  1. If Justin Fields is a bust as some people insist he is (though I will say that the things they say about him are basically the same things they said about Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Josh Allen, and still say about Jackson and Hurts) they have enough future draft capital to move on and start over.

awful news man, been following it but I really have nothing to add but my condolences

I hate that I can't stop thinking and talking about it. I will be doing something else and then poof we are back to that again and I'm talking to some random person about him again.

  3. I was in town this weekend, going to hang out with my best friend I've had since I was 11 years old on Monday, only for his girlfriend to have to call me Monday morning to tell me he'd been murdered the night before. So that's been my week. Just devastated.

  4. I remember the '03 and '08 stretches he was talking about when he got booed, and I remember thinking especially in '08 that it was harsh, but also at the same time it was like ehhhhh he kinda sucks right now and he knows it more than anyone, he gets why he's getting booed

I think it's bullshit. Hit it where they ain't. The game evolves. For years a turnaround 15 foot post up jumper was a 'good shot" and now it's not. So what if "hitting it up the middle" worked for 100 years, you're paid to make adjustments as a pro.

Well if we're talking about basketball the NBA changed illegal defense rules (as others have brought up) and banned hand checking because the pace of play and scoring volume was too low and it was becoming a problem. That opened up perimeter play so that guys could drive to the basket more often and the versatile guys who could do that while still being good from long range started to shine more, and eventually coaches started to find better ways to score than the traditional ways.

Anyway my point here is that aesthetically, the discussion of banning the shift is basically the same thing, offenses are starting to get flat and dull, and they're trying to bring some life back into it. "The hitters need to adjust" isn't a real solution, if that was it, then guys would've done that already.

Plus he was 23 when he started dominating as a starting pitcher. Kopech, 26, in his 1st year of starting and there's still doubt if he will be fresh enough to pitch well in the playoffs. Sale gave the Sox 5 great years doing that.

Kopech is still in flavor of the moment mode. His future seems bright , no doubt , but time will tell.

Well in fairness to Kopech, between having Tommy John surgery and COVID he basically had 2 years ctrl+alt+deleted and it really was nobody's fault, otherwise he would've probably had that impact at age 23 also

I don't think you remember how stupid good prime Sale was.  Kopech has been amazing, but Sale did it for years.

That being said, the Sox dumped Sale at the perfect time before his arm started falling off.

I'm pro-OBP and I think they're somewhat linked that the fewer strikeouts you make, the more outs you make

The whole point of offense is to not make outs.

This isn't really true, an out is an out. A F9, 5-3, and a K all count the same. Sure if you have a guy on 3rd you want a F9 cuz it scores a run, but if you've got a runner on first and hit a ground ball to SS, that 5-3 is now a 5-4-3 and you'd have rather had the K.

That's not to say the way the out happened doesn't matter at all since every hitter has different tendencies, but I remember the days when people would complain about how often Jim Thome struck out when his OBP was like .400. I'd be much more concerned with low walk rates than high strikeout rates (of course the Sox have a glaring exception to this rule with Tim Anderson who always manages a mid-300s OBP despite striking out a fair amount and almost never walking).
