  1. Yes, but expecting a 2020-ish playoff performance. This team is in desperate need of SP options it doesn't have right now.
  2. He's ranked #7 overall for BA. Guys in front of him (in order) are: Jesus Made, Franklin Arias, Leo De Vries, Josue De Paula, Theo Gillen, and Kade Anderson. Emerson is at #13.
  3. He is, but he's an authentic cheeseball and a real Sox fan. Hawk was too. I'll take that any day of the week over inauthentic, forced, or pretend fandom.
  4. I hope he's replaced. He's gotten better, but he has some way too cringe-worthy moments for my liking. The "Yeah buddy" and "I See You" s%*# is too much and forced. I wish they'd get Plesac in there full-time.
  5. It's a waiver claim, he has to be put on the 40-man, so someone is getting cut.
  6. Well, this ought to be interesting. Send down Q who's finally hitting, or cut Romo who the pitchers like throwing to?
  7. Thorpe had a great outing in Charlotte today. I'm not keen on needing to rely on a guy coming off TJ surgery for a pennant push, but give him a start or two and let Martin phantom IL for his "blister." I really hate the way McDougal was used since being called up. Kid sat for 11 days without seeing game action. Just seems like a total misuse of the kid. I was fine with the way the deadline turned out, but I do really fear Getz fumbled by not adding another SP to this group.
  8. This is the only logical explanation I can think of too. Acuna has actually been fairly good the last month or so, and outperformed Mateo in that time. Mateo does have a connection to Fuller though.
  9. They had a lot of neat items in there in addition to the jersey. They also sold some memorabilia in there too. Always thought it was a shame they tore it out to expand the Home Plate shop. The next stadium definitely needs a proper team history museum.
  10. This is less than ideal...
  11. I really like this move. Back end of the pen just got a lot better.
  12. I don't think Getz 'panicked,' but he obviously wanted to get this deal done tonight. Until we see the prices on the rest of the arms available out there, it's going to be a little too early to judge on what is the actual cost on this trade. IMO, Getz gave up essentially nothing in this deal, except financial flexibility for the future. Boston Smith likely isn't a catcher long term, is 23 yrs old with half his time in A+ ball this year, and does have swing and miss concerns. He's not exactly a prospect. I think Getz cashed in on selling high personally.
  13. I am not a fan of this move. Nothing do with what the Sox gave up, I just hate the idea of trading for a guy who isn't all that much better than Fedde or Kay, and yet makes way more not only for this year, but next year and possibly 2028. Plus, 33 yr old pitchers rarely get better. Getz better not be done...
  14. This, I think a lot of people are overvaluing Smith here. He likely doesn't even stick at catcher. Using him as a trade chip to improve the MLB club for a playoff push is exactly what he should be used for IMO. But the fact this even leaked, it likely isn't going to happen - Getz and co. are always flying under-the-radar.
  15. Agreed. If he's mechanically out of wack and needs to refine his pitches, he belongs in Charlotte where he can safely work on them and not impact the MLB team trying to win the division. Really seems like the Sox fumbled his development this year. Whatever changes he was told to make aren't working at this level. Kid needs a reset. I'm certainly not giving up on him yet. For anyone really worried about him long term, take a look at Dylan Cease's 2020 Savant page - he can still turn it around and be a rotation arm in the future.
  16. Not quite, it's all cooked sushi for obvious reasons. They have a California crunch one, and a shrimp tempura one. It's pretty good for what it is.
  17. It's very impactful, but you need to get the ball to him first. They really need a SP first and foremost to have any chance at a deep playoff run. We all remember how disastrous 2020 was in Oakland. Burke + SP + Martin is at least a playoff rotation you can feel somewhat comfortable/confident against the AL.
  18. The pitchers hate throwing to him, and we've seen that experiment fail multiple times already. People complain about Quero sucking, but at least he had a very nice run in the majors last year. Lee is atrocious, and makes Quero look like Johnny Bench when you put their career stats next to each other.
  19. I know this will be unpopular, but I wouldn't waste trade capital on a catcher, especially for a rental. I'd prefer they burry Quero in the 8/9 spot and hope the lineup gives him enough protection that we see a resurgent 2025 version of him. Losing Teel will suck, but it's not like they had him all that long this season to begin with. Just focus on pitching and bullpen help, IMO.
  20. And yet the argument a lot of people are making is to take him and move him off catcher. That screams getting too cute with the draft if they did that. You can't pull that kind of stuff with the 1-1 pick. This is a really great draft to have the 1st pick. You take the best possible player and don't overthink it. To me that's Roch at 1A, with Emerson a close 1B. Lackey is very talented, but he doesn't enter the conversation for me at 1-1. It should be down to the debate if they feel they can develop Emerson to hit his ceiling potential over maximizing Rochs current skillset. I'm not super confident they can do that yet. But, this organization has started showing the ability to maximize the toolset players have to be very successful at the MLB level. We've even heard about it in the minors with Boston Smith and how they've focused on maximizing his skillset. Give me the guy comp'd to Bregman/Tulowitski. Even if he ends up only being a Swanson-type player (a 3.7 avg bWAR player), that is extremely valuable to the organization.
  21. Well, I get that, but I highly doubt a catcher would ever beat out two top tier SS options for athleticism. There's a reason good organizations focus on SS profiles - they can literally be moved anywhere. Drafting a C to simply move him to the OF feels like poor scouting or drafting for need. If you take Lackey at 1.1 he better damn well stay at C or his value plummets IMO because you're banking on the bat to carry him. I'd rather take a chance on Emerson's potential if they aren't taking Roch.
  22. I can't see the Sox passing on both Roch and Emerson to grab a catcher. Lackey is talented, but drafting him would be absolutely overthinking the entire process.
  23. Devil's advocate: this could be the highest value Smith has if it's proven later this year he can't go deep in games and is a RP, and/or can't throw strikes at the MLB level. If the right deal is there for a cost-controlled MLB level pitcher, I would definitely consider moving Smith if the player coming back is good enough.
  24. The video does exist. It was quite telling. Link: https://www.facebook.com/WhiteSox/videos/tim-anderson-named-al-all-star-starter/1989677341228017/
  25. I've never been happier to be wrong about a player. Good for him, he deserves it.
