  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) The Astros were something like 15 games below .500 in late May of 05 and came back to make the playoffs. That should be the reference point I'd say. This AL is much stronger though than that NL, but good point none the less. This quote in the game day thread is hilarious too: It sucks having relatives from Minnesota and Cleveland. I keep getting texts asking me how piggy is doing.
  2. Miguel Cabrera Kenny W and the White Sox are a Joke for their horrible decision making all offseason
  3. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) DAMN...beat me to it. Leyland has GOT to be FURIOUS!!! Leyland was seen waving his white sack of sunflower seeds at one of the other coaches in the 7th or 8th inning....official white flag has been thrown .... cannot wait for some firings to occur and this team to completely implode if they get swept and get to the Cell down 0-9.....can you imagine the electricity at the Cell if we can end Det's season and send them down 1-11 or 0-12???
  4. Best post of the day by one of the tiger fans on the game day thread, when someone asked for a 6 run 9th inning rally ================ time for 6 runs! we don't have 3 days
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Can't remember where I heard it, but basically they were saying that getting bullpen help this early in the season is not easy. For the most part, bullpen pitchers are cheap. So, teams aren't going to want to give anything up, at least until the deadline, and by that time, the Tigs might be out of it. Rodney's unreliable...Zumaya too. Should be a very interesting time for them because the help is going to have to come from the farm teams or a retread that is currently out of baseball. And except for Porcello, there is nothing in that farm system either....their team is full of old (Maggs; Sheff; Ivan; Rogers etc), overpaid hacks and with no prospects left now, they are doomed if they cannot turn it around. How does that Linebrink & Dotel signing look now for the Sox? I would not want to see those 2 relievers with the Tigers....
  6. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Well...they added Miguel Cabrera. The Sox added Darin Erstad. The bullpen will eventually get help. Rodney's been slow to recover, but he'll return in time. Zumaya will return middle-late. Granderson's looked like a pretty remarkable talent, whether or not he goes 20-20-20-20-20-20-20-20-..., and one bad year doesn't convince me that Renteria is incapable of playing in the AL. If everything continues to implode for them, hey, great. But I think it's unlikely that we're looking at anything like a 72-win team. Rodney's return has been delayed; and according to Leyland, Zumaya is "light years out" .... buh bye season
  7. Posted by a Tiger fan at the Det forum: The Sox are stacked, honestly. With Crede back, the addition of Swisher, they're the same team the Tigers had to fight in 2006, if not better. I see them doing better than Cleveland
  8. Tiggers now batting 0.135 with RISP.....
  9. Boston up 3-0 ..... the wrist slashing is on ...golden boy cabrera with another error at 3rd http://motownsports.com/forums/showthread....8552&page=9 Some of the posts in the game thread are hilarious: =============== Sometimes you just run into seven (and counting) good pitchers. You've just got to tip your cap. =============== I keep picturing the groundskeepers in Major League II: "They're s***ty again" or something like that. This is exactly what it feels like. That the two years of good baseball are now a dream and we're back to where we were before... =============== so we're the Baltimore Orioles now? Fat overpaid bad. =============== Grilli warming up. It's gonna get worse before it gets better... =============== The Giants are the worst team in baseball and even THEY'VE won a ****ing game. =============== Hey... remember in our home opener? It was like the 5th or 6th inning, verlander's cruising along with 1 hit. We're up 3-0. Remember that? The promise of a new season. Cabrera homered. Life was good back then. We had the whole season ahead of us. =============== Given how Grilli's repeatedly trotted out there I really don't think teh Tigers will admit that they messed up by insisting Cabrera plays 3B. They told us they scouted him and that he's a good 3B and dagummit that's the way it's gonna be. Did we get a dog for the next 8 years? =============== Phew....about time a good hitter comes to the plate........Jones is up. =============== Oh wait, I forgot Pudge was up. An obvious strikeout. =============== Leyland on Pudge in Spring Training: "As locked in as I've ever seen him." =============== .000 with runners on and two outs. Pathetic. =================== Another piss poor at bat from a piss poor player. Leyland should be fired for not throwing things in the dugout right now. =================== I think I died a little bit with that pop-out. *sigh* =================== ****ing christ almighty the douchebag walked in a god damn run (this is for Grilli) =============== Cut him (Grilli). No excuses. Cut him now. Right now. Before the game ends. BINGO. Accountability must start now, we're starting to reach Tigers are an overpayed Joke team, really quickly. April fools IS over right guys? ================= I wonder what we could get for Grilli on the trade market... We would have to leave him on someone's doorstep and RUN! ================ I don't even know where cabrera likes the ball, cause I've never seen him hit one. ============== time for 6 runs! we don't have 3 days
  10. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 06:24 AM) I still think that Fields is the future at 3B for us, he works hard on his defense and he will be at least an average defender with a plus arm. He also has offensive potential that Crede simply doesn't not to mention that he will only be a fraction of the cost for the next 5-6 years. If Joe can continue his output for the first month or two of the season he will have built up his trade value enough to get something good in a trade, the Giants, Phillies, and Astros are the three teams that could need a 3B by then not to mention any injuries that will invariably happen by then. So you would risk messing with a winning team (assuming Sox are contending for a pennant at the trade deadline) and play with the club house chemistry etc by trading away Crede? So you do not care what message this would send to the remaining players on the team, most of whom love Crede (go read Kong, Buerhle, AJP's quotes in the Chicagosports.com article today) when they see their friend/team mate gone despite doing everything right this year (again assuming he continues to play well and stays healthy) .... And what do you do if Fields does not perform like Crede after the deadline? And what do you do if Fields makes a fielding error that leads to a critical loss in a playoff game (assuming we get there)? I guess in that case I am happy that Kenny and Ozzie do not think like you because I rather have people in charge who not what it means to win and how to further enable a winning attitude.
