  1. That's terrible. BA's left/right splits are pretty much even this year. He's got a .900 OPS in June. Ugh.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) Fields, Cook, and Eldred are all the same all or nothing plodders that we have a line up full of already. Give me someone who will swing for a basehit with two strikes, or punch the outside pitch the other way, just to change the look of the line up a bit. Is Cook really a plodder? Have you seen him play--or what are you basing this on? Seems like he had some speed earlier in his career (although not a great SB percentage). Just because he's a power hitter doesn't make him "all or nothing."
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) I was listening to K C Johnson the other morning, and he was saying that Beasley measured out at around 6'7" 1/2 at one of the workouts he has been to so far. There is a whole lot of 6'7" Forwards in the league He plays bigger, though, because he has long arms. His stand and reach was on par with Joakim Noah's.
  4. Dye is around his career average numbers. No reason to group him with the others. This is, in fact, his middle ground.
  5. Would it be out of the question to call Cook up?
  6. This lineup blows. It was once said that alexei can plau cf like my ass can chew gum. I guess cq must be banged up. Sox need another backup outfielder.
  7. I saw in the box score that Beckham had a CS and was picked off.
  8. Boone shaved his powerful beard. That's why he gave up that hit.
  9. Anyone else think BA has lost a step in the field? Not that he should've had that double, but he looks to have gained 10 pounds or so since 2006. I think that's helped his hitting, but his range factor is way down. I'm not sure that he gets to the gaps as well as he used to (I'm a huge BA fan, btw).
  10. So is this type of mid-season reshuffling fairly common, or could this be the comeuppeance from what Bureau was talking about before? (Players unfairly benched, etc).
  11. There's a reason you won't hear that from the mainstream media. It would be a pretty silly thing for them to report. To say, for instance, that he's leading in MI because of a single poll that gave him a 3 point edge there would be somewhat presumptuous Obama has a narrow national lead in most polls--that is something worth reporting. I like RCP maps a bit better, since they average polls: (not counting toss-up states) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ma...bama_vs_mccain/ (counting toss-ups) http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ma..._mccain/?map=10

  13. Anyone know a site with split fielding stats (by month, inning, etc.) for individual players?
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) That's just it. I think that direct rebates like that should be for pretty dire circumstances, and only if the government is in a good financial position to do so. When Bush did his first one just after 9/11, that was perfect - there was a budget surplus, a single staggering event had rocked the economy, and something needed to be done. This most recent one, I think was a bad idea - the government is too far in deficit, and we are fighting two wars, not to mention that I don't think the economy is in as much need for it. The slide has been gradual. A new round of rebate checks is just as bad an idea, IMO. Woah, woah, woah. Revisionist history. He did not do his first tax rebate check after 9/11. It was a campaign promise and the bill was signed June 2001. Checks went out in August.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) I caught this fairly interesting piece on the "Combo Guard" a couple weeks back and I think it fits here (does show Hinrich on their scale). Basically, the thesis of the author is that most guards these days other than Nash and Kidd fall pretty squarely in the "Combo Guard" category, where they're either taking a good number of shots on their own or are pass first people. Read it, hard to explain in toto. I know that the consensus is that Rose will be similar (but maybe better) than Deron Williams or Chris Paul. However, I see his number one skill as exlpoding to the basket and finishing. With that said, I think his game could end up most like AI's. I realize that their body types are very different, but I see Rose getting to the hoop (and to the line) a lot.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Why would you count the unqualified? Because...because I wanted to!
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) WRONG Let's capitalize on the error, boys! Not wrong at all. It just depends on whether you count the "unqualified" pitchers or not. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitchi...d=a&pos=all
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) I am lazy and too busy to look... how many SPs in the AL have a ERA better than Danks? Danks doesn't crack the top 10 and Contreras is currently ahead of him, but several of the guys ahead of him have only pitched a few games.
  19. Averaging 27,493, 19th in MLB. That would project out to 2.2 million for the year, but I'm sure averages will go up during the summer if the Sox keep winning.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) Griffey isn't really a CF anymore. Although, I like how you're trying to remind us of '05. Admirable. Looks like the last time he played there was 2006. I would wager that Konerko and Swisher would both put up better numbers than Griff for the rest of the season.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 05:54 AM) I'd still rather have Fields, but his suckage at AAA this year is a bit worrisome. Fields is just a backup plan for this season with the way Crede is playing. That said, your characterization of his season is unfair. He's raking so far in June and his OPS for the season is .846. He started slowly in Charlotte last year, too.
  22. AJ could've been safe if he had spent less time looking back.
  23. I'm a Jayhawk fan, but I'm not sure how much NBA game Chalmers will have. I guess he could be similar to Duhon--good defense with the occasional scoring outburst (although probably a better scorer than Du).
