  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 12:20 PM)
    Here's my report from May with video.

    He's unorthodox in a few ways, which helps him I'm sure. But if you take what I saw, add a few ticks to the fastball and add a cutter, he's suddenly a much more intriguing guy. At his age though, they need to get him moving.

    I feel like pitchers can move quicker though as long as the stuff is good enough. They're not reacting like hitters so if the stuff is there a big or fast level jump shouldn't be a problem.

    I don't know if Cooper has improved since I saw him in May (there are reports of increased velo, and maybe an upper 80s pitch that suggests a cutter) or if he has just gotten really good at getting A-ball hitters out, but he's been absolutely ridiculous. I mean, 26 K and 0 BB in 13 scoreless innings? LOL, time for a promotion and quick. See if you've got something.

    Yeah, what's the story with him? Does anyone know about his stuff? His numbers last summer in Great Falls were strong, too.

    Dan what about Eric Johnson ? Didn't he have a recent string of giving up 1 run in 40 innings ?

    QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:37 AM)
    No Erik Johnson?

    also you should tweet at the teams and/or players. They'd probably love to hear these articles and give them a retweet.

    Johnson only pitched 15 innings in July so I think I shafted him in place of others. He certainly pitched very well.

    Very favorable WCQ draw to the U.S. today.

    Group A--Mexico,Honduras,Curacao/El Salvador,Canada/Belize

    Group B--Costa Rica,Panama,Grenada/Haiti,Jamaica/Nicaragua

    Group C--US,Trinidad Tabago, St Vincent/Aruba,Antigua and Barbuda/Guatemala

    That group B is rough assuming Haiti and Jamaica get through. Costa Rica could go from World Cup quarterfinals to not even making the hex!

  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:24 AM)
    I still can't figure out what Beckerman does for this team, and there seems to be a serious lack of quality defenders.

    Beckerman is a good protector of the back line, breaking up plays. When he is on he is a great move it along passer, too. He keeps it moving quickly to get guys like Bradley and the wide players in good spots. His passing was off last night and his lack of speed was a problem against Jamaica. He's on the decline and he should probably be moved out of the pool at this point because he won't be playing in the 2018 World Cup anyway.

    QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:47 AM)
    And the subs of Mix and Gordon were useless. All I ever read online is play Mix and he was an absolute ghost out there last night.

    Gordon was awesome, the problem was they went maybe too direct with him on. He won so many headers in the air to give his teammates the ball near the box, but the defense was so deep that those passes still didn't result in chances. Watch his appearance again, he wins almost every header. That said, I'd rather have had the US play wide and look for his head in the box instead of 25 yards out as a pass to a teammate.

  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 10:59 PM)
    I also don't understand how Vela's elbow was a yellow but Panama got a straight red in the first half (and I don't have a problem with the straight red but Vela's was much more intentional).

    How could you not have a problem with that straight red? It was stupid, but his elbow wasn't bent and his fist wasn't closed. There's no intent at all, which means no red. It's reckless at worst to leave your arm in the air going for a header, but his arm was so loose as he went up that there was no danger. It's a yellow and move on. A straight red is too important of a call to blow on something like that. I really wanted Panama to just walk off the field. To deal with those disastrous calls and then have s*** thrown on them from the stands (is anyone ever going to do something about that? Sanctions of some kind?) throughout the game should have been enough to just leave.

  7. This Mexico team is absolutely terrible. Does anyone have any desire to score a goal? They defend well, they possess well and then they get to the final third and it's pass sideways, pass backwards, dispossessed. Even when they get in the box, it's pass, pass, pass until a defender closes someone down. I honestly can't remember a kicked shot on goal since halftime. This with a man advantage! Forget firing the coach, get new players. Carlos Vela has been a disaster.

  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 07:36 AM)
    I disagree. Having Morris or even Agudelo on the roster gives us a speed weapon we could play on the wing, unlike any other forward we are bringing. I'm over Wondo, waste of a roster spot IMO.

