  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) Did Ozzie at least apologize for his statements Sunday? Considering the answer to what was done was D.) None of the above, he really looks like a rambling fool right now. I suppose if the fans boo if they score 2 runs tonight he will be all over them in the post game. He has already stated if anyone thinks the Sox can win with this offense they are full of s***. exactly so why should anyone go to see them if the manager doesn't think we will win, why should we invest? This guy is a real piece of work. The sox org from top to bottom is the laughing stock of the league.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) I know that was probably sarcasm, but there's no way JR/KW would pony up $22 million for 1 year for Barry, especially not at this time with all the charges. Yea well I am sure it won't take that kind of money, but point taken that they wouldn't sign him.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Isn't it sad that a .250 hitter would be an upgrade over our current CF? Good lord. its not just the hitting but the threat of speed. he could help change the dynamic of the top of the order. its just a bulls*** comment on my part anyway. No biggie.
  4. how about thome for coco crisp. Red sox need a DH and we could use crisp. I'm just saying.
  5. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) No, the constant starting of threads without first reading all the other ones on similar topics. Plus the huge drama announcement about becoming a Nationals fan because Buehrle was getting traded. when was buehrle getting traded to the nationals? The nationals?
  6. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) I believe you should read more and start threads less. As others have said and has been posted on this site mulitple times in the past few days, Fields is hurting, has been out of the lineup for 4-5 games in a row, is hitting a less than robust .246 in AAA and is striking out a ton. How are those Nationals doing? LOL, was it the hat backwards that got to you?
  7. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) More good info, thanks again. Hah ... Walker is probably as sick of the whole situation as many of the fans are of his presence. Would not shock me if he steps down and is reassigned. Now that would bail everyone out wouldn't it?!
  8. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) oh and on the walker situation. He didnt say his take on it, just he thinks he will be gone soon thanks I am not trying to get you riled up, I appreciate your insight and post.
  9. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) You are riled up my friend, I think you took the Viagra by mistake. actually I am not, I think it just came out wrong, I just think if I talked to somebody I would just check to see if its ok to post on the internet.Maybe its no big deal. I am glad he posted it, just thought with all thats going on here the past week, maybe we should use more discretion?
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) I don't think any changes will occur, except perhaps line-up changes by Ozzie. KW making a trade or firing a coach will make him look like Ozzie's lackey. Not doing anything will make him look like Ozzie's boss, something he made perfectly clear he was in his comments about Ozzie's comments. ahh nice call, thats why he will wait unitl wensday!
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) You wouldnt move Contreras for the right piece? He keeps going like this, he'll have some serious value at deadline. And the youth movement would remain intact. And the guy leaving is turning 50 soon. I would too for the right person.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) it's hard to say who's more irrational: soxtalk or ozzie guillen. histerical.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) I would love to get Kemp in return for Uribe. stop it , it would take cabrera not uribe.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) Does anyone really think this team can win if Thome and PK struggle all season? no.. isn't that the point fo this thread
  15. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) That's misstated. It's not that they didn't want him, they didn't want to give him 5 years. They offered 4 and wouldn't budge. thats true and I heard rowand on an interview state that they couldn't agree on the years. i wouldn't give rowand 5 years either but i would say he would be a great addition. it doesn't matter anyway, he isn't here. who cares.
  16. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) Was wondering when you'd get to that. Don't take the viagra by mistake though, you know what I'm sayin'. You see Ozzie might be just crazy to do something like this. He went loco yesterday. I wish I knew spanish because ozzie's kid had that show on the score yesterday night and I am certain this stuff was talked about for an hour. i would love a transcript in english from that show.
  17. To get a good laugh and maybe loosen up the team, and do the utter ridiculous, ozzie should just put 9 guys names in the hat and pick them out one at a time to create a new batting order for one game. I know it sounds nuts , and it is, but it might just loosen the damn team up. if that means thome leading off then so be it. I will go take my pills now.
  18. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) Exactly, and that's the point. While I agree a new voice is needed somewhere, what's the old saying, be careful what you wish for? I have no special affinity for Greg Walker but the next guy could be worse. Before anyone says that's not possible, there could be guys who actually regress. A hitting coach takes the blame when proven hitters with a track record go bad, and that's fair. Konerko, Thome, Swisher and a few more are all doing poorly. What about guys like Quentin and Alexei Ramirez, who had basically no major league track record but are now doing rather well? It goes both ways, it always has and it always will. Now I don't care one way or the other if Greg Walker gets launched. However, I do care about some of these veterans exhibiting the same tendancies year after year. I am convinced the blame lies there but again, if firing the hitting coach will help, great, I'm all for it. Thursday should see the beginning of a change in direction. More pure hitters, less power plodders. It looks like they will take an impact bat in the draft and it's about time. look I could care less about a hitting coach but it appears these guys do something, Jim edmonds was quoted today as giving props to his new hitting coach for his surge in hitting the last couple of games. thats what you want to hear, not that they are trying really hard over the last year and half and its just not clicking.
