  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) They flat out gave this game away As part of the ACC initiation process, you are required to pull a Clemson before you are a full fledged member. I think they earned their membership tonight.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 04:07 PM) I had a dream last night that ILL won this weekend 20-7 Come on, it'll be 28-21 of course.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Yes but aside from closer, our bullpen has been rotten for a long long time. Think of all the lousy relievers the Sox have had since winning the WS cept for closer. And now there is no viable closer either. When the Sox won the World Series, they had two lousy relievers as set-up guys too, they just happened to find some pixie dust that year.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) I wonder if they just want Raanta playing everyday or something. That's very possible, but if so, why didn't he just start the season in the minors?
  5. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) That's gotta be a reflection of all the action they're getting because of the hire, not an actual belief that their likelihood of winning increased that much. The Cubs odds are always much lower than they should be, because so many more people bet on them for fun than any other team.
  6. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Scott Darling again tonight, he's finally going to get a shut out, I know it. If he does, then Raanta will be moving to Rockford. Crawford is the back-up today, and they won't carrying 3 goalies this weekend.
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) Speaking of a "run of domination" (one which, btw, has never occurred during the 34 year tenure of the Reinsdorf ownership group), the Sox ought to really start thinking of doing what it takes to go on one, and sooner rather than later. With the Chicago National League Ballclub starting to awaken from it's slumber, what with the signing of Maddon as manager, the $525M in renovations happening to their ballpark this winter, the coming-of-age of a whole slew of blue chip prospects, and the talks of being big spenders in free agency, they could realistically be on the verge of becoming a real powerhouse in baseball. And if and when that happens, it will be near impossible for the White Sox to win over any "casual" baseball fan in the city, what with the kind of press coverage we all know the Cubs will inevitably get if they do become good/very good again. That's not good for an organization that is already at the bottom of the barrel in terms of overall fan interest, as indicated in it's abysmal attendance and TV ratings. With that said, I truly do believe this to be as crucial an offseason as any in recent memory for Mr. Hahn & Co. in terms of doing what it takes to get out in front of what really looks to be a force to be reckoned with soon on the north side of town. It doesn't matter if the Cubs win 100 games or lose 100 games. Time has shown us that there is only way for the Sox to become relevant in Chicago. Win playoff series. That's it. This town has enough casual fans to support both teams, the Sox just don't have the allure the Cubs do when they aren't in the playoffs.
  8. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Can someone please explain to me why (other than arguably deserved media slurping) Mad Bum was briefly credited with last night's "win?" I think the rules are absolutely clear that it should have gone to Affeldt who pitched 2+ shut out innings and was the pitcher of record when SF took the lead for good. In that scenario, there is no room for the official scorer discretion that can enter the picture when a starter doesn't go 5. Joe Buck can sometimes be an idiot, but after first acknowledging MB's "5 inning save," he later announced "word from the official scorer" that he was credited with the W. Later, ESPN announced a "scoring change" giving it to Affeldt. WTF? I think the official scorer got caught up in the Bumgarner hype. The official scorer can only make the change on pitcher of record, if the pitcher was "ineffective in a brief appearance" according to the official rule. Affeldt was neither ineffective nor brief, so he obviously deserved the win.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) I'm not sure Gordon makes it, but that would have been an exciting way to end the season or keep it going. Given Perez's inability to lay off the high fastball, hoping for an errant throw by the SS may have been a more likely outcome than a base hit.
  10. From Deadspin: No, Alex Gordon could not have scored on the misplayed ball
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 06:57 AM) I would say the team that has won 3 of the last 5 World Series is a bit more of a juggernaut than the team that got hot in September. You can't argue with 3 World Series in 5 years, but nobody will confuse the Giants with the late 90s Yankees. They never even won 95 games and they missed the playoffs in '11 and '13. They just do know how to get done in the crapshoot that is October.
  12. It ain't that easy to replace 227 innings of 3.27 ERA starting pitching. Especially when you only won 89 games and your unhittable bullpen is due for natural baseball regression. Shields has been a better Buehrle since 2007, while his age is worrisome, he's not that easily replaceable
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 11:05 PM) A ring for Dan Uggla Life is good. No way. He played four games and got dropped, does he really get a ring ?
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 10:37 PM) If I had to pick one signature moment of this Series, it has to be Panik's double play. Other than that, this was all Bumgarner. Great performance. God damn Reds just had to win one game out of three at home in 2012. Now we're stuck with the even year thing for the next couple years. Can you imagine if Jeter made that play? QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) Well the Giants were certainly not the decade, I'd agree. I think this was a fabulous World Series, it was very exciting and was a fitting end to an exciting playoffs for MLB. I'm sad it had to end. It's funny because every AL series was a sweep, this was the only game 7 (or LDS game 5) yet the playoffs were exciting. This Chevy MVP presentation is brutal.
  15. Official scorer gave Madison the win instead of the save, 3-0, 21 IP, 1 ER, wow. I feel bad for KC fans, they deserve a title, but seeing Hosmer sulk and be upset made me remember why I rooted for the Giants. (see greg's post above) Bulldog Peavy has won two World Series since leaving the White Sox, what a leader in the clubhouse!
  16. Perez just loves that high heat, can't lay off it
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 10:04 PM) Madison or Casilla in the 9th? Leave Madison in, but have Casilla and maybe even Javy Lopez warming up. If the Giants hold on, that Panik glove toss DP will be just as important as Bum G.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) Is Bum better than Sale? World Series Bumgarner? Yes Regular season Bumgarner? Not a chance
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) Next year Ha, he is straight dealing. Even if KC were to come back and win this game, he almost still deserves MVP honors in a losing effort.
  20. I think Bumgarner is giving up at least 2 runs, just a hunch.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) Bumgarner warming. And for the 28th time, the announcers let us know that when he warms up, he is coming in, no doubt.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) Seems like Herrera and Wade Davis are finally running out of gas. I think Yost may have slightly over pitched Herrera in these playoffs and World Series, but can't fault him for bringing him in now.
  23. I think I might actually be able to root for the Royals if Hosmer and Moustakas were somehow demoted to Omaha before the game.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) Jake sucked. It didn't matter because the Giants never scored. I'd imagine the rest of the game may have played out differently had it been a one or two run game, not a 7+ run lead.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) Hawks are stupid good this year. Might be their best team yet in this era. For the record, Hawks are 1-3 with 7 goals scored in 4 games since this post
