  1. everyone speaking for the tigers always says "well it's early". yeah it's early, but the way they're playing, it's really difficult for an entire team to push the ON button at the same time, and they could easily struggle all year long, ala the 2007 Chicago White Sox this is a very real possibility, i'd just like everyone to realize that no, they won't go win-less all year, but they could very well be a .500 or below team just for the same reason the 07 sox were, starting off on a very slow start, terrible bullpen, 'OK' starting pitching, and all of the hitters are putting inordinant amounts of pressure on themselves trying to hit and ultimately extending their slump throughout most of the year
  2. QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 01:49 AM) Well, Borowski certainly sucks. Maybe Kenny wasn't so crazy to spend some extra money fortifying the bullpen in a division where Borowski and Todd Jones are two of the closers. unfortunately Soria and Nathan live down the block.
  3. wow javy might make it through the 6th inning with around 100 pitches at this rate
  4. wow that 85mph breaking pitch was VERY FLAT, that will be hammered if he throws that to morneau
  5. javy having serious control problems today....
  6. i have to keep my emotions in check for this game, even if we lose, we've never seen this pitcher before, and it's hard for any lineup 1-9 to be successful the first time you've seen a guy, especially a guy like blackburn who has 3-4 pitches he can throw for strikes and has decent velocity on his fastball
  7. check swinging on an 0-2 breaking pitch? get your head in the game paulie
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) for those watching can you please give a general observation about the Twins Rookie pitcher as we go along? he looks tall, has an overhand delivery, he's getting everything way up or way down, doesn't seem to have any huge movement on his fastball tie game
  9. OC! you can cancle the rookie-on-the-mound-that-we've-never-faced no-hitter post-game show
  10. swiiiiiiiiiiiiiisherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is a stuuuuuuuuuuuud
  11. he can't throw his 2 seamer or his breaking pitches
  12. swish was just on the score: "After the collision me and JD had in cleveland going after a fly ball, i guess you could say we have a LOT BETTER communication now after that happened" that's good to hear, lol
  13. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 01:50 AM) They are already calling for Leyland's head http://motownsports.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7 just finished reading that thread, plus the game thread. i will say, for the most part their fans are pretty knowledgable and polite, but there are some ridiculous toolbags that post over there. See sig.
  14. QUOTE(almagest @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) We're leading the AL in OBP (.370) and HR (10) according to mlb.com. It's so nice to see a team that can make these pitchers work and drive up the pitch count. We've gotten some good pitchers out of the game early against us. Also thank you to the Diamondbacks for having so many good young outfielders that they can afford to trade Quentin for an A-ball DH/1B. 2nd now in HR behind arizona (12 vs 10), and 2nd in OBP behind STL (.373 vs .370), 1st in OPS in all of baseball with .870, with the brewers coming in 2nd with an OPS of .848, 3rd in all of baseball in runs scored with 38, behind ATL & MIL who are tied with 40 interesting side note, we're 8th in all of baseball in hits with 56, yet we're 13th in all of baseball in total at bats with 208. also, another interesting tidbit which won't surprise anyone here that's been watching all the games this year we lead all of baseball in walks with 32, and individually Nick Swisher so far is an absolute stud with 8 walks in 6 games, tied for 1st with encarnacion and pujols, and Paulie has 7 walks on the year, we have 2 players in the top 5 of total walks on the year this doesn't even look like the same team as last year, seriously... just updating~
  15. does quentin's batting stance remind anyone else, besides me, of Kevin Youkilis' stance?
  16. looks like cleveland gonna win today ugh..
  17. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) Inge at center? He's damn athletic, but idk how he is out there. I'm sure Lexi will get some love from the ESPN announcers and provide some interesting observations on him even though Quentin should be out there. he's better than cabrera defensively at 3rd, and probably worse than clete thomas in CF
  18. QUOTE(JFields27 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) Alexei Ramirez will be in Center for the Sox -- Swish and Dye at the Corners INF is the regular one we see. For the Tigers, Inge is playing Center, Miggy is back at 3rd and Sheffield will be at DH jesus christ, taking out quentin for ramirez? unreal...
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) dye needs to be in there...hes 9 for 20 with 3 HR lifetime off of verlander interesting quotes from Verlander: we might see a different style of pitching from verlander tonight
  20. hee hee garland crapping the bed today edit: 1-0 A's over tribe ! sweeney 5-10 on the year haha
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:06 AM) I didn't want to put this in a new thread, but how about Swisher's defense today? He looked to be getting some good jumps on the balls, and made some really good plays out there. I haven't watched him out in CF that much, but if he can do what he did today, I'll be impressed. And while talking defense, how about Quentin throwing Renteria out? Hell of a throw and arm... I'm glad he's brought his A-game thus far this season, hopefully it'll make it tougher to keep him out of the lineup. well, he went to stanford. he's probably a relatively intelligent individual and realizes the performance that he needs to exhibit to keep a job on the big league club, he's going to give it his all game in and game out, and we need pretty much every single guy on the team to do that all year long if we plan on making the playoffs contreras, javy, and mark haven't gotten the memo yet unfortunately
  22. i'd have to say Danks first outing, it's only 1 outing but he looked like a friggin stud, moreso than any other time i've seen him during a real MLB game, if he can be that good, or at least nearly that good for the rest of the year, we could have the best 1-2-3 in the AL
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) So, basically you dont like Gavin? His fastball is not 90 mph. not with toby hall calling the game, i don't.
