of ideas/expression? I guess just ideas that they agree with?

LOST!!!!
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Last night furthered my belief that Jacob is either the devil or a representative for the devil and Smokey is God or a representative of God. I sometimes think this too, but then the whole situation wouldn't make much sense to me. If Jacob is the devil, what's his end game? He's been tricked and killed (though I think he knew it would eventually happen). His "candidates" are flawed people, but not really evil, unlike the MIB's team. I think that's an intentional misdirection of the writers.

NIT
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Expansion is eventually coming. It will kill the NIT and do a great deal of damage to the NCAA Tournament long term IMO, so I don't understand why they are doing it. It might make money in the very short term, but in the long run, it will most certainly not. Why not just do the NIT BEFORE the tournament starts. Get rid of the stupid play-in game (which is a joke really), add a tournament which'll draw a huge audience from the bubble teams (as well as teams that are already in the tournament just to see where they'd land), and be done with it. An extra 30 something teams would be crazy. That's WAY too many. I like the idea of having the NIT determine the last 4 in the field of 64.

The Republican Thread
I read this morning that Ann Coulter's appearance at the University of Ottawa had to be shut down for security reasons. I'm not really a fan of talking heads like her, but I do find it pretty funny that there's not more of an uproar about this type of thing. Imagine if Michael Moore was in the same situation. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...Y-kQnAD9EKVOKG1 And it's Canada, I know, and they have their own version of freedom of speech, but it's pretty ironic that a protest got so out of hand over a woman speaking her mind about...yep, free speech (or lack thereof).

I thought he basically decided that everything Jacob had told him was a lie and that the MIB was the one telling the truth. That is, until Hurley and Isabella showed up.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) No I don't. Take bulls*** statements to the republican thread please, where they belong. Didn't think my statement warranted this, but whatever. Your posts seem to indicate that you believe any slight health ailment deserves/warrants a trip to the doctor, lest it become something serious. I think there is a philosophical difference there from my own, which I pointed out. Good to be reminded that only Republicans can be dicks though, thanks. It’s such a shocker too that the Filibuster portion of this site only has about 10-12 active members (mainly conservative hating folk). Anyone else can't get a word in without a crap response.

NIT
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) I wonder if Weber would ever go to a lineup of McCamey, Richardson, Paul, Richmond, and Davis at times just to increase pace of games and cause matchup problems I think it'll be the same starting 5 as this year, with Richmond being the first guy off the bench. He can play the 1-4 really, so he can spell a guard or forward depending on the situation. I wonder what happens to guys like Griffey and Cole. Are they now lost to the bottom of the bench, or is he going to play 9-10 guys a game?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) Blue Cross/Blue Shield also has the lowest administrative costs from every measurement I've read. There is more than one company. vandy, let me get this right. You would rather pay 750 dollars a year than pay hundreds more to get an actual product in return? And so you will go to the doctors office uninsured after years of (likely) putting off the costs and not taking your symptoms seriously because you'd have to pay out of pocket for the health care costs, and now pay for all the diagnosis equipment they'd need to find out it's cancer, and now, instead of the months or years you could have used to fight the cancer early you waited until it was noticeably affecting you. But now you can jump in easier to get insurance! And you saved a few hundred bucks! You realize cancer kills right? And it's not something you want to play chicken with? You and I have completely different views on the role of health care. You assume that whatever hospitals/doctors/drug ads tell you, that you have a problem that can be easily fixed with treatment. I view it the opposite way. Ignoring the obvious benefits of preventative treatment for serious diseases, this country is over medicated and over treated for a variety of things that 100 years ago would have been ignored because it was part of being a human. Feeling blue today, take a pill! Want to lose weight, take a pill! Have a restless leg, take a pill! Have a little soreness and ache, take a pill! As a litigation attorney I review thousands of pages of medical records a month. It's astounding how much money is wasted by people going to their doctor (or worse, the ER) for normal, every day things. It's an insane amount of wasted money.

Can this story die already? I want to read stories about the team, not the coach's son being a brat. And props to Cowley for his award winning reporting on TwitterGate. Ugh. So tired of it.

NIT
I really hope the addition of Richmond, Head, Leonard and Bertrand bring an attitude adjustment to this team. Richmond especially since he'll probably get the majority of bench time (if not starting time). That's the one aspect this team is missing. They can shoot, they can play decent enough defense, but they lack the killer instinct. They were up on so many teams this year but let them get back in the game.
