Looks like the EPA also recently messed with the fuel efficiency ratings, screwing some people out of the program: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-...Clunkers-Deals/ How can the EPA change these numbers years later? That makes no sense.

Alternative stimulus: 1/2 the money to new energy initiatives/building projects, 1/2 the money in real paychecks back to the american people (making under say 400k a household) with the condition that they have to spend it on real products (housing, appliances, cars, etc) that require raw goods, manufacturing, etc, or real services (home improvement, law, accounting, whatever). Inflation is a problem, but could be addressed by the Fed over certain intervals of time.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) With the exception of making areas safer for people. Sorry, a rattlesnake that takes up residence near my house will die. Well right, but that's not killing just to kill. That's killing for protection.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) LOL at the s*** we go through on a daily basis. You need to go to the softball game so I can have a beer with you. How much water could be saved in the world without drinking beer? And think of all the hops and their... I'm only half kidding btw. To me it's a ridiculous conclusion to say eating meat is wrong, when our physical make up and history don't agree. I DO agree that wasteful hunting (killing for the sake of killing) is wrong, but I don't think that happens very often. Every hunter I know gets excited about the X lbs of meat they'll get out of their trip.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Kind of late to the party on this one. Actually people's eating of meat does affect me, in a negative way. It's not a case of "I eat meat and you don't need to worry about it". Most of the meat eaten today comes from factory farms. These have severe effects on me and the rest of the world. Just look to the negative effects it has on the environment and things like Asian Bird Flu and Swine Flu. Your fields and forests get in the way of my hunting. So they cancel each other out.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Gregg Doyel says you are not a man I think that's a compliment. Gregg Doyel is the biggest idiot in the world.

IMO guys like this, who take it a few times as a recovery mechanism, and then ultimately stop, are not cheaters. It would have been different if he had taken it for 6 years and was able to become an all-start caliber player because of it. And for those who think its a big deal, tell me how HGH is any different than having a personal trainer or the other drugs athletes these days use on a daily basis to stay healthy? I commend the guy for manning up and explaining why he did it. I think it's a reasonable excuse. It wasn't smart, it wasn't right, but as someone else said i think the majority of us would do the same.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) But, would you rather see Erin Andrews just walking around topless or a porno chick getting ____ed by 3 or 4 ____s while ____ing her ____ with a ____? Lol, I love the options available there.

Meh. Not worth the hype. They should have denied it was her and moved on, especially since it's been around for 4 months already. Instead they created a firestorm (intentional?). I've never understood the fascination with her. She's hot, no denying that, but in 5 seconds I can find 500 hotter women doing very nasty things. Is it her "realness" versus the porno plastic look that people like?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) I have had an iPhone (edge), and iPhone 3g, and now I have an iPhone 3GS -- my previous models became hand me downs to my wife. The following apps are the apps that I consider "best in class", and if an app listed costs $ while there are free alternatives, I've tried all the free alternatives before I decided which was better. News Apps: AP Mobile (FREE) USA Today (FREE) WeatherBug Elite (Maps in motion, audio/video forecasts, wind speed, etc.) (.99cents) Entertainment Apps: Now Playing (Movie Show times, Locations, Reviews, Etc.) (FREE) ESPN SportsCenter (FREE) Facebook (FREE) AOL Radio (Live broadcast of Local/Domestic radio stations) (FREE) Pandora (Internet Radio) (FREE) Security Apps: 1Password (I'm a MAC user so I pay for the desktop version which synchs to my iPhone, this is a password encryption program) (FREE for iPhone edition) Misc Apps: 9-Toolbox (Contains a Level, Currency Converter, Tip Calculator, Units of Measurement Converter, etc. (FREE) AIM (FREE) Rooms (IRC Chat) (This was like .99cents, but it may cost a few dollars these days.) Flashlight (Why the hell not?!) (FREE) Remote (Remote control iTunes from your phone) (FREE) Shazam (Ever wonder what that song was?! Hold the phone to the speaker and this app will tell you it's name, album, etc.) (FREE) Games: Some of these may be slightly cheaper or more expensive at this time, as the prices change due to sales, etc. Flick Fishing ($4.99) Texas Hold'Em ($4.99) Paper Toss (FREE) PinBall Dreams ($4.99) PegJump (FREE) Peggle ($4.99) MLB Slugger ($4.99) StoneLoops ($2.99) As for using it, I've used just about every cellular phone in existance (I'm a big cell phone nut), and I think the iPhone is again, the best in it's class. I also have a BlackBerry for work, and wish I could just use my iPhone instead. I've had multiple palm devices, multiple winmo devices, and I feel the iPhone is superior. I'm not an Apple loyalist, either...as I have 2 windows vista laptops (dell), 1 windows xp laptop (lenovo) and my iMac, so please -- don't go there. Awesome. I'll be downloading most, if not all of these. I grabbed the MLB app. Can't wait to hear Farmer and DJ while at work. So far I'm very pleased. The voice command feature works really well and the camera/video is a lot better than the 3g (which my fiance has). Obviously it's not a substitute for a digital camera, but it's still nice when you want to take a random picture. Now ATT just needs to turn on mms for the iphone.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) I have the last gen and love it, but man do I want one that can do video and cut/paste. Only advice on apps is to take time to look through all the free ones before you start spending wads of money. There are some brilliant free apps and most games have free demos that you can usually play until you get bored and save your money. You can't get video, but the cut/paste should be included in the 3.0 update. Have you done that yet?