    In a long-term way and against strong teams I agree. They can switch out some players after the group stage and most of the media I follow are assuming Klinsmann will do so. Wondo is a good player to have against a team that bunkers because of his movement, which is exactly what the US will need against the CONCACAF minnows. That said, I still agree with you that I'd rather see someone else go to at least get the experience.

  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 01:11 PM)
    At this point, I'd rather have them shift resources to the NX. While the Wii U does have some great games, the system was botched from the get-go. Going with the "Wii" brand (terrible idea), not having a killer app that leveraged the control pad, a barely functioning OS at launch, and some huge game droughts early on sealed the system's fate.

    I don't think going with the Wii brand was a bad idea at all. Not simply calling it the Wii 2 was stupid. When I first heard about the Wii U I thought it was a f***ing add on, not a whole new console. The name may have killed it before it had a chance. Going with Wii 2 is something that is clear to the audience and everyone will know it's the new version. Wii U sounded like a college version of the original.

  10. The Fallout 4 presentation at E3 was damn impressive. I wasn't even interested in that game, but that looks like one hell of a game. Hard to see anything looking better than that the rest of the show.

  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:06 AM)
    US U-20's advance to the quarter finals with a 1-0 win over Colombia. Rubin scored and Steffen saved a PK in the 83rd minute. Supposedly CCV, Miazga and Desevio Payne were all beasts on defense. If Payne (currently starting in the Eredevisie) can become an answer at one of our FB positions down the road that'd be great. We've struggled there ever since Cherundolo retired.

    They play Serbia at 12:30 on Saturday night/Sunday morning. A trip to the semi-finals is very possible right now.

    Payne looks good. I'm not sure I'd be rushing him into the full team, but maybe in a couple years. There's not a ton of depth on this team, but there's also a lot of high level prospects. Carter-Vickers might be able to play for the senior team within a year. Steffen looks like a strong GK prospect. Zelalem is legit. Hyndman looks like a future Michael Bradley. Rubin looks good. Patience is key and hopefully these guys keep improving, but it looks like a nice group.

    QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 04:00 PM)
    A lot of the young players on the US are looking good ahead of the Gold Cup. I think if the US win the Gold Cup, they get automatic qualification for the 2018 WC.

    No, they qualify into the 2017 Confederations Cup if they win the Gold Cup.

  12. I did a story on Ryan Hinchley, the 9th rounder, last summer when he was playing summer ball locally. He went to York HS in Elmhurst. Was a really cool dude. He's had major control problems since high school and this season might have been his best, including his high school years. I can't imagine he had any dream of getting drafted before this spring, and certainly not this early.

    So just for a bit of background here, does everyone who posts in this thread have a favorite English Premier League team they go for (or at least in Europe)?

    To kick it off, I'm a West Ham supporter (East London team), and have been from about 2000 onwards. They move into the Olympic Stadium in about 15 months from now, and are looking to break into the top 4 eventually (easier said than done).

    My favorite team is AS Roma. I root against any of the English teams in Europe whenever given the chance (nice showing from them this year lol) although I did jump on the Cardiff City bandwagon a bit. That didn't turn out well.

  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:13 AM)
    US advancing to the knockout stages of the U-20 WC. Zelalem, Rubin, Carter-Vickers and Hyndman all look legit. Some other good performances so far but those 4 really stand out

    They looked really good in that game. I know New Zealand isn't a power or anything, but it was on the road and the US showed off some quality. Zelalem needs some refinement, which is expected at that age, but he's just working with more tools than most players in that age range. His ability on the ball, both dribbling out of trouble and making key passes, is really strong. Needs to cut down on some loose passes and get a bit stronger and he'll be ready for the full national team.

    Hyndman and Carter-Vickers look like total studs, too. I like Arriola, although I'm not sure what position he profiles at as he gets older.
