I think so far the early season is pretty typical. There's so much hype with some of these teams we expect them to be perfect in order to justify the lofty rankings. OSU looked pretty flat most of the night. Lots of standing around. I wasn't too impressed with UNC either. But I'm sure all that will change by the end of the year. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) You mean like Iowa State at Drake last night? Or our games at UNI and Iowa next year? is ISU a major? Ohhhhhh! Snap. I mean CLEARLY, you're not major like the other ISU.... Edit: pssh, i'm stupid. that was probably the joke you were making. lol, sorry. -
I'm interested to know how AC II is. I liked the first one, but it got pretty boring and repetitive after a while. The reviews seem to indicate that problem has been addressed this time around.

This "Weber is afraid of the MVC" talk is nonsense. When was the last time a major school went on the road to a mid-major? It RARELY happens, not because those teams are afraid, but because of the money involved. Why on earth would you play a game that will gain you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, on any level, when you can play an NIU or SIUE, or Wofford, or whatever at home, sell out, and make bank. And this mid-major woe is me crap is getting old. Guess what, if you're a mid-major and you want to be taken seriously, win your conference, make the tournament, and make some noise. You do that and you get invited to the pre-season tourneys and the occasional neutral site game that'll get you more attention. There's a reason that 7-8 years ago SIU was a great mid major program (thanks to Weber). There's a reason teams like Butler, Gonzaga, etc are rated. They win and they win consistently. So, until you get screwed ala the non-bcs schools in football, shut it. /end rant -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) I'm just trying to show you guys the talent level isn't as lopsided as you think, and you all think that ISU would lose no matter what if they played Illinois when it's not the case. Like I said earlier Illinois probably wins 75% of the time because they are a better team there is not denying that. But it's not 99% of the time like a lot of you guys think. Well never know though because Bruce Weber refuses to play in state teams at their place(Because he unlike you guys realizes that ISU upsetting them in normal and SIU upsetting them in Carbondale is not that far fetched), and Tim Jankovich refuses to play any power conference team @ their court without a return game. And we're just trying to show you that there's a HUGE disparity in talent level there which you apparently just want to ignore. Do you really believe that ISU would win 1 out of every 4 games played? That's ludicrous. And he refuses to schedule those teams for two reasons (neither of which involve a fear of losing): (1) there's ZERO incentive to playing ISU or SIU. None. They win and it gives them nothing, but if they lose, it's a big negative mark on their ranking at the end of the year; (2) More importantly, with the pre season tourneys, the big/ten challenge, etc, they have very few, if any, open games available, and they want to fill those games at home so they can make some $$. Going to ISU or SIU COSTS them money. Here's an article that just came out today about Webers thoughts on this topic: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/...ame-vs-siu.html -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) ITS MICHIGAN WEEK!!! http://thebiglead.com/?p=28563#more-28563 You stay classy Rich Rod! Seriously though, I refuse to believe that a team that Lloyd Carr built and recruited, and who soundly defeated Florida before Florida became the team that can do everything including finding a cure of cancer, is all of a sudden devoid of any talent. Were they on an elite leve? No, probably not. But they certainly were not a team that for 2 years now has been atrocious (and this coming from a guy that has to watch and root for f'n Illinois, who soundly beat them). You know what happened? The idiot from WV decided to throw the winningest program in history upside down in order to play HIS style of football (which I maintain is on its way out and by the time he gets "his" guys in there, they'll be average at best anyway) and in the process pissed of a bunch of GOOD players who left the program and/or had no interest in joining the program. Has there been a spread offense/wildcat team that's been succesful against teams not named western michigan, central michigan, or whatever other no-named team that Michigan plays each year? Is that crap going to work against the likes of PSU, OSU, Wisky, etc for the long term? (answer: no). -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) San Fran isn't a garbage team. They have a shot at the playoffs. They're a team on the rise. Cutler, is not everything Bears fans wanted him to be, therefore hyped him up to be. He's Jay Cutler. He still is a franchise QB though. He just has no offensive line, he has no dominant type of receiver, the running game has been terrible this year, and last, but definitely not least, his offensive coordinator is a joke. Hey I agree (except for the San Fran comment. They're average at best, but I'd argue they're not a good football team). I'll I'm saying is this idea that he's fine and everyone else is the problem isn't accurate. He might have crap around him, but he's certainly playing on their level more often than not. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) Why don't you look at the picks he's thrown while leading games and not get too focused ont he ones he's thrown when the team is down 14 points or more. Most of Cutler's picks in Denver came at times where he was chasing double digit deficits thanks to the defenses. Put him on a solid team with a solid defense and my goodness. Lol, why? You take away the TD's he threw against s***ty teams. I think at the end of the day all this averages itself out. He pads his stats against crappy teams and has worse stats against good teams...except last night, when he had 5 picks against a crappy team, or week 1, when he had 4 picks against an average GB team, or (I can go on...) -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) If you can't see the difference between Cutler and Grossman's situation, then frankly I can't help you, nor do I have any interest in trying to do so. Lol, likewise. I guess "stats" and "history" don't mean much. Look, at the end of the day he's physically a better QB. He's taller, he's more agile, he's got a better arm, he's more accurate, blah blah. But I dunno how you can discount the similarities - both make awful decisions (generally at the worst possible times) and they have great games followed by horrible games. The view people have on this board that he's only playing this way because the offense (and team) is awful is just a fantasy. It's not based on fact. Even when he's had great weapons around him he still makes really bad decisions and turns the ball over a lot. He needs a good coach to rid him of those problems. