That was a fun game. Let's try to do more of that please.

It’s very likely that Nastrini doesn’t even leave Chicago. He’ll be back up in a matter of days.
Isn't there a specific amount of time required before he can be called back up unless filling in for an injury? Pretty sure they have to wait more than a few days.

as expected
Wonder who goes. Mendick needs to be added to the 40-man.

For those who follow spring training ... wasn't it evident from week one of spring training how bad a hitting team this would be? I woulda added Whit, Pham and plenty of other guys at that point not named DeJong, Lopez and Maldy when it was painfully obvious how bad this team would be.
They were after Whit. He picked the better team. As pretty much every FA would have done. Only reason Pham is here is because no one came calling in the offseason and the Sox can pretty much guarantee playing time for him to prove his worth so he can get traded to a contender.

Realistically we are likely looking at a rotation like this next year:
- Crochet
- Nastrini
- Thorpe
- Cannon
- Eder/Iriarte/FA
I just don’t see a need for Fedde unless no one is willing to pay up for him at the deadline. If not, he’s a quality, cheap depth option to push the young kids next year.
We can't fall victim into believing that all of Nastini, Cannon, Thorpe, etc. are going to be hits. I'm totally fine with trading Fedde if a competitor offers a decent package, but the Sox need some sort of veteran presence that can give you 150+ innings. Let the arms force their way in, and keep amassing as much depth as possible.

Because he’s an idiot. He wants the media and fans to think he’s taking care of this epic losing situation while pretending he isn’t the one who told us.
Ding, ding, ding! Signals to the masses that he is "taking charge." Wonder how many times he said they need to flush these first two weeks?

No reason to not let the kids get that experience over some washed up arm like Flexen. At least they are quick to pivot in that regard.

He's played it a bunch to begin his career with the Sox, I really don't think he'd be worse than Fletcher there. At worse I think he'd be equivalent
Fletcher was actually known for his glove where Colas is not. Yes, he played CF in the minors, but a lot of young players who are top prospects get looks in CF to see if they can stick. Colas is a corner, not a CF. Can he play there in a pinch? Yes, but he belongs in RF where his cannon of an arm plays best.

Sure. That's why I have a bunch of question marks in my post. But, the question remains. Do people really think he's ready? It's not like the Sox play in a pitcher friendly park, either.
He looked the part in ST. I honestly think the only reason he was even sent down is to get an extra year of control.

He got absolutely crushed in AAA? Yeah, he struck out 13, but gave up 12 hits and 3 walks? Why are we excited for this, and why are the Sox rushing him to the MLB, when he's pitched exactly two games in AAA? Do people really think he's ready?
Charlotte is one of the worst parks to evaluate pitching prospects. I wouldn't worry about 1 bad start to start the year.

MiLB deal. Obviously he is gonna get a shot, but he must be extremely desperate.

I don't know how it relates to attendance numbers specifically, but there have certainly been periods of contraction and spending in this team's recent history. With Moncada and possibly Eloy off the books, there's literally no excuse to not sign Adames or Kim or whoever. Which is my point, if there isn't any movement next year on that front, then I'll probably be actually disillusioned.
I don't actually think attendance is that relevant, if anything the Sox might want to follow in the Royals footsteps and drum up public support for a new ballpark by producing a good team.
You're right, except now this organization would have to drastically overpay to get a guy to willingly choose to sign here - something they've never ever been able to do. Adams and Kim are both going to have big markets and thus the Sox will be left standing with their thumbs up their ass if by some miracle they actually did decide to go after a big name. No way any FA worth a damn is gonna want to come here.

You poor soul.
And yep, I wonder if Jerry’s stupid thoughts on baseball players will change after he got what he wanted — a bunch of garbage players that can’t hit but supposedly can play defense and are GRINDERS!!!
I have no doubt JR is so delusional he believed he was assembling 2005 2.0 with this team of nobody's.

Or he deserves all the blame. I'll never apologize to that crusty asshole.

I'm not gonna lie, I'd love to see a 1-20 start by this team. I really want to see how K-Mart Mr. Clean and Getz answer to something that catastrophic.

For what it's worth again on the post game show Ozzie said he does not want to manage.
40 minutes ago, greg775 said:A conspirary theorist would say this proves Oz has learned to watch what he says. Lying is a sports figure's best friend. If he says he wants to manage it's bold headline stuff.
Or he sees what a shitshow this roster is and wants no part of it. He isn’t stupid.

For one, I can’t imagine Ozzie having any interest in managing this team.
Ozzie wants to be managing again - he might just take them up on it. Problem is his style of managing doesn't work in today's game. Literally no other team has given him a second chance. Regardless, he isn't the answer, it would be another JR smoke and mirrors show living off of past success to draw fans in.

Jeff Torborg called me yesterday afternoon and we talked for about an hour. One of the things he was wondering was why would the Sox want to emulate the Royals and bring in all of their people since they aren't a good organization.
I told him I have no idea, it doesn't make any sense. You want to copy someone? Copy the Yankees, Braves, Cardinals, Tampa, Dodgers...organizations that know how to win.
Hire those front office staffs, scouts, medical, training staffs et al.
The funny thing is... we rant how terrible the Royals organization is, yet they've been more successful than the Sox have since 2005. It's shocking how bad the Sox organization has been.

Three straight (young) players traded for cash. "Depth" has thinned rather quickly.

Torres and Santander feel like Sox type FA signings. I assume they’ll be in play for both and likely only land Santander.
Santander is too good to end up on the Sox. He'll have offers from other teams that will blow the Sox out of the water.

They’re going to need innings this year.
This is really all there is to it. It’s not like there’s a line of FA pitchers that are banging down to door to come here. He’s a sacrificial arm to eat the innings you aren’t gonna get with Crochet, Soroka, and Flexen.

Well I think Shaw is gone Wednesday for Nastrini anyway. So that slot is a little bit of a placeholder. I’d still have kept Cousins in AAA as he’d almost certainly be used in the bigs st some point. and I doubt the cash considerations are much. But oh well.
I'm honestly surprised they managed to keep everyone they brought in on NRI's. The only guy cut was Lucius Fox and he wasn't even a NRI for big league camp.

Feel like he would have been useful before too long.
Certainly would have made more sense for him over Shaw, but this foolish FO thinks they are trying to win something this year.

When the same person talks up a good game, preaches playing smart and hard, and completely gets the opposite results? No, not being to hard. Pedro doesn't have what it takes to be a major league manager. I'd be shocked if we ever see him manage a team again after his Sox tenure eventually ends.

The logical choice is Cannon, especially with Clevinger going to be added fairly soon.
