  1. I think Carlos Quentin's treatment will finally put the Ozzie latino bias bit to rest. It's not so much that he likes the latin guys--it's that he likes the wispy players who can run fast. Edit: I give it five posts before someone makes a distinction between Ozzie's treatment of American born latin players vs. central/South American.
  2. Scott Reifert's blog has been updated and says Lineup: Swisher, CF; Cabrera, SS; Thome, DH; PK, 1B; Dye, RF; AJ, C; Ramirez, CF; Crede, 3B; Uribe, 2B. Vazquez pitching. Yes, it has both Swisher and Ramirez playing CF.
  3. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I take back everything I said about not starting Thome opening day ! Yeah, no kidding.
  4. Didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this is a repeat. By the end of the season, if not sooner, fans will be clamoring for an outfield of Swisher-Anderson-Quentin. Dye will have a lousy season and the Sox won't be able to dump him.
  5. Oh my. I figure Alexei is the Sox' fourth-best centerfielder, defensively.
  6. QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) How old is he? Like 16? 21. And he OPSed .319 in rookie league.
  7. QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) is he in the system or is this really just for fun? As real as a heart attack. He had a few rookie league ABs last season and didn't do anything.
  8. QUOTE(Want2Repeat @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) I don't get this. I guess I can live with the notion of Swisher batting leadoff, but how does he start in CF, vs. LF, with BA and Ramirez, who both would play the position better. I'm not sure that Ramirez would. I think he has the arm, but doesn't make great reads. Admittedly, I've seen very little.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) Swisher is TERRIBLE in CF. He's no different than Mackowiak was out there. You're wrong, at least as far as the stats go. 2.66 RF .839 ZR -Swish career in CF 2.27 RF .801 ZR -Mack career in CF For comparison's sake: 2.83 RF .885 ZR-BA So Swish is squarely between Mack and BA.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) If Anderson is in the lineup with Swisher, and Anderson is playing LF, Ozzie deserves all the abuse he gets. BA had 24 innings of LF in 2006 and 11 in 2007. It didn't make any more sense then.
  11. Glad he's leading off. I wonder if Quentin or Anderson will play LF. If Anderson were to play he'd play CF, right? Who knows--last year Ozzie put Erstad in center and Anderson in left a couple times.
  12. Just for fun I looked to see if Omar Infante ever had a spring training like Alexei's. Sure enough, his 2006 ST was quite similar--although with fewer XBHs.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Even though Ramirez has earned a spot on the roster, Ozzie and KW have said numerous times that he's still raw, and that they want him for a utility role. That wouldn't necessarily prevent him from starting in CF on opening day, though.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Anderson will be starting on Opening Day. And I think they said Thome would bat 5th against lefties, with Swisher 3rd, so... Are you sure it will be Anderson and not Ramirez? I hope you're right.
  15. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Ya know some hitters actually do better against the regular pitchers they will see once the season begins. Some hitters stuggle against the plethora of no name young fireballs constantly being thrown out there in Spring. I have a feeling Dye does better against pitchers he is more familair with, watch him light up CC, Bonderman, Rogers, etc once the season starts. FWIW (probably very little), Dye had traditionally hit quite well in spring training: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/D/jermaine-dye.shtml Dye hasn't exactly been the model of consistency over his career and it's hard to know what we're going to get from him.
  16. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) he seemed pretty good with the bat when he was with Minnesota and they palyed Interleague games. I know, small sample. But some Twins commentors on blogs half joked that Johan should be DHing the days he wasn't pitching instead of having Jason Tyner DH .258 career average in 30 some ABs. Not bad.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Have MacDougal start the year as the garbage man. His arm might fall off.
  18. Career numbers vs. NL (someone tell me if my math is off) 142 IP, 31 ER = 1.95 ERA
  19. You know his arm must be in lousy shape if the METS backed off. They love broken down, once-great pitchers.
