  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:24 AM)
    Just a guess, but my trade prediction is Morel and Harrell for Branyan. Seattle has shown interest in Morel the past few weeks.

    Oh god no. The only way I trade for Branyan is if all it took was Marquez or some non-prospect like him. Even then, I think I would almost prefer Mark Kotsay at DH over Branyan... but thats like asking me if I want herpes or warts.

  2. If it was up to me, I'd get rid of the playoffs and bring back the good old system where the best team in each league wins the pennant and go directly to the world series. When you play 162 regular season games, I really don't see the need for a playoff where 4 teams from each league make it.

    But because of the money it brings in, this will never happen.

    Well...first of all, you're assuming there's no negative effects on the guys we have from them pitching with zero extra rest. This season, Garcia's ERA is 6.03 on normal rest, 4.79 with 1 extra day, and 3.12 in games after 2 extra days of rest. Mark!'s ERA is 5.11 on normal rest, 3.67 on 1 extra day, and 2.48 after 2 extra days. Floyd is 4.48 on normal rest and 2.06 on extra rest (this could, of course, just be a function of when his extra rest games came relative to June/July, when he got hot). D1: the Pitching Danks is 3.59 on normal rest and 2.64 on extra rest.

    So...with every other guy in our starting rotation, the extra day of rest has been worth 1+ runs to their ERA's.

    Even ignoring that, I'd say that I think Hudson is likely to be close to a .500 pitcher the rest of the way, if he gets run support. I wouldn't be surprised if Torres/Marquez could win a game or two. So there's at least, to my eyes, a 2 win difference between Hudson and the other guys we have, compiled on top of the help of extra rest for the other starters.

    Trying to use Mr. Offday as your 5th starter is a recipe for giving this division to the Twins.

    Ok, interesting, but how many starts have each of them had on normal rest and extra rest?

    When I got to sporting events or in a crowded bathroom, be it movie theatre or whatever, I have to pee in a stall.

    I could pee anywhere probably, if it has to come out, it has to come out.

    But like you, I will always go for the stall over the urinal, even if the bathroom is empty. I just feel a lot more comfortable in a stall, and I'm always worried about splash back from the urinal. Plus, I don't like standing that close to what is basically a piss soaked wall with the pipe out.

    Hopefully your exaggerating. A Carlos for Dunn swap would get KW fired. Jerry would rightfully step in and slap KW silly to wake him up out of his stupor.

    Even if CQ deals with injuries on a yearly basis, he's worth far more than two months of Dunn

    Right now, CQ isn't worth a whole lot. His effectiveness as a hitter goes hand in hand with his health, and I really don't have any faith in him being able to stay healthy.

    And to say CQ now is worth more than 2 months of Dunn and 2 draft picks is laughable. Yeah, after 08, but not now.

    Ya, I didn't have to decide. Sexy cheerleader, easy to talk to, loves sports, and even more importantly, knows what the hell she's talking about. The only thing I don't like about this girl is her insane love of Tim Tebow.

    Wow, thats awesome! What's his name?

  7. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 11:47 PM)
    I'd rather hold onto Morel over Danks. Good defender, line drive hitter in the mold of a Michael Young/Brian Roberts type of player. John has to understand Jordan has had all the time to show what he can contribute and it seems like the same story each year: K-rate is ridiculously high.

    Whoa, slow down there killer. I'd hardly put Morel in the same category as Young or Roberts. At best, we'd probably be looking at a Joe Randa type, but probably more like Joe Crede. Morel looks like a solid player and all and that he might develop into a decent major leaguer, but we'd definitely be selling high on him and I think that would be the smartest thing to do if we were set on such on a trade. Flowers and Danks' trade values are at all time lows and both offer more potential in the future than Morel.

    I like Morel, but if I had to choose between the three on who to trade, it's an easy choice for me.

    With that being said, I'd like to see if the Nats still want CQ bad. If we could get Dunn for CQ and a lesser prospect than the ones mentioned, I'd do that, only because I have lost all faith in CQ being able to stay healthy.

  8. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 10:28 PM)
    Viciedo had two disappointing years in the minors and has shown no ability to draw walks. Smoak kicked ass at every level he played at...he's considered a better prospect than Beckham. Unfortunately I don't think Viciedo has 1/3 the value Smoak has.

    Yet Viciedo has shown to be a better hitter vs. MLB pitching thus far and I would be willing to bet a decent amount of money that Viciedo will be the better MLB player.

    Viciedo definitely needs to work on his discipline, but odds are while he won't walk as much as Smoak, he won't K as much either (I could see him being a guy in the 60-80 range in the majors, even though he didn't have a very good K rate in the minors), and he definitely looks like the more natural hitter.

    If Viciedo doesn't get pull happy and continues to hit the ball to center/right, he can be a very dangerous hitter, as we saw today. However, if he does get pull happy, I think he would turn into something like his cuban teammate with more pop, which isn't bad, but isn't spectacular either. If he stays with the oppo approach though, I definitely think he can be a scary hitter.

    Speaking of which though, I think if Ramirez stuck to the approach he had when he first got here and never got pull happy, he would be an all-star and hit above .300 easy.

  9. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:47 PM)
    Haha. Ya I remember you were his biggest fan in that 08 draft and lobbied for him. (though there were a couple other posters too) I didn't blame you then or not though.. I still like that kid's upside. Shame hitting at Safeco might kill his power output though, unless he gets a bit stronger. Great plate discipline though.. probably will have around the same BB:SO ratio.. probably more BBs if/when he gets more dangerous at the plate.

    Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention... he's a little league hitter from the right side at this moment.

    He is everything you would want on paper, especially considering his plate discipline, but from what I've seen, I think he's gonna be a similar to Russell Braynan/Chris Davis/Hank Blalock except he has a better shot of sticking as a starter because he isn't an automatic K and will still draw a good amount of walks.

  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:19 PM)
    There's a much better likelihood of him getting hurt when he's playing defense. Because you know, that requires a lot of running.

    Injury-proneness is one thing when you look at Quentin, but the flip side is that his defense is flatout atrocious. The ankle and knee problems have made him even worse lately.

    Quentin is going to get hurt no matter what he does it seems like. The whole point of DHing him now would to take his horrible glove out of the field.

  11. QUOTE (clown baby @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:58 PM)
    bleh, i hate putting quentin in RF when you really dont have to.

    It doesn't matter if he is sitting the bench for a game, he's become an injury risk for whatever he does now. Every time he slides into a base it looks like he sprained or pulled something and gets up really gingerly.

    I have no officially gone to the conclusion that if Q gets injured, it won't be because he's playing the field, it'll be because he is just one of those guys who is injury prone.
