I would imagine it would be Buddy Bell, but that is just a guess.

There was an article during spring training in which both Kenny and Walker noted that adjustments needed to be made to Tyler's swing, with specifics being detailed by Walker. I would imagine that those are the adjustments he is referring to.

Oney seems to think that Ozney wouldn't want to play for the Sox because they've taken so many guys in front of him. Can we please get this entire family away from the White Sox organization?

    +1

I'm suprised that Zack Alvord is still on the board. There aren't many middle infielders with his kind of bat.

    Didn't he injure himself recently?

  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:53 AM)
Petricka is a top 50 talent who should sign for cheap. The reaction on here was like we just took a short pitcher from Southern Arkansas.

    No doubt.

I'm not in love with the pick, but it isn't anything worth hating. I'll take it.

  6. Petricka has been draft-eligible four times already, out of high school, twice out of junior college (although he didn’t pitch in 2007 after Tommy John surgery), and last year as a red-shirt sophomore, when the Yankees took him in the 34th round.

He started hitting 96-97 repeatedly as a starter in the middle of the spring, and a few weeks ago his power curveball, which started the year as a below-average pitch, became sharper and tighter and had some scouts calling it an average pitch, although the pitch still comes and goes a little. His history of throwing 90% fastballs earned him a Brad Holt comparison from one cross-checker I spoke to.

Despite his ability to hold his velocity late into games there’s still a good chance Petricka ends up as a power reliever due to the inconsistent second pitch and fringy command.

    Number 37 on Law's board, 40 on BA's.

  7. Many publications are noting that the White Sox would indeed have taken Grandal if not popped by the Reds. They certainly would have had to go overslot with him. One wonders if the draft budget is noticeably higher this year. I can only hope.

  8. While I would love Allie/Wilson/Cole as many others, I don't think they are realistic picks for the Sox.

    Names I like:

Workman, Eibner, Yordy, Eldemire, Golden, Bettis, Stanek, Solis, Smelter, and Cisco.

Seems like the last thing they need is another power arm in the bullpen.

I don't think he would be moved off starting initially. Either way, his ETA isn't anytime soon.

Well the nice thing is that for all those who complained about the Sox making "safe" picks, they really haven't done so since the summer after they won the World Series. So for everyone who talks about not living in the past there, hopefully they will do the samething when it comes to complaining about our drafting.

There is still plenty of problems with the White Sox drafting. See the aversion of taking prep players in the 1st round. They also spend an abysmal amount overall. Routinely in the bottom 5 of all baseball.

The Chris Sale pick was great, but that doesn't make them immune to criticism.

  11. I had a feeling Brentz was going here. I'm going to follow him just because of all the fanfare that I think is overblown.

It's a great value at this point in the draft though.
