Im gonna chalk Tony Pena right up there with Javy Vazquez... someone with their stuff shouldn't suck so much.

QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:35 PM)I hope that Jake just strained something. Before this run of awesome starts he was experiencing soreness in his shoulder, right? It might not be his elbow.
It was his elbow, I'm 99.99999% sure of that.
-
Hopefully its something minor that just felt a lot more serious at the time... but I have a feeling Peavy won't be throwing another inning for us for a while.
I guess the one positive is we get to see what Daniel Hudson can do, but this blows. Peavy was showing what made him a Cy Young winner in the NL the past month or so, and he was really throwing great tonight.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:13 PM)Did he say he would only do it if he makes the team?
I don't know.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:09 PM)That's a play that Viciedo needs to make...needs to learn how to throw it over to first without winding up.
Yep, but he hasn't been nearly the defensive liability some feared he would be thus far.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:05 PM)Oh no...PK is considering the HR contest?
It doesn't even matter, I doubt he makes it with f***ing Youk and Swish. There just isn't anywhere near the excitement there was for 05 and Scotty or in 06 with punch AJ.
I think most of us fans don't even give a s*** anymore either, because we feel PK should have been there to begin with and we just all hate the Allstar Game as a whole.

fathom beat me to it, but what the hell was that by Alexei? How do you take a straight fastball like that right down the middle for strike 3? That was a pitch Alexei should have ripped.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:31 PM)But that's a huge concern for him at the major league level.
Yep, hopefully he breaks that habit.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:05 PM)Chase promised me he'd hit a HR for me today ...He's a man of his word!!
He should promise to hit a HR for you everyday.

wah, wah, wah.... shut up and play baseball.

Is Rios hurt or something? I can't stand watching Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay both in the same lineup.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:14 PM)Bosh fits best in this case because he has the most talent and can compliment somebody like Noah, who is a garbage scoring center and can get him offensive boards. Bosh is the best shooter of the 3.
David Lee is also a decent mid range shooter, but he's an effort guy, talent's not quite there.
Boozer can post up a bit and has a signature turnaround shot. He's not bad, just hurt too much.
So what you are saying is that David Lee would be a good option for Ozzie's White Sox?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:09 PM)Bosh > Boozer > Lee
I know that's the consensus, but why?
Also, from my point of view, if you can get Lebron, does it really matter a whole bunch who the PF (out of those 3) is with Rose, Lebron, and Noah?
-
Can someone tell me the differences between Lee, Boozer, and Bosh? Im no basketball expert, but looking at their stats, they were all very similar players this past year.
-
Solid start for Hudson, but Tillman was a lot better.
Hudson seems to be throwing a lot of pitches this season, leading to him only going 5 or 6 innings per outing... I wouldn't be surprised if he is trying to be too fine instead of just pitching.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:39 PM)Anyone see Tillman pitch in the majors this year? He looked awful, fastball was in the 90-91 mph range.
I saw a brief bit and he did not look like a top prospect at all. I believe I saw him in the futures game a year or two ago, and he didn't look impressive then either.
-
oh god, why do we have to be tortured with Andruw Jones starting??? Lets see if he can top his outing on saturday night where he looked like a fool and K'd his first two AB's, and then when he decides to make contact, ground into a DP.
Andruw Jones needs to be DFA!!!!!
-
b-b-b-b-b-b-but he was a 7th round draft pick! He must be good!
-
I remember hearing something like he broke 40+ bats in one season. That is insane.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 11:54 AM)If Viciedo is starting tonight he's going deep of Kazmir...
He better start. I'll be pissed if we see the 5th grader starting at 3B with the guy who forgot how to hit at 2B.
Give Beckham another day off, lets see what Lillibridge can do today. We gotta ride his hot streak, and he is seeing the ball well (even though he is still an idiot swinging for the fences).
-
Lillibridge's final AB last night was almost as bad as some of Beckham's. Why oh why does a guy who is like 160 pounds swinging from the heels?
Yeah, Lillibridge has had some solid hits, he's been seeing the ball well. But he still hasn't changed. He still wants to be a power guy, in a 5th graders body.

I have no problem with the "at least 1" rule as long as you come up with some set of requirements that a player has to be above to get a pick. If your team sucks so much that you don't have 1 player above said requirements, you then definitely don't deserve "at least 1."
However, it is a nice way to prevent the all-star game from getting completely overrun by the Yankees, Red Sox and whoevers team is defending world series champs.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 05:38 PM)Jeff Passan is on fire today. Reading his tweets; he's legitimately furious that Infante made the team and then this:
Infante could be the worst All-Star pick ever (Rios and Konerko get a mention)
Im so glad someone finally mentioned Rios and Konerko. It was sickening how not a single person has brought up Konerko on ESPN, but everyone single one of them is heart broken that Youkilis didn't make it.
He did get one thing wrong. Just as he complains about Infante being on the team, you can use all those arguments for why Strasburg doesn't deserve to be on the team. Strasburg has some of the best stuff in the major leagues and has been impressive, but he's only had 6 starts and been in the bigs for a month! He didn't earn a spot on the team, plain and simple, no argument can say he earned the right to be an all-star other than hype.
Rhodes and Meeks both make sense. Rhodes was needed because they need at least 1 lefty to face some of the lefties on the AL team, and Rhodes is arguably the best LOOGY in baseball right now.
Latos deserves a spot over Lincecum, Lincecum only hurts the NL squad with the way he's been pitching the past month+.

The sad thing is, for the most part, the fans voted pretty decent this year. It was the f***ing managers and players who f***ed up big time.

oh thank goodness!
Also, Alexei has got to start tagging players with the ball in his glove.
