QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) They are VERY important but I don't think community organizing does much to get you ready to be president. I didn't really like her mocking community organizers to be honest, but I think her point was that doesn't do anything to qualify you to be president, and I think that point is valid. They just kinda skipped over him being a state senator though and act like he was a community organizer, and only that, before he got elected to the US senate. It's become routine.

The Democrat Thread
A letter from someone who has known Sarah Palin since 1992 The more I find out about her the less I like her... I was really hoping I could like her, honestly.

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) That reminds me... has he always been that... ummm... pricky? He is one bitter betty that's for sure. Yes. I really hate his guts, seriously. To a borderline irrational degree.

Yeah that was a pretty cliche response. He mailed that one in.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) Even if you don't agree with a word of what she said, it was a very well executed speech. I thought so too. I can see the "charisma" they were talking about. But she reminded me of Hillary in a not-so-good way.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) The "Democratic nominee" thing is perfectly fine. That's how campaigns like these have often been done. In major speeches many candidates have flat-out refused to give much attention to their opponent by name. It's really not a big deal. I didn't have a problem with that. Obama mentions McCain's name mostly so he can say "Bush-McCain" deliberately. I guess I was expecting more here considering I don't know s*** about her.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) I know it's part of the job desription to keep peace and keep posters from crossing a line, but how was his statement borderline. two of McCains aides and three reporters reportedly heard him call his wife a c*** and a trollup (LOL) after she razzed him about his thinning hair. Commenting on that is off limits? Next we won't even be able to tell Cheney hunting accident jokes around here. . . sheesh. I didn't say it was over the top, but I'm taking the general tenseness of the thread into account and trying to keep the peace. That just invites a fight.

If you're a Republican you probably love it, for obvious reasons. But having said that, to be honest literally any Republican could've given that speech.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) lost already has it in his mind don't encourage him. I already made my "Disaster Ticket 2016" signs for him though I'll be 34 in 2016 unfortunately so you have to get Disaster Ticket 2020 signs.

Ok, I just cringed at the "and he is worried they aren't going to be read their rights" comment. What is she actually saying?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Other than the family intro, which i thought was a little long/unnecessary, I've been pleased with the speech so far. It's ok... only right now is she saying anything memorable though. She is talking about standing up to entrenched interests and restoring government which is what she needs to be doing. The first 10-ish minutes were forgettable.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) What DOES that mean? That he got people registered to vote? Doled out some campaign cash to steer votes a certain way? Set the agenda for a local tea party? Handled inner city issues, getting people jobs, access to healthcare, helping kids stay in school etc. basically addressing everyday problems in the inner city.

Sarah Palin
I really just want to hear Palin speak. I don't want to hear s*** that Rudy has to say. I turned on the TV thinking he was done and quickly turned it back off. Wake me up when Palin's talking.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) Theyre right, they mentioned specific factions like the taliban Al qaida and leader Bin Laden. If that's what was said, then that's different. But with radical Islam we're kind of talking about roaches on steroids here. They just won't go away.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) He said something to the effect that you never heard at the Dem convention a mention of radical islam... John McCain will defeat radical Islam. Not radical terrorists... radical Islam. Eh, that's about right. But it's kind of a stupid thing to say because it's not something you can "defeat." There is no "victory." You can't "surrender" to it, either.

Sarah Palin
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Um, which Palin said what? I read earlier a newsstory quoting the mother in law that she was considering not voting for Sarah, and then it listed the facts that she ran for mayor after Sarah left, and lost. The earlier story very well could have been wrong, I am just trying to figure out who said what in your text above. If it's her mother-in-law, it would mean it's her husband's mother, which would make her last name Palin, no?

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Let me see if I understand correctly... Iran ISNT a threat because of the geographic size of the land... Palin ISNT qualified to be VP despite being the Governor of the largest state in the Union size wise... Can someone say hypocrisy? ? this doesn't make sense. Red does not match the number 8, so I'm an idiot for driving my car 45 in a 50 mph zone.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) That's because 50% of the people on the Internet are below average. I just randomly said "50% of people are below average" out loud at work and got people bursting out laughing.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Which I think demonstrates that the onus of childrearing USUALLY (but not always) falls to the woman. Even in egalitarian relationships. (The NYT did a really fascinating article on this a couple of months ago. I've always wondered why, in custody battles, unless the woman is a completely incompetent dumbass like my brother's ex-wife, the woman almost always gets default custody rights?

Chicago Public School Boycott
I went to high school on 61st and Wolcott, not really in the greatest of neighborhoods. As unimpressive as it was (prior to the multi-million dollar renovations after I graduated) and as ghetto of a neighborhood it was in there was no vandalism issue.
