  1. Engel doesn't play other positions, is all I mean. Leury, Mendick and Vaughn are the other guys.

I think they will stick with the extra pitcher until (1) they acquire someone from outside the org or (2) Kopech comes back. Whichever comes first.

Eaton has been absolutely dreadful, Sox need to upgrade RF more than they need to upgrade 2B.

When he's healthy, he's still good, but his legs are pretty much toast at this point, so he's only healthy for short periods between IL stints. Maybe he should be used for more DH duty going forward.

Hahn decision is easy. If Rodon finishes the year strong and plays well in postseason you sign him to a 3 year deal. No one is giving him more than that. You re-sign Lynn to a short deal and revisit in 2 years. It's not like we need to sign big name FA's at this point. So let the raises eat up more cap and roll forward.

It's really going to be a tough decision. You know the Sox will cry poor, so I expect one extension and one QO.

  4. With a very good team and more certainty (ie not a shortened / COVID lockdown season) I am sure he will be more active. As far as what kinds of moves are made, i'm sure he'll give his same speech about "the long term vision for this franchise", but he should absolutely be looking at guys on expiring contracts to patch the roster.

Just looked at their schedule to date. Outside of the Padres, an awful lot of games against bad teams. Haven't even had their first series with the Dodgers yet.

Of course, you could say the same about the White Sox. The next two series will probably be revealing.

are the giants legit? 12 games over .500 now

I've been trying to figure this out as well. The pitching is good and should remain good (and aided by AT&T Park) but the offense is a real head scratcher. It's almost entirely guys in their mid 30s having career years, or at least the best seasons they've had in a long time. Yazstzemski, at 30, is one of the youngest guys in their everyday lineup. They're like the anti-Sox - let the old guys play.

  7. Eaton has been nearly useless against lefties for a while now, so I voted platoon. He'd be the strong side, of course, and get the majority of the playing time.

I guess the Sox could trade for Bryant and try him there, but they'd still need a lefty bat, so I don't see that happening.

Maybe Robbie Grossman? He's basically what Eaton was supposed to be this year.
