  1. Getz better pick up the phone and call the Mets. Layoff the ridiculous asking price and make a deal.
  2. He has, and that's what I'm trying to get at - if Benny sees increased time at DH, that automatically gives both Teel/Quero less time together in the same lineup.
  3. I'd play both, but I don't think it's a slam dunk will see both in the lineup on a regular basis. If they think that freeing up the third catcher spot to another position player makes more sense for their roster flexibility, I think they will do so. I think that's also why we've heard so many rumors about them shopping Quero - because they realize the excessive value they have behind the plate, and wanted to see if they could pivot that value to another position of need instead of possibly wasting it on the bench.
  4. I think that's we differ - I don't really see Benny being the everyday LF. He just seems too broken and frankly too atrocious out there. I would assume it's increasingly likely we don't see Teel and Q both playing at the same time like we did at the end of last season. Venable doesn't seem to like having both of them in the lineup, and Romo (+ his option flexibility) really makes Lee expendable now. If we assume that ends up being the case, then they won't be carrying three catchers, and you gain another bench spot. You can get a lot of playing time for all those guys you mentioned if you have a rotating DH spot. I don't think this is that crazy to see as an opening day setup: LF - Baldwin/Kelenic/Periera CF - Robert RF - Kelenic/Periera (this works as a platoon) DH - Benintendi BN - Hill (defensive replacement and pinch runner in late in close games + Robert's eventual replacement when he inevitably gets hurt again)
  5. I believe he was. It's not the first time the Sox have a fringe guy on a NRI make the team. Jesse Chavez is another guy that comes to mind. He was a NRI, imploded in ST, and the Sox clearly cut him because you couldn't justify having him make the team and he didn't want to go to the minors (supposedly he even contemplated retirement). He signs with Atlanta, and gets his contract purchased before opening day and appears in 46 games for them (and was good).
  6. I don't they are necessarily assured a starting gig, but I do believe teams sign guys to NRI's with handshake agreements they have a higher chance to make the team in order to not disrupt or make any rash decisions regarding the 40-Man roster before heading into ST. It just seems like Kelenic has a great shot at making the team, they obviously really like his potential, and there are glaring holes in the OF. Baldwin is literally his only competition and he is most definitely not a RF. Montgomery is in the wings, but there is literally no reason to hand him the job or rush him to the majors after only 125 AB's in Birmingham.
  7. Well, for one, when's the last time a team had a Zoom call with a NRI?
  8. Red Sox finally sign someone from the FA market. They've done a good job assembling a ton of rotation depth this season. Crochet, Suarez, Gray are a great 1-3, bumped Bello all the way down to 4, Oviedo has a lot of breakout potential, and then you have Tolle and Early waiting in the wings.
  9. Certainly feels like he has a high likelihood to make the team baring a catastrophic ST performance.
  10. Yep, guys like this aren't the sexy name by any means but teams obviously see value in keeping them rostered. Third team Dean's been apart of this offseason. They just need to be played correctly and not relied on as a starter.
  11. A sub .200 hitter with a 30% K-rate is the last thing the Sox need in LF. Lee's value is his defense behind the plate - moving him off that makes him completely worthless.
  12. Oh totally. Lee has very little if any trade value.
  13. I think this signals they aren't planning on carrying Teel, Quero, and Lee on the major league roster. Romo is a very good fielder and gives them some catching depth if they lose Lee when they eventually try to sneak him through waivers. Not a bad move by any means, especially if they can get him to hit.
  14. What an atrocious savant page too. Outside of the elite GB% it's A LOT of blue... and even that seems like a huge outlier compared to the rest of his career.
  15. Viciedo actually had a very successful career overseas. But I wouldn't even worry over Eloy's career. He made a lot of money for doing a whole lot of nothing in the majors.
  16. Yep, Cabrera reportedly had a strain/partial tear of his UCL at the end of the season.
  17. I honestly wouldn't have hated it as a MiLB deal. Charlotte needs a 1B. Hell, he probably would have hit 40 bombs out of Truist.
  18. Honestly seems like something shady was going on and they are getting in front of it. Not only did they fire their scouting director, but they also fired the assistant to him. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't gotten more attention.
  19. Not surprising at all. His profile didn't look all that great for success in the MLB.
  20. He also doesn't hit the ball particularly hard. It'll be interesting to see how his bat (and power) translates while also trying to play secondary positions. I originally was more on him than Mune, but I honestly think his career will end up being closer to Yoshida's.
  21. Verdugo is also a guy who has run himself out of multiple organizations. There's a reason he continues to beg for a job from teams. Immaturity, lack of hustle, and poor work ethic is not something this team really needs right now after they finally shed most of the Hahn era guys.
  22. Seems headed that direction. He doesn't miss a lot of bats. If you wouldn't sign Sugano, you wouldn't want Takahashi.
  23. I've never considered him to have direct connections with the FO. I've always figured he has connections with the money side of things or the internal budget. He's legit.
  24. He doesn't know any more than we do.
