Imagine how Lions fans feel. But, at least they know they're going to suck. Bears always fall just short by blowing it on stupid plays or penalties.

The Bears aren't a laughingstock like the Lions or the Browns, they are a perpetually mediocre team that accidentally stumbles into respectability like every 5 years

  2. You know, the way people talk about DeRozan they make it sound like he is having an unexpected resurgence after he was lost in the woods playing for the Spurs and there's really nothing in his production that warrants that. Yes, he is playing some of the best ball in his career now, but in SA he was still easily averaging 20+ ppg, same volume, same FG% (actually better), same PER etc. Only difference that I can tell is his team wasn't winning.

  3. I thought the Bulls would get bullied in Denver (of those 2 games on the road trip I thought the GS and DEN games were ones where they had no shot). Caught a break with no Jokic, they took care of business. It's still a young season but they've since answered some of the questions from earlier in the season about their legitimacy.

    QFT.

Boras is right, usually is. Wish he was battling the owners instead of Tony Clark.

Every single word is true, though most here will instantly oppose it because Boras spoke the truth.

He's absolutely right about what the problem is here (as I said in my post above I didn't read his full comments in proper context until after I posted that tweet, which is a poor summary)

I miss the old Deadspin, they were all over how full of shit MLB management is

  5. Okay so my guess is Boras (because he is Boras) believes there is a competitive balance issue (he's right) but that the answer to that is allowing all teams to spend freely? That's not going to fix the issue - the tanking teams will just keep tanking and keep that money, like they do now

That the players the Braves got were only available because so many teams like the Royals had thrown in the towel before the season started. That the teams really trying to win are being screwed over by teams taking shortcuts like the Braves.

I actually read this story elsewhere after seeing that tweet - that tweet is not a good summary of the issue he was talking about at all because it is framed like he's faulting the Braves somehow.

This being Boras though, he's talking about big-market teams spending more money (he doesn't have to say it out loud, it's always implied). I do think that there are some teams that are not even trying to win while they're just cashing checks, and that does affect the competitive balance of the game, but I also don't think his focus here on draft spending limits is going to fix that.

  7. Probably as good a place as any to put this - Boras is objectively good at his job, but every time he speaks on something outside of that lane I wish he'd shut up. The Braves lost one of the best players in the game, they did good at the trade deadline, they got hot and played lights out in the playoffs, no mystery there. They've also made the playoffs 4 years in a row and he's talking about them like they're some moribound franchise

I've had some suspicions about Rodgers, but you could never really tell if he was being ironic or serious.

All he had to do was say, hey I thought I might be allergic to something in the vaccine, so I tried something else.  He would have gotten shit for it, but not too much.  Going off the rails and yelling about woke mobs and getting canceled (something only 70 years olds on Facebook call everything anymore) and saying you get medical advice from Joe Rogan, that is what made him look so dumb.

I actually this whole time had just kind of assumed he was a reasonably smart guy, and I don't know where I really got that perception from, but the more he talks the more he sounds like a stereotype. His statements today sound like he's doing some kind of performance art or like a teenager wrote an AI to do an impression that uses as many boilerplate talking points it can fit into one sentence.

  9. What DeRozan's game brings to this Bulls roster reminds me of what Rip Hamilton was supposed to bring to the 2011-12 Bulls, but then just gets me depressed thinking about it. Rip had an impeccable midrange game that would've been perfect as an outlet to keep teams (especially Miami) from focusing on Rose to shut him (and the whole offense by extension) down, since nobody else on the roster could create their own shot. This team doesn't seem to have any of those limitations offensively. Of course, we know it didn't work out that way, Rose and Hamilton hardly ever played together that season, and then it all came crashing down when the playoffs started.

I think with the new rules this year, DeRozan and his mid-range game benefit quite a bit just because the efficiency of the league goes down a bit without all the free points the refs were giving to the Trey Youngs and James Hardens of the league. Plus I think there's a lot of value in having a guy who's good in the mid-range late in games. Especially when the Bulls have had so many issues closing games last year. LaVine, as great as he is, really has not shown that he's a consistent 4th quarter scorer. DeMar brings stability to the team down the stretch.

What really bothered me with the DeRozan criticism from guys like Hollinger is that he's been an efficient offensive player over the past few years in SA. His TS% was almost .600 last year. It's not like he was scoring 20 points on 25 shots. You'd think he was Jalen Rose or Ron Mercer with the way some people ragged on him.

I think there's some legit concern that the refs will end up not calling actual contact by a defensive player, but I really like the rule changes and it's improved the product so defenders won't be spooked into challenging shots or getting in front of a guy driving to the hole. Seeing Harden twist his body towards a defender, bump him, hear no whistle, then awkwardly throw the ball up into the general direction of the rim instead of attempting to score is refreshing, it was probably padding his scoring average by 5-8 ppg just by cheesing the rule exploit. That was hard to watch, I think they took note in FIBA ball watching Team USA have a hard time adjusting to not getting those calls.

Bulls looked dead in the water today down 19 in the third. They're probably gonna win by double digits. Crazy how good this team is.

They were down big when I was following at work and they scored a few to get within about 11, I figured "oh, they're gonna make a respectable final score of it," went to the bathroom, checked the score on my way out to see they won by 14. WTF.

The Chiefs fans do the chop also. I personally don't like the chop. Grown people doing that seems silly and if it offends Native Americans should be eliminated IMO. Life's too short to go around offending people when it could easily be eliminated. I think somebody was saying KC Chiefs could just as easily switch to KC Chefs. Have a baker's hat be the logo.

Williams is just too timid right now. Hopefully it is something he can develop. Still very young.

At least once or twice a game he gets the ball in the corner for a wide open three with nobody within 10 feet of him, stare at the rim for a second, then attempt to dribble forward before passing
