  1. If this game gets to extra innings, does Dunn pitch the 10th or do you trust another bullpen scrub again?
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Crowd is WILD haha All 1200 on their feet screaming
  3. Weak sauce by Beltre. He could have swing the bat at the first 3 pitches, have some fun out there.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) Is this pen worse than 2007? According to FanGraphs, the Sox bullpen ERA this year was 4.33 before today I assume. In 2007 it was 5.49! So we still may have a ways to go.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Hopefully they are all getting outof theirsystem in one game. I know, wishful thinking. Or the second time in 3 games
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) Danks is hitting that, most innings pitched in the last 3 years area. The sox need to hope that its just building his arm up and he will continue to improve. Otherwise it's going to be along 2 years. That's what I was hoping, but he is already at 45 starts since the injury and over 275 innings. At some point you need to see some results to have any confidence in a rebound.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) Yeah, you're potentially on the hook for every single contract on every guy that you claim, so teams have to prioritize, and I guess nobody else prioritized lefty relief. That explains why Washington got the claim, but it still doesn't make a lot of sense that the Yankees just let him go. From what I have read, apparently they have several young lefties in the minors they really like and may bring up to replace him. (Although at this point they just called up Rich Hill). Also, that saves them $4 million and an open roster spot in 2015.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Yeah this board voted 36-6 against trading Danks for Santiago. Lulz. Don't understand the love affair with Danks here. From 2008-2011 Danks was pretty damn solid and consistent. Given his age and track record, I hoped he could get back close to his old self after getting all his strength back post injury, that would make him worth his contract. Obviously that hasn't happened and his contract is dead weight, but I think that's people have given him the benefit of the doubt.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) Danks FIP by month: 4.14, 5.27, 4.78, 5.10 Oh, and for now August is 15.14...but he's only thrown one inning so we'll let him work on that a little bit more. My general point is that outside of having an okay April, he's been bad all year. His hot streak was a mirage I fell for the mirage. If he keeps this up, he's not even a #5 on a good team.
  10. The Yankees are one game out of the 2nd wild card and are always in win-now mode. Why would they give up their best LH reliever just to save $4 million?
  11. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) He will end up with Cubs If the pitching starved Rockies don't claim him first, they get first dibs.
  12. "The New Monsters of the Midway" Awesome Grantland article previewing the Bears and their offensive weapons
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) Someone will need to pitch. That's what Edwin Jackson's for!
  14. This is from four years ago on MLB Trade Rumors (ugh):
  15. Given that Bennett was suspended indefinitely, it makes me think there is something more going on other than this one fight.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) I believe it can. I could have swore that when the Sox claimed Rios, his NTC didn't matter. (Not sure if the Sox were on it or not)
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) I don't think a NTC can block a waiver claim. I don't think the Phillies will let him go for nothing on waivers, so then technically wouldn't it be trade?
  18. I think it would be easier to find a hitter close to Abreu's level than a pitcher close to Sale's level. I vote Sale.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) I don't think we want to go for a full-time DH at this point, especially not in a guy we'd feel attached to. I think we need to try to acquire more outfielders and platoon/rest them in that spot. The A's are proving that carrying four above average, non-star outfielders creates a ton of flexibility in terms of optimizing matchups and covering injury contingency. I support this idea x100
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 06:57 AM) All this fretting over the bullpen when all we need to do is schedule games to start 2:15 before it starts raining. It will be like the 2005 ALCS all over again. Nothing but complete games (only lasting 6 or 7 innings, but that's irrelevant)
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) He has been top 10 in the MVP vote 5 times, and he is one of the greatest fielding 3b of all time. Should have well over 400 homers. Ithink he is if he can stay clear of steroid talk. I don't trust he has been clean his whole career. Yeah, the defense is a huge plus, my initial hunch would be to say yes he is. But that weird career arc offensively could turn some voters off or lead to steroid speculation?
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) Its one of the best questions in baseball. I've literally seen legit 50/50 cases on him. I would put him in, but I can see legit arguments on why he isn't as well. Other than his monster free agent year, he wasn't really that great of a hitter until age 31.
  23. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) That didn't take long It was like they were rushing to get this game official even though they are losing
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) I have a hard time blaming that one on Jose I wouldn't have thought to on first glimpse, but they did have a point in criticizing the toss. Either way though, I like that Odor kid.