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) Not when you throw for the TD's he does. I put everything in perspective and his TD to Turnover ratio ain't bad historically. 9, 20, 25, 14. The number of TD's he's thrown. 68 TD's to 54 Int's. I'd hardly call that ratio "good." http://www.pro-football-reference.com/lead...perc_career.htm (if you have trouble finding him, he's #68) And what's this nonsense about him having to "force" it? They were down, at most, 4 pts all of last night. It's not like he had to get a TD every time he got the f'n ball. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Look at Jay's history, he is not a turnover prone QB. He's a gunslinger that turns it over, but prior to the last 12 or so weeks, he really didn't turn the ball over a whole ton. The problem is, when your are asked to throw 50 times and teams can seat back and wait and still get to the QB you are going to end up throwing a lot more picks (its the nature of the biz). Give him even decent offensive talent and he might just win an MVP. Thats how f***ing good Cutler is. Are you kidding? 2006 - 5 games, 5 ints 2007 - 16 games, 14 int 2008 - 16 games, 18 int 2009 - 9 games, 17 int I'd consider more than an int per game average a "turnover prone" QB. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) Good god, when does Minny play a real team? When does any team play anyone good in the first week or two? I think Seth Davis of SI had this same complaint, why isn't there a huge blockbuster set of games to open the season? You have a "preseason" just like in baseball, why do you need 4-5 games of Div II or really awful Div I games before those tournaments start (which less face it, at best there's 2-3 of those that have games with good teams going head to head - coaches v cancer, maui [clearly the best] and one more I can't remember the name of). I dunno, a minor complaint since college BB is the best sport of them all. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) I have to agree with a lot of what is being said regarding no one blaming Cutler here. It's a defense-mechanism for all the excitement and praise we have been throwing upon him since the trade was made. We want to feel justified in our excitement and in saying that in fact we do, finally, have a franchise quarterback. Being out in Vegas, while the Bears are a "public" team, many people have seen them primarily in the National games that have been broadcasted on Sunday Night Football and now on Thursday night. And as Fathom pointed out, those are easily Cutler's worse 4 games of the season. The problem is, we have only played 9 games now, and he has already played poorly in 4 of them. I sat in a bar with mostly Niners fans and to hear them talk about how badly Cutler sucks is the same frustration to me as you guys hearing the idiots calling in on sports radio. He clearly doesn't suck. And honestly, as much as you want to dissect the INT's that were his fault, and those that were not, there is a very real cumulative effect going on here, as some have mentioned. The guy realizes the situation he is in, probably even secretly despises Ron Turner, and feels like he has to make every throw there is. This is also something he has been dealing with for several years now because he hasn't had a defense worth a s*** for most of his time in the NFL. Unfortunately, he does need to keep his chin up and settle down. I thought he did a good job of that in the Browns game, however, he came out of that game feeling as sore as he has ever felt (his own words). The guy shouldn't have to eat the ball all the time, because honestly, he'd be dead if he did that. Half the issue with trying to make every throw is to make something happen, the other half is to save his own life. Personally, I find it difficult to blame the guy, even though some of the problems do fall upon his decision making. As some have said, he is far down the list of problems, but at the same time, he shouldn't be immune to criticism. I just hope there is something that can be done, and quickly, otherwise finally having ourselves a good qb will all be for nothing... This "excuse" would make sense if Cutler didn't have a history of throwing horrible INT's. But the fact of the matter is he does, even when he had arguably 2 pro-bowl WR's, a good O-line and a decent running game. The only thing he didn't have in Denver was a decent defense. He's sucked the majority of this year. End of story. It's inexcusable. And he's going to get a pass because everyone is going to blame Lovie and Ron Turner first (which is fine, they all need to go). I don't think there's any doubt that he's a better QB than Orton, at least physically, but mentally how can anyone say he's different than Sexy Rexy thus far? The hope is Cutler (and Rex in the past) would become Favre-esque - the gun slinger who is always going to try to force it and make some bad decisions, but who at the end of the day is above average and will win you games that you otherwise wouldn't be able to win with a game-managing QB. I think the jury is still out on that. But if the Bears have any brains, they'd find the best QB coach money can buy and bring him in to coach this guy up. Otherwise we just locked ourselves into 4 more years of a more physically talented Grossman. -

Execution with me pulling the switch and/or pulling the trigger. I find people that think it's wrong and/or somehow barbaric fascinating (a lot of my friends are in the group, there argument is a civilized society shoudln't stoop to the level of a criminal).