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 05:46 AM) Whats funny about this post is back in 2005, you were suspended for specially saying Crede being hurt is a good thing. Just thought I would point that out. Continue. You must be confusing me with someone else because I do not remember ever saying something like that.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 12:09 AM) sox-r-us, it's great that you feel some how redeemed with Crede's success. But I think you are dishing out the 'I told you so' a bit heavy for one week into the season. even if you turn out to be correct at the end of the year, is it really necessary to instigate to this level? this is coming from someone who wanted Crede in the lineup for 2008. so this isn't a 'sour grapes' post Fair points; and I agree it is way too early. But it feels good to see ths club and Kenny being vindicated (despite it being based on really small sample size)....this off season was nothing but hell with the amount of crap that was being dished out by some of these "so called fans". Trust me, I would never complain about Cubs fans after seeing the crap on this site this past off season....
  13. Those who thought that Crede would not be healthy this season were wrong Those who thought that Crede was washed up because of his injury were wrong Oh, and Kenny W was right again. How soon some of you forget what Crede and Kenny have done for this franchise. Amazing how 100 years of not winning a WS means nothing to some of the "know it all pompous posters" here. If Kenny can get the right return for Fields, I would be very happy if he decided to pull that trigger, assuming he extends Crede before the trade. Joe is still very young, his D is huge & his clutch hitting is so under-rated here it is amazing. Read some of the quotes from Mark Buerhle and AJP....to all those who love Fields and hate Crede - are you telling me you understand baseball better than Buerhle or AJP or Kenny W? Here is a clue - no you don't. But keep dreaming and living in your fantasy world. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,1707369.story
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) I think these threads are meant to start fights. Enjoy the success, why throw it in someones face? Lets have this discussion after the World Series Maybe some people here need to learn to not over-react in off seasons and stop throwing things at other people's faces then? Just a thought that makes sense. It would be nice if fans treated all players with respect, and that includes someone like Crede who was injured last year.
  15. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) This thread shouldnt have even been started. What Crede did today is why he is up here is it not? Just dont get your panties in a bunch when Crede leaves this season because his agent thinks he can get more then 15 mil a year and thats all i'll say, and its all that is needed to say. Its 7 games. And why was I wrong about Joe Crede? Pretty sure we know what he did in 06 we should just be glad he is not one of the players that careers fizzle with a bad back injury. Looks like someone is bitter
  16. Serious question - I have always been a Crede fan and fully expected him to revert to being a solid contributor this year. He is not going to be a 0.350 hitter of course over the course of the season; but what if he continues to be a 0.300 or so hitter with a steady glove and the Sox keep on winning? What do you do at the deadline then? If teams ask for Crede, how can you trade him if you are in a pennant race then??? Especially if it is an AL team that asks for him.... I have a feeling we will keep Crede all year and then make the decision (extend Crede and trade Fields or let him go and get draft picks) at the end of this season.....I know there will be people here crying about how we did not get any overhyped, over-rated spects instead .... but you cannot give up a player if your team is in a pennant race.....that would not sit well in the clubhouse or with the casual fans (White flag).
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) I think Tommy Waddle said it best last night, "Kenny Williams must feel like he's 10 feet tall and bullet proof right now." Right now, this crow tastes delicious... watching good baseball triumps over how wrong I was at the beginning of the season. Good job admitting to being wrong. Well done Now lets sweep this series and kill the Tiggers one more time.
  18. Yeah.....I hope the Bo Sox sweep their sorry azzes and send them 0 for 08 as they come to the Cell.....the electricity in the Cell for that series will be HUGE If only, I could get to Chi town and check out some of these ball games
  19. Kenny is so dumb to send Fields down for Crede
  20. I expect us to be in contention for the playoffs near the trade deadline and I think we should trade for another starting pitcher to help with the back end of the rotation, provided we can swing something given we do not have as many spects to deal (maybe Brian Anderson). I fully expect Kenny to be in full stealth mode anyways....under the radar.
  21. They are already calling for Leyland's head http://motownsports.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7
  22. 0-6..... I loved how the ESPN crew kept making excuses for the Tiggers sucking tonight
  23. Because this country's media sucks ass.....all that is left in the media these days is blowhards and opinionated journalists who berate everything and everyone or overhype everything and everyone.....did you see the lovefest for the Tarheels and Kevin Love-led UCLA before this weekend.....so awesome to shut up every expert ..... great performance by Memphis and Kansas who are real teams and not one trick (Hansborough or Kevin love) ponies.....but you will not see the media accept how wrong they were....EVER.
  24. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 05:57 AM) Have you ever heard of sample size? It's rather important. Now, I'm not defending Steve and the original post, but if you're going to make a silly post like this, at least wait until we're a decent amount of time into the season. Otherwise it just makes you look lazy. I agree it is way too early; but the same logic applies the other way too....maybe the original poster should have waited before a single game was played before he started making silly posts????? At least I have 5 games....he had 0....
