    Agreed. I think you could argue the guy taking the hardest swings on the team other than Andruw right now is The Bridge, and he's raking and can do whatever he wants until he remembers he's bad and stops hitting, so it's fine.

    If you've seen some of my other posts, I even said Lillibridge is still trying to be a power hitter. But the hit he had last night to score 2 runs was a beautiful swing. Mark Kotsay or Alexei Ramirez would have broken their back from swinging so hard, while Lillibridge just simply served it right into right centerfield. Didn't try to do too much, just meet the ball and get a hit. And with 2 runners in scoring position and 2 outs, that's what you gotta do.

    You keep hitting on this, but its just not the case. Other than Jones, who always does that, the team has quite clearly been doing the opposite for some time now. In the middle of the run of wins, they went games on end with no home runs and a ton of singles. And no one other than Jones appears to be overswinging. I think perhaps you are stuck in 2009.

    Besides Andruw Jones, Alexei Ramirez has been swinging for the fences the past 2 years. Beckham has an uncontrolled swing right now and has no idea what he's doing most of the time. Kotsay has a tendency to swing for the fences in situations with ducks on the pond instead of just going for the base hit. Before his resurgence, Quentin was in a real bad habit of trying to hit everything for a HR.

    Just because the team doesn't hit many home runs lately doesn't mean the tendencies and habits aren't still there. In fact, these are tendencies and habits MANY major league players have, its not exclusive to our team.

    If it's any consolation, I only call him bridge because I'm afraid i'm going to spelle "Lillibridge" wrong every time I attempt to spell it.

    You can't even spell the word spell correctly... there is no hope for you :lol:

  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:31 AM)
    Was there really just a comparison to arguably the greatest right handed hitter of all time?

    I didn't see Roger Hornsby's name mentioned :D

  5. I didn't see the game, only the highlights, but that was a great swing Lillibridge put on that 2-1 pitch with 2 outs where he got that 2 run hit. Ducks on the pond, and instead of trying to crush a 500 ft. homer like most of the other hitters on the team would have done, he just tried to meet the ball and put it in play somewhere, and he did just that. Much props to Lillibridge.

  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:15 AM)
    I disagree. As I stated in the game thread, he seems to actually have a pretty good eye at the plate. I think the reason he does not walk much is because he makes contact with everything, and puts it into play. If you take a look at his at-bats recently, you will see he is actually taking some balls, but it's hard to take a walk when you are putting the ball in play all the time.

    If he made contact with everything, he wouldn't have struck out 50 some times in Charlotte.

    Viciedo is showing potential, but I'm not gonna bust a nut just yet. 1, this is his first time through the league, he will have to adjust once pitchers adjust to him. 2, his K:BB ratio in AAA was awful, he's gonna have to improve on that if he wants any chance of having any long term success in the MLB. Hopefully he will.

  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 04:42 PM)
    He should be able to come back 100% without lingering effects. It's a tendon re-attachment not a reconstruction. It's pretty straight forward. Just like with th Mitchell surgery, we'll know if it was a rupture from the bone or a mid substance tear when they give the length of rehab estimate. If they say 2-6 months it's a straight forward reattachment and there won't be any lingering problems. If they say up to 9 months then it's a different story.

    Ok thanks, hopefully he'll be able to come back and be as good as new for 2011.

  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 04:15 PM)
    I don't think Gordon's trying to do that. I think he's completely mentally f***ed right now.

    He's all discombobulated, no doubt. But he is still swinging wildly and trying to be a power hitter.

    I wish someone would just lock Beckham in a closest and make him watch continues clips of Michael Young hitting. Beckham needs to get it through his head he's not a HR power hitter in the bigs, he's a gap power hitter. The HR's will come, just like they do for Young, but Beckham needs to be smart and look to drive the ball, and right now he's a fool at bat. Its so frustrating.

