Sarah Palin
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) No, the question was about funding for special needs kids, not the teen mothers housing question. She dramatically cut programs for special needs schools. I mean, a LOT. Actual budget figures, all approx: Pre-Palin FY2007 budget: FY2005 Actual: $6.9 mil FY2006 Plan: $7.9 mil FY2007 Governor: $8.3 mil Palin's FY2008 budget: FY2006 Actual: $7.9 mil FY2007 Plan: $3.2 mil FY2008 Governor: $3.2 mil 2007: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/07_OMB/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf 2008: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf The FY2009 budget is more of the same: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/09_omb/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf So you are basically 100% wrong. Being in the position she's now in, as the parent of a child with special needs, I wonder if she'd still feel so great about making those cuts. She'll do herself in over time. The media is a fickle friend, and she's only in the beginning stages of that "friendship".

Sarah Palin
QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) I doubt that the fact that Palin has a child with Downs Syndrome will affect voting patterns of disability rights people. I vaguely remember Biden being involved with the ADA, right? Quite the opposite. I have a daugher who was born with Down Syndrome, and am involved with a few different support groups in our area. In one of the groups, it seems that I'm in the minority of folks (possibly the only one) who thinks that she's allowing the party to exploit him by making an issue of it. Come on, he's not a circus freak that we're paying to see! He's a child, albeit one with special needs; why make such a huge issue of it (IMHO)? But they're all gushing over it, saying how wonderful it could be. No thanks--I don't agree with using a child like that. Also, maybe if she'd been more supportive of sex ed in her home state, her 16-yr old might not be preggers at the moment. This is directly from page 20 of the 63-page vetting posted earlier in the thread:

Dog Suggestions?
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) One word....beagle Love my beagle, too. Charlie is 1 1/2 yrs, and full of smiles and energy. Great with my kids (and one of which was born with special needs). Once you make it through the first year or so, they're great. But, take the advice of the others and go to a shelter. Or try www.petfinder.com--you can do a search for beagles that might be available locally. If you do decide to get one from a breeder instead, make sure they're reputable.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Come on. Doesn't she know how difficult life on the streets can be? These kids have no choice. Their communities give them no hope. The government gives them no assistance. This is the life they were all born to live thanks to our greedy society. I sure hope that was sarcasm that I read, there, Jenks. I know it sounds very cliche', but where there's a will, there's a way. EVERY person has the opportunity to make a better life for themselves in this country. They just have to want it, and be willing to work hard for it...legally. In my area, the "system" seems to recycle those families who don't have the drive or desire to do more for themselves right back into the "system". Very few have the drive and desire to make it out, but those that do are phenomenal individuals who give a tremendous amount back, and try to make a difference in the lives of others in an effort to change the "system".