So my Iphone 3gs is due to arrive today. It's my first introduction into the Iphone world. Does anyone else here have one, and if so, what are some of the apps I should get for it? And your thoughts on using it?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) The law being that the city had the right to throw out the results because they didn't like it, and the Supreme Court said no they didn't (overriding the precedent in the federal district). In all honesty it's incredibly easy to predict who is voting for what when certain issues come up, as of right now only Kennedy is the one that's hard to predict sometimes. Well I guess in that sense it is, but then every decision by the Supreme Court is judicial activism (overturning/affirming precedent). I would argue though that they WERE following the precedent of previous Supreme Court decisions regarding discrimination.
-
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) I don't think there is anything wrong with responsible judicial activism. And this is responsible judicial activism, in my opinion. But this is absolutely a case of the Supreme Court creating policy instead of enforcing laws. And that's not necessarily always a bad thing either. I missed the boat a little on this thread, but how was this decision judicial activism? They refused to create a higher standard on an already existing law. They told the city you created a neutral test, you got the results, you didn't like the results because it didn't have enough minorities, so based on that (race) you decided to throw out the results and not hire a certain race of people. To me it would have been judicial activism to extend the law to allow such a practice in the name of equality (i.e., it's cool to discriminate against whites/hispanics so long as you have a reasonable belief that you're discriminating against blacks)

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) I think you're wrong. If a moderate was going to win, they would have won by now. The pro-life, anti-global warming part needs to stay that way (although personally I wish the pro-life part would go away...) because real conservative values would dictate that. The gay marriage thing I've been quite clear on it, and most conservatives agree with my stance that it's a state's rights issue (and so is abortion when it comes right down to it). Moderates candidly don't stand for anything. There's just not a Reagan type out there, but if there were, they'd get a lot of traction in this environment of Barackus the Great. There's no way anyone associated with the "R," even a moderate, was going to win this election against Obama. The country had pissed on Bush and Republicans for the previous 6-7 years (some deserved, most not), and the country was going into the tank. People wanted to try something entirely different. They bought into the message of change. It remains to be seen if that change is making us any better. Being anti-global warming makes no sense. There's nothing conservative about not backing the fight against crapping in our own water supply. Pro-life/pro-choice issue makes no sense, and as I've repeatedly stated, its the most overrated issue in the history of politics. There's nothing "conservative" about that issue either, unless "conservative" is attached to religious beliefs, which it's not. Ditto with the gay marriage issue.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) I think you have missed the reality here - a moderate is not needed for the primaries, they are needed for the general election. And in that, I think its right on, that is what the Republicans need in order to win in the generals. The party has just moved too far off center. I also think your thought that moderates don't stand for anything is off base - moderates are not usually in the middle on everything, they have views on both sides that net out to moderation. And those folks make up a huge chunk of the population. They stand for lots of things, and they are the key to winning close elections. Bingo.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) No thank you. So what's wrong with Palin? I know what my thoughts are, but I'd like to know yours. I think her entire persona stupifies the party and its base, making her Bush II. I'm tired of the religious extremists running the party on a platform of pro-life, anti-global warming, anti gay marriage (who cares? seriously? they'll be damned for an eternity of hell if that's how it's supposed to be) and anti-raising taxes (in a time when it's probably necessary). It's too bad McCain ran into the Obamachrist. I think he's the type of conservative (moderate) we, the party, needed.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Many people will say its way too early to speculate about the 2012 GOP Primary because of how low Obama polled about the same time before their primaries. However, it is important to remember that the rule for winning the GOP nomination is that the winner was apart of an earlier Pres. campaign or ran for Pres. unsuccessfully (Reagan, Bush, McCain, Dole, Nixon). So, that means the nominee will be either Romney, Palin or Huckabee. Will 2012 be the exception to several decades of nomination history? Palin enjoys the backing of 71% of Rep. voters who would vote for her if she ran in 2012 (as of Monday). Romney is and has not been anywhwere near as popular among prospective GOP Primary voters as Palin, and Huckabee is essentially a poor man's Palin in terms of the demographics of their supporters. As a long time conservative, I hope she gets the nomination, and I hope she gets crushed so that this ridiculous segment of the party dies away.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) She doesnt work. She never has. Remember all those days she billed the state for working from home? She had a 15% attendance record as Gov... Not to justify this, but attendance and public service positions aren't exactly the greatest of partners. Our state is currently operating without a budget, and yet the assembly is out of session for 2 weeks. How much sense does that make?

lol, what the heck is that?

lol, "we want to honor you for your influential work and music, which is a great model for young children. Especially the part where you completely degrade Halley Berry and talk about how she should be on her knees for you."

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) You could also tell them about the GTA bug and get it free, like Jenks and I did. BearSox I'm on your side here. I get the argument that other companies don't do the same thing, but the fact is they (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) started this as a business practice, so now the consumer can complain about it. My ps3's graphics card went out and they wouldn't replace it. Of all things, the graphics card has to be the most important hardware piece that I couldn't possibly screw up. Luckily I used the GTA loophole and got it replaced for free. So far the refurbed model works just as well. So i'm happy. But it does stink that for more hardward related problems (that you have no control over) they wouldn't do something for you. Did you talk with a supervisor? Sometimes that helps, especially if you explain you're a longtime Sony customer that's quickly changing to Microsoft.

Congress had a moment of silence for Michael Jackson. Congress had a friggin moment of silence for a pederass. Only in America. That is all. Edit: should add a link: Ridiculous.
