  1. Koch should definetley stay in the closers role. That is what we are paying him for. When we are winning games in the 9th by 3 or less (4 in some cases), I expect to see Koch out there saving that game. Marte is an extremely good pitcher, no doubt, but he should stay in the set-up man role. He did good there when he set up for Osuna or Foulke. When Marte was a set-up man, he did great. He did great also when he was a closer for the 13 games or so he came in as. He came in as a closer because we did not have a set closer, Foulke wasn't doing hot at all last year, and him and Osuna switched off. Now we do have a set closer in Billy Koch, and since we do, I think the set-up man role is set now with Marte.

I agree. It should be his job to lose.

  2. When hitting like himself, it's Frank, hands down...

Mags is still improving, so maybe soon it will be him, but until he hits .353, .349, or .347, it's gotta be the Hurt.

What years did Frank have those averages?

    '94, '96, and '97, respectively.

That's been six years. I still think that Magglio is the best hitter in the lineup right now.

I hate to do this, because I love Mags, but...

The last season that Frank was himself was 2000. In that season, Frank was .328, 43, and 143. Mags was .315, 32, 126. Frank's OBP was .436, compared to Mags' .371. Mags was good, but Frank was great.

Even look at last season. Frank had what was probably his worst year, and Mags had his best year. Yet, Mags' OBP was only 20 points higher than Frank's (.381 to .361).

So again, Mags is good, but Frank is (still) better.

Maggs' ba was 68 points higher last year, had 105 more total bases and his slugging was about 125 points higher.

Comparing one person's best season to another's worst proves absolutely nothing. It's a waste of time to write it, and a waste of time for others to read it.

I don't see how referring to how Thomas did 6 seasons ago proves how good he will do now either.

  3. He had a decent season last year at Birmingham batting .276 with 39/57 stolen bases.

Im not sure but I think I heard he's moving up to Charlotte this year.  I think there may be too many people ahead of him to get into the White Sox uni anytime soon though. ;)

MLB.com has him on the Knights roster.

  5. Would any of you be interested in participating in a fantasy baseball league on Yahoo! when the season is close to starting? Maybe it could be an official Soxtalk fantasy league.

  7. ALLELUJAH!

    AMEN!

    PRAISE THE LORD!

I have silently agreed with you for a year, 420! I love Willie's Speed, and he plays a great field, reminds me of Ray Durham a little. I also think he has great range in the position, and I don't think Dang is that exciting of a player. I dunno I'll admit besides WS games from last year, I haven't seen a lot of him, but Willie just grabs me more.

A player doesn't have to be exciting to be effective.

  9. I've lived in Oelwein Iowa my whole life, and will most likely be going to college in Ames and/or Iowa City, Iowa in late 2005.

I bet the Huskies could take any high school team you throw at them, too. (Well of course for those sports we dont have, we only have about 450 in our high school)

  10. i dont get it...do these people really think because they can imitate others that we look at them as heros and any crazy s*** that comes out of their mouth will become rallying cries for the masses?

Unfortunately, YES, a lot of people are total sheep and live and die on every move that these people make. This "culture" is so full of star-crossed followers that some idiots don't even know the name of our Vice President, but can rattle off the title of every movie Tom Cruise has ever been in.

A huge segment of the American population is a complete embarrassment. The Kennedys are royalty, people chased another country's princess to her death, and we're more concerned with Michael Jackson's nose, Britney Spears' inflating and deflating tits and where R. Kelly's allegedly sticking his meat than we are with a potential global crisis. It's the lowest common denominator at an all-time low, and it's sad.

I cant remember the exact numbers but in a poll for 18 year olds I think it was, a good majority of them could not locate the Pacific Ocean. That is just sad. Fortunately there are enough smart kids to keep this country dominant in the future...

And just thinking about it, can you imagine the current generation running the country? Like me, wsc, wsf and bighurt as Americas leaders? Thats kinda insane. Some of the vocabulary they may use and such...

Hey roman. Here is the test.

Wow, that is truly sad. In middle school, we had to know where every country in the world was (well, I guess not like the Maldivies and such, but countries like Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan). I'm just glad my teachers cared.

  11. …but what do you guys think of the game? I've played it way too much. I'm 90-19 on Heisman difficulty. I've been making lots of teams my b**** lately.  :)

You probably beat up on Notre Dame like it was a practice squad ;)

I don't think I played against ND yet, but I'll schedule them for next season :Season 6

  12. Ugh…Leiberman.

I still think Edwards will be running in 04.

I agree with you on Edwards.

Thank you for being a voice of sanity in the thread and elsewhere.

Hey baggio - you are my friend and I am not going to unload on you and everyone needs a place to vent but I think all this right wing s*** is exactly that: s***.

It is amazing how the Republican party dominated by the religious right wing is not more apparent than the total hypocritical Christian ayatooahs that they are.

And if no one can distinguisn between stopping genocide in Kosovo and this unbelivable policies of the cowboy Wag the Dog Bushies, then there is not much to talk about.

As was posted in another thread, I hope the Bears do not sign Stewart :D

I think more would vote for Edwards if he didn't have that little "thing" on his upper lip.
