  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:57 PM)
    Is that like a day later or something? I thought it was always scheduled for 2 years from now, with this years version being the ground war movie (forget the name).

    It was originally set for May of 2017. Rogue One is still this December.

  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:47 AM)
    Jordan Morris is turning down an offer from Werder Bremen to sign with the Seattle Sounders. That's disappointing. I really feel like MLS is hurting the USMNT. No US field players are testing and pushing themselves overseas any more.

    I don't really think I agree with this in Morris' case. It probably would have been better to see Bradley keep pushing in Europe, but I don't think MLS is hurting the national team on the whole. Altidore needed playing time, Jones and Dempsey were getting older so dropping to MLS wasn't much below where they'd be in Europe anyway. Plus, Dempsey was the US' best field player for much of 2015 so MLS didn't seem to hurt him.

    As for Morris, he's making the jump from college to MLS, which is still significant. He's playing with three well-regarded international forwards in Dempsey, Obafemi Martins and Nelson Valdez, which means getting playing time will not be easy and he's going to be pushed in training. Now, if he becomes a star in MLS and is still in the league 3-4 years from now, I will probably agree with you. For now, this is a good jump. He has time to make other jumps later.

    Love that you guys are taking my theory I wrote seriously. I should tweet out some hot MLB gos next.

    It's not that original of a theory. It was the first thing I came up with after watching it just because I don't want her to be related.

  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:06 PM)
    Probably what would have happened in real life theory:

    Luke the professor starts giving special attention to Rey the student in Jedi School. Ben Solo, obsessed with gaining approval, can't handle it and starts following the person that will hurt Luke most, his father. Ren revolts, luke, not wanting to have his claim to youth lost, wipes her memory and leaves her on a desert island, just like a man.

    Part Eternal sunshine for the spotless mind, part scott evil.

    I like this theory and am really hoping it's true. I want the Skywalker monarchy to fade from the series.

  5. OK no more prequel talk. This was a good thread and now the inmates are running the asylum. I know I contributed, but let's get back to the movie most people enjoyed as opposed to b****ing about 10+ year-old movies.

  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 09:34 PM)
    To be honest, after re-watching all 6 a couple weeks ago, Episode III may be my favorite.

    *prepares for tomatoes to the face*

    3 was good until the NOOOOOOOO Vader moment. The laughably worst moment of the entire series.

  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:19 PM)
    The problem with Yoda's back story is it went from dark and mysterious to outrageously stupid and comical when a midget was doing flips like monkey while wielding a saber...and it looked -- as Robert Downey Jr. would say -- full on retard.

    ...and for the record, I really really liked parts 5, 6 and 7 (4 was also good, just not as good as those three). Parts 1-3 were an embarrassment.

    What was wrong with the Yoda fight? He was the leader of the Jedi, he better be strong in a fight. Of all the things to complain about from the prequels, this isn't one for me. You expect the leader of the Jedi to be cool in a fight and he did some cool s***.

  8. If you didn't already have a skeptical view of refs, Mirotic was initially robbed of a 3 when he was a good foot behind the 3-point line. I went back a few times on my DVR to figure out what the hell happened and why it was called a 2. They finally went back to look at it at the end of the quarter (I think there was about 2:30 left in the quarter when he made the shot) and got it right. At least the NBA nailed it's replay system. IMO the best of any sport.

  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 04:57 PM)
    Rose has been fouled 6 times and has gotten 2 calls.

    Regardless, kudos to the Bulls for making this an actually entertaining game despite the score.

    I came on here to ask if anyone else thought the officiating was terrible. The Bulls didn't do themselves any favors by sleepwalking through the first quarter and a half though.

  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:29 PM)
    Ugh, why is the force hereditary, that's stupid.

    I don't think it is necessarily. Sort of like good genes help, but it doesn't have to be passed down through family lineage. I feel like there have been a lot of references in the cartoons where there is a child that is strong with the force, but the parents weren't.

  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 07:46 AM)
    My fan theory:

    Finn got taken from his family at a young age; his family (father) has got to be Lando Calrissian.

    Lando blew up the second Death Star and was friends with Han and Leia (Kylo Ren/Ben's family).

    The First Order kidnapped his only child as a payment of retribution.

