  1. Actually closing our shop tomorrow, which is rare.  Plan on being open Thursday, but the morning temps look just as bad as Wednesday.  At least it will get into the negative single digits by the afternoon.

Maybe $350 million over 10 with an opt out somewhere, perhaps 4 years so that its the year right after the lockout? What do you think? If I was in Lozano's chair that would have been close to my initial ask.

That may not have signed him on day 1, but it would have closed the deal in 2018.

So 5 years down the road we don't have to sell off our players again because we gave half a billion to one guy

Again? The reason they were sold off the first time was because the front office couldn't put together a talented roster around them. If that happens again, then no free agent will help anyway.

If the $500 million guy helps you win,  then maybe you wont sell off any players.

I’m just generally curious at the people who say “The Sox have been sitting on their hands, this should have been over weeks ago!”

So you just want the Sox to pay Lozano’s ransom, whatever the cost may be, because you want Machado on your favorite baseball team? That is such an unrealistic stance I can’t really take it that seriously.

    Yes. How is that unrealistic?

It's not my money, it's the rich owners money, who isnt spending it on any other players anyway. In todays game, it's rare for players like Machado and Harper to hit free agency at their age. It's the best chance the Sox will ever have to acquire such a talent in their prime, at a time when their young players are getting very close to being viable major leaguers.  If there is any time to overpay, it is now.

Don't worry, it will warm up Super Bowl Sunday. My co-worker had some Southwest vouchers he couldn't use, so he gave them to me, and I am heading to South Florida Super Bowl Sunday with 3 buddies for 5 days. All we had to pay for our roundtrip flights  was $40 in tax. But since I am going, no way it doesn't warm up nicely here. You are all welcome.

Are 2 of your buddies named Yonder and Jon?  Is this a business trip to woo a Mr. Machado? 😆

  6. I think my biggest pet peeve is the massive drop in temperatures after every measurable snowfall.  I hear about a city like Denver where it snows a bunch, then two days later it's in the 50s or 60s.  Here you get some snow, you can enjoy it for 24 hours, then it's unbearably cold for the next week, every freaking time.  Then it takes two months to melt too.

Dodgers Stadium at night the ball doesn't carry very well. Hopefully, several of those flyouts find their way to the first or second row at GRF.

In recent memory, is there a hitter the Sox have acquired who has actually seen an increase in offensive numbers due to the ballpark?  I feel like we always hear, "wait until he gets to hit at the Cell", and then nothing changes.

  8. At 6 AM today I saw a dude going for a run outside.  Are you crazy?  The guy had to get in a fight with his wife or something and the only way to prove he was right was going for that run.

What I still don't get is the separation between Bonds, Clemens and Sosa. Why is Sammy 50 percent points behind them? If those 2 are HOF material,  why isn't Sammy?

Full disclosure I would be thrilled if none gets in, but more curious about why the difference.

Bonds:164.4 fWAR (2nd all time behind Ruth)

Clemens: 133.7 fWAR (most all time for pitchers)

    Sosa: 60.1 fWAR

Let's all be honest and say if it was your team, none of you would be "moving on".  This is a big time missed call and is the reason the Saints and Brees probably never see a Super Bowl again/for a long time.

You mean if Hue Hollins called a foul on Scottie Pippen even though he didnt even touch Hubert Davis and that ruined the Bulls chance at a 4 peat? Are you saying I would still complain about that absolutely  ridiculously horrendous call 25 years later?

He was teammates with Arod, Giambi, Melky, Clemens, Pettitte, Ivan Rodriguez, Cano, Sheffield, probably more proven or suspected users.

Ok, fine, you convinced me, add Mussina to the suspected PED list.  In reality,  anybody who played in the steroid era is fair game thanks to Bud Selig.

It's just unfortunate that the HOF has been ruined by voters who choose their steroid candidates by personality off the field. Unless they shock us all and dont vote David Ortiz in.

Mussina won 20 games in his final season at age 39, his highest total of his career.  Is there suspicion there?

Not really, but that's not much of a comparable situation given the year they took place, the players history and the team involved.
