It's great to see this thread about my favorite Sox player of all time. Not only was Britt Burns a very good major league pitcher, he was a good guy as well. I named my first born daughter after him, and I took her with me to a game in Baltimore when she was less than a year old. I took her with me to the railings next to the field where the Sox players went back into the clubhouse before the game started, and I asked one of the players (I think it was Randy Martz if I recall correctly) if he would ask for Britt to come over and say hello. Not only did he come over to where we were standing, he took my little girl in his arms and posed for a coupla pictures, one of which hangs on my wall to this day. He's still my favorite Sox player ever.

Jeff: I've been a Chisox fan for a long time, and I like to follow the progress of certain players through the organization. I have been interested in your career since I read your scouting report in the BA Top 30 Prospect Handbook a coupla years ago. My favorite type of baseball player is a hard-throwing pitcher, thus the interest in you. Please answer a question for me if you can: It seems we've seen a lot of pitchers come up from our farm system with the reputation of being mid to hi 90's guys, and then we see them top out in the lo 90's in the majors. My question: How often is a pitcher's velocity talked about and addressed during his minor league career, and how much emphasis is placed on it? And I hope to see you in the bigs soon (in a Sox uni of course)

Let me tell you what I think is sooooo dumb: for someone to assume what everyone wants to see posted! It was mentioned that the post was merely a FYI and for discussion purposes, and I don't believe I know the things which "are for the boards sake" and those which aren't. Please enlighten me. Close to being true or not, it's an interesting scenario, one which was brought to our attention by someone who in the past has seemed to know what he was talking about. "It's a free country, do as you please", but you've been given pretty sound adivce: if it bothers you, don't read it!

For what it's worth, there's a post at WSI that a new trade between the two teams is being discussed. Says we get Nomar, Trot Nixon and a minor league player, they get Maggs, Valentin, and a minor leaguer. The level of minor leaguers included depends on whether KW can get Nomar to agree to a contract extention. Now, I know a lot are gonna say "anybody can start a rumor", and that just might be the case here, but this guy DID have information about the previous possible trade before anyone else. He says he has a source in the Bosox organization, if I understand correctly. Just a FYI and for discussion purposes.

May I call you next time I want to say something, but can't say it eloquently enough to suit me? And then will you express my thoughts with your eloquence? Not to mention the factual content is astounding!

One of my favorite minor league pitchers is Byeong Hak An, but I haven't heard too much about him since he was promoted to Birmingham. I saw him pitch this year for Winston-Salem, and he looked like he had a real good idea of how to pitch, and his stuff looked pretty good, too. Seems to me like his approach was somewhere between crafty(soft tossing) lefty, and here it comes, hit it if you can (threw pretty hard), and his off-speed pitches looked like they fooled a lot of batters. Can I get an opinion from our Baron fans about how he looked when he got there? Also, I sure am pulling for Jason Stumm to make it, because from all reports I've read about him, he sure has worked hard to regain prospect status.

I've been a Sox fan for many, many years, and I have seen a lot of good and bad things happen. So, I think I'll share two things which I rate equally as my favorite memories: 1. Being at the game in Baltimore when Wilson Alvarez pitched his no-hitter, and; 2. Having Britt Burns, who (whom?) I named my daughter after, hold her in his arms when she was 1 year old and pose for a picture for me.
