  1. Wow, who really gives a s***? If the fans want to do it, let them f***ing do it. It hardly takes anything away from the game except maybe you miss a pitch.

    Yeah, most of us on this board are diehard fans, but the majority of the 30,000 fans there probably are just casual fans and just going to game for some fun. I'm not going to let the f***ing wave ruin my day like it does to everyone on here it seems like.

    And getting embarrassed because your buddy was at a sox game and saw the wave? Grow some nuts! You must not realize that some of the s*** that goes down at wrigley is easily some of the most vulgar and disgusting stuff you will ever see at a pro sports outing.

  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM)
    Mark Kotsay will NOT be DFA'd. He won't.

    Unfortunately, it looks like you are correct.

    In the insane world that is white sox baseball, only we would keep around an old, slow, weak hitting 1B, even if we get someone who does everything he does but better.

    Its just so stupid to keep Kotsay around if we get one of Berkman or Dunn.

  3. Unless he either turns into a complete stud or the D-Backs gave us money in return, Jackson's 8.5 million next year is going to cripple us.

    Odds are, we are going to have over 80 million locked up between the rotation, bullpen, and Rios... how the f*** does that make any sense when we are a team that at the most will have a budget around 110 million, if that?

  4. Makes absolutely no sense to me. I understand going after Jackson, but I do not understand trading Hudson for him. Hudson is younger, cheaper, and offers just as much upside.

    I actually like Edwin Jackson, wanted us to acquire him last year before the Tigers did. But this is stupid. Yeah, yeah, yeah, coop MIGHT be able to fix him. But this season he has an ERA over 5 vs. an automatic out 3 times a game in the NL.

    Getting someone like Jackson would make more sense in the offseason when you would have time to work with him. But for in the middle of a playoff run!? There's no guarantee this season Jackson would be any better than Hudson.

    Just stupid if you ask me.

  5. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:30 PM)
    Yeah but from the Twins perspective dealing him makes a lot of sense because he's not going to be playing C for them, and I don't think his bat will play that well elsewhere (on the field), hence not having a position.

    I completely understand that, but that doesn't mean you trade him for the sake of trading him. He still has a ton of value at C, and probably could have been better used in a bigger trade.

  6. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:19 PM)
    Not sure I'd call Wilson Ramos their best prospect, 3rd or 4th best perhaps, plus he doesn't have a position with Mauer locked up at C and I don't think his bat will play that well at 1B/DH.

    He didn't have a position with the Twins, but isn't he viewed as a catcher by most teams?

  7. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:02 PM)
    As stated above, the Cantu trade takes them out of the Berkman sweepstakes.

    Not unless they plan on having Cantu play 2B while Kinsler is out and then using Cantu as a utility player when Kinsler comes back. Obviously they'd be sacrificing a lot of D, but their offense would be even scarier with Berkman and Cantu being involved.

  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:55 PM)
    His OPS this year when he plays RF: .818. When he DH's: .814.

    I think I could live with that 0.004 decrease in OPS.

    ;)

    You were probably joking, but yeah, he's DH'ed probably at most 10 games, and it seemed like he DH'ed quite a few times when he was on his incredible tear.

  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:05 PM)
    You can make a case for others I'm sure. Utley and Rollins comes to mind, but they're both hurting (although better defensively). Gimme a year and maybe we can talk Ramirez and Beckham?

    Nah, I don't see it. Beckham certainly might become a better offensive player than Uggla, but I don't see Ramirez improving more than what we have seen out of him, unless someone gets through to him and he stops being so pull happy. Ramirez could be a stud if he used RF a lot more.

  10. QUOTE (clown baby @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:09 PM)
    Does anybody else really like the idea of keeping Morel long term? He's been praised for his defense, and that would be great to have an elite infield of Morel, Alexei, and Beckham. That would be spectacular.

    I like Morel, and while it would be nice to keep him, he's just not that good of a prospect to be the sticking point between us making a major move and not.

    My gut feeling from the little of seen from Morel and all the stuff I have heard about him, he will likely be useful in the MLB. However, I see him as a guy who sticks around in the majors because of his glove, and his bat always holding him back. Really similar to Joe Crede to be honest (without the massive fan boy love, at least not yet).

    As for Beckham, his defense at 2B has left a lot to be desired. And while it is only his first year at 2B and he could improve a lot in the future, I'm not going to chalk him up as a stud defensive 2B until I see it.

  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:08 PM)
    I really disagree on that...because it strikes me that Morel is one of those guys who isn't hugely valuable in a trade (because he doesn't have superstar upside) but could be really useful to us (by being a reliable average bat with a good glove and cheap).

    I actually think it's quite the opposite. Morel's value right now is probably as high as it ever will be, and I think scouts are now leaning towards more safe players instead of the toolsy players. A team that is in rebuilding mode could highly value Morel for the same reasons why you said he provides value to us.

  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:58 PM)
    I think it's clear that the Astros' acquisition of a young, near major league ready 1B means they're prepared to trade Berkman to the White Sox.

    Yep, first thing that I thought when I heard about the acquisition. The Astros look like they are finally committed to go into a full rebuilding mode, and now that they finally moved Oswalt, Berkman is likely next, and they have Wallace now and there is no point in keeping him in the minors at this point.

    How much longer do they have to be crippled by that horrible contract they gave Lee?

  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:55 PM)
    The Marlins completely flipflopped on him a few weeks ago and decided that they're keeping him for now.

    That's a bummer. Outside of striking a little bit more than you would like to see, Dan Uggla is a really good ball player, and I thought for sure the Marlins were looking to get rid of his salary.

  14. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:43 PM)
    The Astros are flipping the outfielder for BRETT WALLACE. WTF?

    Brett Wallace's stock has really plummeted since last year. There are concerns about his bat being able to translate to the majors and that even 1B might be a push for him defensively.

    Still a stupid trade for the Blue Jays though. Tony Gose does not look like much a prospect at all. His SB% this season is laughable, and as already stated, best case scenario is that he turns into Michael Bourn Jr., and that ain't that good.

    Stupid of the Blue Jays to trade Michael Taylor for Wallace in the first place.