  9. Yeah, it is possible for the HR derby to f*** with hitters heads, but I think its overrated. Was Hamilton's downfall in the 2nd half due to the HR derby, possibly part of it, but overall, he had an incredible first half through his first time through the league and a pace that he obviously wouldn't keep up. I think his lack of production in the 2nd half and the following year was more due to pitchers adjusting to him and him struggling to find a new approach that worked. Did the HR derby make him HR happy and f*** with his head, possibly, I wouldn't doubt it. But he also had a huge spotlight on him and what he did in the HR derby just put more pressure on him.

    As for PK, again, he's always been a very streaky hitter. I really don't think his struggles in the 2nd half of 02 came from the HR derby but rather him just being a streaky hitter, and him having an incredible 1st half that he just couldn't keep up.

    Overall, I think the majority of players can have fun and go do the HR derby without having it f*** with them in the head. And I bet the stats back it up.

    However, one thing I would like to change, instead of only allowing all-stars to do the HR derby, they should invite the hitters with the best power with HR swings to the derby. Russell Branyan, Mike Jacobs, Chris Davis, Justin Smoak, etc... It'd be fun to watch some of those guys in the HR Derby as they have a ton of power and swing like are in a HR derby all the time.

  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 04:12 PM)
    Sounds like this could have been avoided if they did an MRI after the KC start, but because the MRI a week before that came back clean, they decided not to do another one. At this point, hopefully he's fine for 2011. What pitchers have come back from this injury in the past?

    I just hope its nothing that will effect his mechanics. The worse thing that can happen is him trying to overcompensate with his arm, and then we are headed down a spiral slope.

    Hopefully everything turns out good. I know from a players standpoint, you want to come back ASAP, but it might not be a bad idea just to say wait till next year, and take every precaution to get him at a full 100% for next season. We have too much money invested in him, we gotta take every precaution possible.

  11. so how serious is this? Best case is out until September, but will it have lingering effects? Can he come back from this 100% with a good chance of not having it happen again? How bad is it compared to TJ surgery?

    Also, hopefully we don't have to see Marquez at all unless we are getting blown out or blowing the other team out. As for Hudson still a possibility for Sunday, how long does Marquez have to be up before we can send him back down?

  12. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 01:38 PM)
    This still blows my mind. He was so f***ing awful last year.. I know, small sample size, but still, even if all he gives us this year is these passed few weeks, I'm totally okay with it. I assumed once he was sent back down, we'd never see him again. Welcome back!

    He's still trying to be a power hitter, but right now he is just seeing the ball really well and hitting it with authority. I doubt he'll keep this up very long, but it is refreshing to see compared to Beckham having no clue what he's doing and trying to hit 500 ft. homers everytime he swings.

  13. Jones getting 3 starts in a row, let alone being on an MLB roster, is laughable. I hope Jones gets his 400th tonight, that way there should be nothing holding us back from DFA'ing after he strikes out pitifully his other AB's.

    Also, if you are going to have Jones in the lineup, don't bat him 6th. He provides NO PROTECTION what-so-ever for our hottest hitter, Quentin. At least put Viciedo there because he has been swinging the bat with authority and does appear to be a threat when he steps into the batters box.

  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:49 PM)
    He's hit the ball once this year, and it was a homer.

    I think I could match that... strikeout swinging looking like a fool the rest of my AB's, but a pitcher is bound to lay one on a platter to me right over the plate that I can get a hold of!

  15. If we sign LBJ, regardless if we get Bosh or not, I will finally be a basketball fan again.

    When I was a youngin, I was a Bulls fan for obvious reasons... it was the 90's! But ever since the glory days and the Bulls being crap-mediocre, I lost most of my interest in the Bulls and NBA.

    But if we get Lebron, well, wouldn't that be something! I WANT LEBRON!!!

  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:37 PM)
    CarGo is a fantastic player...budding superstar that hates to walk

    has bounced around from 3 different organizations as well, right?

    Great natural hitter, but he definitely needs to work on his plate discipline and BB:K ratio though if he wants to maintain success.

  17. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:20 PM)
    As a hitter, how do you not sit dead red for high heat against Thornton? It's what he does like 99.9% of the time.

    They do, but Thornton's fastball is even tougher to hit because of his easy motion, it really sneaks up on the hitters. And then, when he does throw his mediocre slider in the right situation, the hitters have no chance.