    There might be something to that just based on the scene with Maz Kanata saying "You see the same eyes" or something like that. Han Solo said "Very good" as if he noticed it, too, but I also thought that might have been that they both noticed he was a stormtrooper. There might be something to Finn's background though. Nothing to hint at Lando though.

  12. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:53 PM)
    Start getting ready to have that thought all the time my friend. I would imagine everyone on here has these thoughts as you watch yourself age in comparison to players.

    Age 16-18: You start seeing those real young prospects and have the moment you just did where you are shocked that these guys are younger than you, but have so much potential.

    Age 19-22: You start seeing some of the superstar prospects make appearances in the major leagues and you start to wonder why you never were better at baseball.

    Age 23-26: You see most of the guys who make it to MLB come up and it hits you even though it was always obvious. You will never play in the major leagues. You'll stop having daydream fantasies about somehow becoming an MLB player.

    Age 27-30: You start to think about how the players your age are in their MLB prime. Then you evaluate your own physical condition and question if this is your prime.

    Age 31-35: You start seeing guys your age who had good careers, but are starting to fizzle out of baseball. You think about how young the new rookies look, even though it felt like just yesterday that they were your age. You'll start saying things like, "Oh to be 23 again".

    Age 36-40: You rarely see guys your age playing anymore. Than you once again have the feeling that you know you can never be a MLB player.

    I would imagine it keeps going from there. I bet you get to a point where you have all these feelings again, but instead of about you, you're comparing the player to your kid.

    This is one of the best posts I've seen on here in a while. I fit in the middle of the scale and have these thoughts regularly (relating to all sports, not just MLB).

  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 08:02 PM)
    http://www.sbnation.com/2016/1/1/10699822/...-rose-bowl-iowa

    Stanford band continues to piss people off...but probably no worse than Hollywood making jokes about flyover territory or movies like "Cedar Rapids."

    And at least Field of Dreams was great for attracting tourism dollars while it lasted.

    I laughed my ass off through the whole story (and the 2013 and 2014 versions). ANF on Iowa's helmets had me rolling. If anyone can't laugh at this, even when your school is involved, I feel sorry for that person living such a terrible life.

  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 11:54 PM)
    Couldn't she be a Kenobi? Ole Ben coulda been a real horndog back in the day, we just didn't see it on film.

    He had a love interest in the Clone Wars cartoon. I don't remember much about her, but they did kind of play around with that.

  15. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 01:31 PM)
    Rey was a young force user training under Luke at the time of Kylo Ren's massacre.

    She is the only survivor other than Luke.

    Luke decides to hide her away from Kylo (similar to how Luke was hidden away)

    Do we know it was a massacre of Luke's academy? Unless it's described or mentioned in a book or something, I believe the only mention in the movie is Han Solo saying 'one of the students destroyed it all.' I wonder if we're placing in the massacre part just because we saw Anakin do it. Perhaps a number of the students were sent away for protection like Rey.

  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 12:02 PM)
    The line isn't exactly the same. Even so, they are implying that there is another member of the family. It wouldn't make sense for Luke to be saying this to Kylo Ren, since he already knows both that he has force powers and is related.

    There's no reason to rule out Kylo Ren, it could have been said when he was training him.

    I'm a bit bothered by use of my family, instead of our family. If he was talking to Rey as a family member, he wouldn't use my family, thus excluding her.

    The most likely scenario is we're all reading way too much into this. That was a teaser trailer that was designed to excite fans about the upcoming movie and get them thinking about what could happen. It clearly succeeded.

  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 08:28 AM)
    There is a line in the trailer (which was NOT in the movie) where Luke says, "The force is strong in my family. My father had it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too."

    The only thing I can figure is that this is a line from the beginning of Episode 8 spoken by Luke to Rey. Either that or there's a new character we haven't seen yet.

    I definitely missed this. Wouldn't this have received more attention if so?

  18. I just wanted to say that I've been watching the Doctor Who marathon on BBC America, and, man, I forgot how good the Amy Pond episodes were. She was my favorite companion to begin with, but the story arcs were just fantastic.

  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 11:29 AM)
    Saw it last night, it was a fun time, but the pace was too fast and the Stormtroopers basically posed no threat, which bothered me. Should be interesting to see where they go from here though.

    It's a running joke that Stormtroopers have terribly bad aim. It would almost be weird if they were a threat.
