We basically have no financial commitments beyond this coming season, so even if he goes cheap on the payroll (say $140M) I’d still expect having a ton of money to work with. Not expecting any A free agents, but they I fully expect them address needs in free agency after this season. Jerry knows his time is running out and he wants to “win”. Plus I think our TV deal expires soon and that will force Jerry to pretend he’s serious about winning at minimum.
But we’ve been saying Jerry knows his time is running out and we continue to get him not wanting to spend on the same level as the rest of the league. Jerry isn’t the only one in the ownership group unfortunately and it’s been reported before he just can’t or won’t just throw his own money at the problem. The other “owners” have say in this as well unfortunately.

As we are finding out, that was just an excuse because JR didn’t want to put the work into finding someone who would disagree with him, just opting for yes men willing to do things his way and kissing his ass every chance they get. All these guys do the exact same thing. Just look at their quotes over the years. Hahn, KW, LaRussa…. Praise him up and down talk about how all he wants to do is win, and mention how the losing is killing him. If it were killing him, he’d be long gone by now.
I truly believe JR and TLR think they can win with these type of players though and that is the most concerning part of it. They are so out of touch with reality and neither of them should have their hands on a baseball organization at this point in time in their lives

This we know - Hahn signed Benintendi for 50 Million in order to plug the RF spot since he is a good defender and decent LH hitter. He was only switched to RF to make way for Colas, who, in a short stint in the major league, could not make the grade.
So now, Benintendi should go back to playing RF. Point is, any power hitting corner outfielder will work to compliment Benni. Sox need more HR next year despite the stated desire to make the team faster with improved defense. Further, pitching is the first line of defense in MLB so why trade Cease at all ? He seems like an ideal top of rotation starter who has durability. Stand pat as far as trades right now. When you are in a hole stop digging. Try adding some talent without giving up one of our best players for a change.
Benintendi was signed to play everyday LF. They clearly stated that when he signed which made Eloy a future “RF” or DH. Benintendi has a noodle arm that cannot and should not ever be placed in RF.

I’m still holding out hope that those guys are just intended to be cheap placeholders. But it’s harder to believe that if Getz is all-in on pitching in a potential Cease trade.
I definitely want to see them acquire a potential impact middle of the order bat as I feel like by the time it comes to compete again we will see some of the pitching prospects become MLB ready by the time we are competing again. However you can’t have enough pitching so it’d be nice to acquire another one but I definitely think a young upcoming bat is sorely needed (specifically if we can find it for RF and/or 2B and quit trying to fill those holes year in and year out

When I say “see what we have” I’m talking about farm system and guys at the major league level coming off disappointing seasons. Do you think we know what we have in Vaughn, Eloy, Colas, or Kopech at this point? Those are just a few examples of guys who could greatly increase this value with a strong season.
I think that was the whole purpose of Jerry hiring Getz though. He said it in his press conference. Bringing in someone that knows the inner workings of the organization because he wants to win now and if you bring in someone new they need time to evaluate everyone. If Getz has no idea what we have in the farm system or at the major league level then what the hell was he doing the past few years?

I don’t think we’re purposely tanking, but I do think Jerry is forcing budget cuts to make up for any losses he endured last year and Getz doesn’t want to spend his limited funds on C tier free agents who require multi-year deals. In fairness to Chris, it does make sense to use 2024 as a “see what you have” type season and start pushing in some chips next off-season.
Chris knows what’s on this roster already, he’s not an outsider from a different organization. Maybe they arent trying to purposely tank because JR and TLR are old, calling the shots and think a roster like he’s currently building is the way to win however this team is in no way set to compete in 2025 as currently constructed. This is going to be very painful for the next couple years.

They won’t lose 101 with the better defense, but they will be boring, and suck, and lose over 90.
Win / Losses doesn’t matter at this point anyways with the new draft rules. I don’t want to be the Indians from the past few years where they struggle to score more than 2 runs a game but yet here we are

JR’s dream is a rotation full of soft tossing lefties who know how to “pitch” and a lineup full of David Eckstein’s. Let’s pray to the baseball gods that Getz doesn’t feel the same way.
Have you seen the position players he’s brought in already? They are either slap hitters or players that flat out just can’t hit…

"Every big market team". Last I checked Chicago was a big market and the White Sox play in Chicago so we must be interested. Right? Right?
We are only classified as a big market team when it’s beneficial to Jerry’s bottom line. As far as spending goes….no way we are a big market team, Jerry cries poor 🤣🤣

Imagine if Eloy gets moved. I’m already wondering how this team is gonna score runs but Stassi doesn’t bother me. Catcher is fairly weak across the league and I wouldn’t expect much offense from that position.
Only way I see the team adding much in terms of bringing offense to this team is if they acquire some with the mlb ready prospects they get from a Cease trade

The White Sox also need pitching especially if Cease gets moved.
Sox aren’t in the market for any of those guys. It’s been clear with all these acquisitions they are going to try and find some diamond in the rough type of pitchers or ones on 1-2 year bounce back type of seasons.

Also, depending on the PTBNL, not a bad pickup for cheap.
so far I like Getz’s individual moves, but I’m not entirely convinced of the direction (or lack thereof).
I like the search for defense but the lack of power on this team at the moment is going to make for a long summer….hopefully that will change but I doubt it

"In a vacuum" is pretty obvious. It means that as a baseball contract, it's terrible as his production will never match the dollar amount, champ.
Who the f*** calls people "champ?"
Nah but the be fair most of these massive contracts don’t live up to the play on the field. Unfortunately though in order to be competitive you have to fork over that kind of money from time to time unless you are a team like the Rays who just pull prospects out of their ass year in and year out

Orioles, Braves, Dodgers/Cards, in that order, according to Jesse Rogers a few minutes ago on the radio. “Informed speculation”
If the Dodgers can land Yamamoto after Ohtani and then have the opportunity to acquire Cease in a trade I highly doubt they will care who they give up as far as prospects go.

Dodgers will get Yamamoto also, IMO
Would be the favorite in my opinion. I thought I read something last week he said he wanted to sign with a team that had other Japanese players on it.

False reporting…I already said it was a 600 mil deal with escalators to 700 mil based on IP and Plate Appearances.

Hopefully Yamamoto and Snell sign here soon so we can let the Cease sweepstakes begin

You really truly believe that lol? The Sox went out of their way to say TLR was out of the picture only for their new hire to contradict that statement a few weeks later. TLR will always have the ear of the chairman and when push comes to shove TLR still pulls the strings.