  19. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) The guy they hired out of the Pirates organization last winter, Jeff Mantos, has been observing the team the past few days. He is the organizational hitting guy I believe. thats great the pirates organization what a great org.
  20. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 08:09 AM) Agree and I have been saying the same thing. Nothing against Josh but let's face it, he's not doing well either. Also we do not know what the problem is the last four days. Clearly he's not healthy at the moment or there are other issues keeping him out of the lineup. After a night's sleep on this, the silver lining is the pitching. It's been good, very good actually. They are in this thing, right now Cleveland is a mess and people are calling for Wedge to get fired. Not a good atmosphere there, and Detroit has problems too. Minnesota is playing well but that's to be expected, they have less ups and downs. There are no impact bats in the minors at the moment and I took Williams' comments to mean there are no trades available either. So it's Walker or lineup changes. Since Ozzie has said time and time again Walker won't get fired, either he goes back on his word or the lineup gets changed. Popular, Steve Stone SPECULATED today on the score that they are keeping uribe around to play second because they maybe looking to deal cabrera. He said its his opinion only. That maybe, but this is not what Ozzie was talking about yesterday. Again Ozzie made the mistake of giving a date, he is not very bright. I am hoping it is Greg Walker, and lineup changes and a minor trade. They need a shakeup badly.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 05:55 AM) It wasnt like the Rays were tearing the cover off the ball. We lost to one of the best home teams in the league in extras, a walk off, and a 2-0 pitching duel. Its not like we just got blown out of Tampa. Yes Rock I get what your saying, but I do think our big money hitters have sucked all year not just this series. We could have won all three games just as easily as they could but our big time guys absolutley sucked. I think Ozzie like the fans are sick of the lack of execution. Its been going on for quite some time.
  22. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 05:49 AM) I'll bet that was fun plane ride home. In reality they can't/won't blow up a roster that is in 1st place no matter how bleak things are at the moment. Firing Walker is obviously the likely move. The quote that bothers me most in this whole thing is by Konerko. It seems like he's saying as long as we try,we should be left alone. It's not only about effort,it's about results.Hell, put me in the lineup and i'll try as hard as i can. That doesn't mean i can get it done. Swisher's an absolute mess,Konerko's hurt, and you can just see guys pressing when there are guys in scoring position. Caling up Fields and DL'ing Konerko may be the thing to do. Maybe Fields can inject some life into the lineup the way Jay Bruce has for Cincy. Another move i would strongly consider is just getting rid of Cabrera. I think his negative persona has had a very bad impact on this team. Cut your losses and move on. Every GM has made a mistake,or two, in the past. I would like just as much as playing Uribe at SS as i would OC. At least Uribe seems to be well liked and has a fun, postive attitude that the team needs. You could even play Ramirez at SS and trade for an energy guy, like Freel, and use Uribe as a platoon guy. Cincy needs a SS. I would do OC for Freel straight up. You could have a lineup of: Freel-2B Ramirez-SS Quentin-LF Dye-RF Thome-DH Fields(Konerko to DL)-1b AJ-C Crede-3B Swisher-CF Once Swisher starts hitting, and he will, you can move him up to the 2 hole if needed. You could also get rid of Ozuna and call Owens up. With Freel and Uribe, you would have enough vesatility that Ozuna is useless and Owens can spot start and steal a base when needed. Ozzie, did not travel with the team, he caught a flight to Miami to spend a day with the familia.
  23. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) Of course he is boxed in. If he could have pulled a deal today, he would have. He just better hope the team stays in 1st or at the very least afloat until a trade opportunity opens up. The guys who are struggling may turn it around somewhat but this offense as constructed will be prone to long dry spells. In the meantime the only weapon Guillen has is benching guys or firing Walker. Therefore it is likely he will bench 1-2 guys. Tuesday I see Crede on the bench for Ozuna and Konerko on the bench although Swisher is just as bad. The only name that's out there for the taking is Lofton but obviously been there, done that. popular, personally, I think they should bench guys and fire walker. i am not one of those who blames this on a hitting coach, but this is a year and a half slump. We do need something new to happen. Knowing JR they will make walker a roving hitting instructor or scout or something. The sox need a change, and Greg walkers way appears to not be working very well despite how hard he works. Its time.
  24. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) I totally agree with you, just hoping there are some teams that will bite. Well if you think you can win the division without him then trade him, i still say he is a leader for the team and will turn things around as the year goes on. We have an opportunity to stay in this thing longer because the Tigers and Indians are playing worse than we are right now. Trading away your best pitcher in the last several years is a good idea only if you think Broadway has the NADS to help us get in the playoffs now which i personally do not think he has.
