I'm surprised Halladay is getting that high vote %; he really wasn't better than Mussina and Mussina struggled to get in. Glad to see those 4 make it.
A tragic young death always plays a part when human emotion is in play, that definitely helped his %.

There's something wrong with the Brewers stadium not being named after a beer.

What is the possibility that Machado has already signed with the Sox, but that both sides have agreed not to disclose it? There are several possible reasons to withhold the information:
1) It could provide better bargaining leverage for the Sox, in their efforts to acquire other pieces, for a competitive run at the Division, this year.
2) It could keep the Phillies from making a desperate offer for Harper, as the only "whale" left, in this year's free agent market. That would give the Sox a chance to make a trade with the Dodgers (Pederson), who may have interest in Harper, but would need to clear an outfield spot and salary, for him. This would keep the price for Harper down, as it would be perceived that there were still two "whales" available, in the free agency market, as opposed to just one. It would be to Manny's advantage not to disclose the deal, as well, because it helps the his new team acquire more pieces.
3) It is possible, but not likely, that there is some interest to maximize the announcement's publicity impact, related to Sox Fest, or the sports news cycle. I doubt any of that, but some may have a different opinion.
Would such withholding of the contract's announcement even be permissible, or would it be in violation of the C.B.A.? These are all merely questions. I have no idea.
I would imagine your #2 bullet point is a main reason why it's likely not permissible by the C.B.A. The last thing the players union wants is a player's salary being depressed by the withholding of another's player's contract. But the CBA is very long so I can't try to find it right now.

Hawks now have the worst record in the league while Patrick Kane is still putting up insane numbers.
And Toews is having a big year by his standards. Should that give us hope that they may have another playoff run in them if the rest of the roster is improved? Or is it bad news that they can play so well and yet the team is in the cellar?

Still in awe of that blown DPI in the Saints game.
I am thoroughly enjoying the honestness of the Rams regarding the play. Robey-Coleman just said "Hell yeah that was PI" after watching the replay. And the IG post from Gurley. https://www.instagram.com/tg4hunnid/p/Bs4I6bogzDf/

10 days ago the Rams and Cowboys were going to play each other. And you're making fun of me for being excited that one of my favorite teams is making the Super Bowl?
I assume you're not as stupid as you're coming off right now. I hope. Maybe as a moderator you should know better than to randomly starting picking fights?
Be less bitter.Sorry that sports are so serious to you that you can't find the humor in all of this.
Don't worry, 300 million Americans are hopping on the Rams bandwagon the next two weeks so clear off some room.

It's funny how much it upsets some of you people that I like 2 teams. Lmao
Upset? Not at all. Just amused to see an adult follow sports like my 8 year old nephew.
10 days ago you weren't sure if you would root for the Rams in their first playoff game, yet today was the most intense game of your fandom. You be you man.

RAMS GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!! YESSS!!!!!!
I didn't expect to be so geeked out of my mind for that game. I can't even imagine how my body will react to the White Sox making the World Series again after how I felt during the end of that Rams game.
Ugh, please bring on the Chiefs.
I'm impressed with how quickly you got over your favorite team Dallas losing last week.

While the penalty sucks, why the hell did Payton not run the ball on all 3 of those downs? They'd have the lead, less than a minute and no time outs left for the Rams. Ridiculous calling there.
100% agree with that, the Rams would have had 40 less seconds to drive down the field, though Brees blew that throw. McVay also had some questionable clock management at the end too.
But if they call that obvious PI, Saints have a chip shot attempt with 4 seconds on the clock

That missed pass interference penalty is gonna be talked about.for years in NOLA, such a bad call that screwed them over

This game makes me despise Cody Parkey more. Neither team looks impressive to me.
Both of these teams were amazing in October and November then just haven't looked nowhere near as good.

It's almost like the smartest coach in NFL history didn't practice a silent count before a playoff game in the Superdome.
For Gurley's sake I hope he is hurt because he looks bad.

With Pederson I think it clearly is yes though. He’s also only 26. He may still either make his strength better or mitigate his weaknesses.
I dont disagree, I wouldn't mind him. Just from my original comment, I can see a lot of the board quickly frowning upon him after watching him at the plate for a month or two.

Worth noting though wouldn’t he have had like the second highest OBP on our team last year still?
Yes, very true. Two different questions though. Is he a good player? Is he better than what the Sox currently have? Unfortunately the answer to both isnt always yes.

He’s only struck out in ~20% of his plate appearances over the last two seasons.
Wow, you're right. His batting average is still crap so I assumed he was still striking out like crazy. Getting rid of the strikeouts hasn't helped him get on base anymore though.
-
A lot of people on this board hate guys who just strike out or hit homers. Welcome to Soxtalk, Joc Pederson!

Jeez, Buster Olney is nothing but a mouthpiece anymore, zero reporting or insight. And I bet they could hire 3-5 actual good reporters for whatever salary hed getting.

What if the Phillies sign him for 15 years at $1 billion.
Then the Sox should have offered 15 years, $1,000,000,001. Easy breezy.

At what AAV will people NOT riot if Machado signs with someone else? Would 8 years/$304M ($38M AAV) be enough to where people draw the line on thinking it's too much? 10 yrs/$360M??
Just curious what type of winning offer from some other team wouldn't cause everyone to riot. Or do we sign Manny at all costs?
We sign Manny (or Harper) at all costs.
The payroll is zero, the owner is rich, and the roster is ready for a superstar.
Zero excuses.

After an unexplainable stretch of good hockey, the Hawks are back on form and in the lead again for Jack Hughes and/or Kaapo Kakko.
