Heading to Providenciales in a few weeks. I posted it awhile ago but no one has ever seemed to have been there. It should be pretty awesome.

I read that you thought Providence was gonna be so awesome, so I re-read it and realized it wasn't Rhode Island you were talking about. 😃

Turks and Caicos is on our short list for the wife's 40th trip next year, it looks amazing.

Maybe Im reading this incorrectly, but are you saying that if JR gets involved the Sox arent getting one?

Because Id say the opposite, the only way the Sox sign Machado or Harper is if JR is involved.

I know that JR will be involved at some level, he has to be.  I just think that it is a situation where the sports team has to take priority over the bottom line/negotiating and he's never ever been that type of owner.

I feel as if the White Sox NEED to sign one of these two players, even if you give up more than usual at the bargaining table.  I question how much JR is willing to give up, he's not about that life.

Mr. Reinsdorf is a self made billionaire and arguably the most powerful man in sports.   He didn’t get there by accident.  He is a shrewd but fair negotiator and admires the same.   This isn’t  bad development it just shows how big this is.

The more JR gets involved, the less likely it is Machado or Harper signs with the Sox.  I don't think there's any arguing that.

Playoff losses are tough.  The close game one's are the worst.

At least in MLB/NHL/NBA it's a longer series so there are more ups and downs but it can still be more fulfilling, even in a loss.  In the NFL, you get so excited about your season and then it suddenly all comes down to 3 hours.

The "Sox are pissing off fans by negotiating" takes are laughable.

When you have an owner who is well known for being cheap and valuing image and loyalty over winning, that's what happens. Its years of frustration boiling over, not this one negotiation

  6. I think this situation is very reflective of MLB's current labor issues.  While Murray is a top 10 pick, he's lucky to have been offered the $4 million signing bonus.  After that, a player in his position probably won't earn a million dollar salary until his 3rd or 4th season in the majors and that's after how many years it takes him to move through the minor leagues.  It's so slanted in favor of the teams and it's why they have such little incentive to sign  older free agents, when they have so much control over these younger player.  it's also why players are so quick to sign those early team-friendly extensions, because they have to wait to so long to get paid, which makes it riskier and riskier.

So there is some team that willingly skipped Manny's "free agency tour," managed to keep their interest from leaking to the media or their fans, and is now ready to drop a $250 mil + offer on Manny?  I don't buy it.

Yes, it happens all the time.

So are the top 4 teams just this good or is the bye and home field really this important? The Chargers and Colts looked absolutely dominant last week and they have been absolutely dominated themselves this weekend.

Well the 3 teams that won so far didn't have to face Big D**k Nick, that's the most important factor.

It’s a ton of money, but money he will never spend. I don’t blame players for taking the highest offer, but at some point, it all becomes the same in really. I get parents want to leave their kids on easy street. But you also want them to be useful members of society. Manny should hav plenty to leave his kids. Right now it is about records and ego which is fine.

You haven't been following recent pro athletes at all, have you? Plenty of lost at all and some by what seemed to be smart conservative business decisions.

Whatever happened to the "I just want to do whatever I can to make this team better" attitude? We don't know that Manny has insisted upon playing SS, but if he has, then I agree that it is troublesome. It not only hurts the team, but demonstrates a selfish attitude. If Machado recognizes that he is a better defensive third baseman, than a short stop and yet, still insists upon playing there, perhaps to enhance his chances for the Hall of Fame, then maybe we should be focused upon Harper.

Many here have insisted that Machado provides more WAR, than Harper, by virtue of his glove at 3RD, versus Harper's poor outfield defense. The last thing that this young team needs is an Antonio Brown type prima donna. Hey, Mr. Machado,  Just take the money and dedicate yourself to helping this young core to become champions. Maybe having both Jay and Alonso around to keep his head on straight, will prove to be more valuable than having helped to acquire him.

Meh.  Like I said in my earlier post, one of the most glorified HOfers in MLB history, the greatest team player ever refused to give up the SS position when his team signed a clearly superior shortstop yet everything worked out fine.
