8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
I actually kind of like Flowers. That wasn't a great at-bat, but he's got some patience, can hit the ball hard to all fields, and looks alright behind the plate (good arm, needs some blocking work). He's a good bench catcher, and if he can ever cut down on the strikeouts a little bit, he has a chance to be a starter.

8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) If we don't make it by the end of the month, I think we'll overtake them during the Labor Day weekend series.I like your style.

8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Probably because it's Duensing on the mound, so bunting off Perkins would be difficult. They're the same pitcher, basically, so I'm still sort of right. Also, it's the vicodin talking right now.

8/7 Gamethread Sox vs Twins
We are hammering Perkins this inning. Not sure why Lillibridge is squaring around. ...oh, that's why. Sigh.

I love bunting in the 3rd inning.

7/31 - Red Sox vs White Sox
Boston is a good team. It's no surprise losing 2 of 3 to them.

Tiggers @ Sox 7/27/11 Gamethread (1:10 CT)
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Why these one batter saves for Santos? Either you trust the vato or notEspecially since you know Leland is just going to pinch hit for the righty, negating that advantage. I don't think Guillen costs us as much as some people do (this team just can't hit AT ALL), but he's not a good manager.

Tiggers @ Sox 7/27/11 Gamethread (1:10 CT)
I wonder if Guillen is surprised that the Tigers are walking Konerko after the sac bunt? I doubt anyone else is... Hopefully Dunn's getting back on track and he'll make them pay.

Colby Rasmus Trade Rumor
If the Cardinals want to sell low on Rasmus that's fine with me. Even his current mediocre season is better than what we're getting from 2/3rds of our outfield (yes I know Pierre is hitting but he still doesn't walk, hit for any power, or steal bases). I'm guessing if Rasmus goes, it might be to try to keep LaRussa.

7-20: Sox (47-50) vs. Royals (39-58); 7:10; CSN
For anyone complaining about the pitching, we've scored 1 run tonight, with like 3 hits, and 3 double plays. Pitching is not our problem.

It is sooooo hot...
It is so hot that the heat index is over 100 degrees. This is a very dangerous situation and many old people will die.

7/19 GT: Sox @ Royals, 7:10pm
We have a shot at this division if we can score more than 2 or 3 runs a game. Even with offense down around the league, that's just not going to cut it.

How valuable is SLG when evaluating leadoff?
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) Leadoff men only have guys on base in 36-37% of their plate apperances. Most of that comes from leading off the game (20% of your PAs to begin with), but having a power hitter there kind of wastes his ability to drive in runs with that power.Giving a guy on your team with lots of power the most at-bats is never a bad idea.

fire walker
I was curious if the Sox hitters were really as bad at pitch selection and recognition as it seems. I bet there's a way to see how many times a player swung at a ball out of the zone, but I have no idea how to find that. What I did find, though, was that the league average for pitches per plate appearance is 3.81. The Sox team average is 3.67. If you take Dunn and Konerko out of there, it's way worse -- our leadoff hitter is at 3.41 P/PA.

7/5 Sox v. Royals
Wow, Quentin looks really bad. I wonder what's going on with him?

Sox scouting Brandon Beachy
Unless there's some secondary trade that will bring us more offense, or we can get rid of Rios, we don't improve our team in this deal at all. Trading Quentin, especially for pitching, is a bad idea. I'm guessing this won't go anywhere.

Sox/Royals 7/4 - Sox gain independence from being under .500
Dunn saw the balk as well. It was pretty clear-cut. I would've agreed if it was a Sox player as well.

Sox/Royals 7/4 - Sox gain independence from being under .500
3-0 Royals now. Feels like 10-0. I wish we had some offense.

Peavy "Time to dump nice guy attitude"
I agree with Peavy on this one. It's definitely a mindset they need to have. Coming to the park ready to kick some ass, and never giving up, is going to make comebacks easier. Saying "we'll get 'em tomorrow" puts you in a bad place mentally. I bet a lot of the flatness and boring baseball we see would go away.
