There has been some marginal improvement, but likely not enough to get more than 70 wins. If Getz is ambitious and has another $10M - $15M at his disposal, he could add a legitimate RF, another SP lotto ticket, a couple relievers and possibly a legitimate starting 2B. I’m hoping for a RF at this point and keeping Cease beyond receiving a crazy good offer.

Wish I could have found a sportsbook I could bet Sox over 62 1/2 wins in Vegas. The best I found for Illinois is 64 1/2, which isn’t a safe enough margin IMO, especially with Cease uncertainty and likely trade deadline deals.

I think any additional addition via FA will come with Cease being traded with his salary going towards whoever is added.

This year seems twofold to me:

    1) Getz is clearly trying to reshape this team to be something different. Will his vision be successful? Not this year, but once you jettison Eloy and Moncada’s deals, you are looking at a super low payroll for 2025 that should give him flexibility to add actual impact FA.

    2) Obviously payroll is slashed from the last few years, so they probably have it at a point that they can recoup their financial losses with the massive drop in attendance. We all know how Jerry operates, so it is what it is.

Im not expecting much for this upcoming season. With the way the draft pick falls outside of the top 10, it’s kind of pointless to root for losses. I just want to see better fundamental play and see some success from anyone who will be around 2025 and beyond.

Can only assume Banister wasn't high enough on him...last really solid season (based on contract value) was 2021 SF.

Or they simply feel that already have enough arms for ST already.

Washed up Rosenthal and Diaz quite fitting top two.

Even if Cease is traded, they likely have enough arms that can fill the rotation. Granted, the quality is extremely questionable but its not like Wood would have been a risk-free option either.

  3. Tonight was a good time. Very unique. We pretty much had the whole museum to ourselves, players were scattered throughout, and you got get a pic or autograph if you wanted. Got to talk to Sheets, Eder, Soroka, Kittle, DeJong and Montgomery. I’d say for what the Sox have offered season ticket holders in the past, this was one of the better events pre-Covid, despite all the beer running out in the first 45 min. I drink wine too so it was whatever.

  4. Pius is going to be 33 this year and hasn’t been in the majors or minors since 2019. There is nothing here that would make me think he would be a good addition.

I actually like that he's energetic and excited about things, but stylizing the words like this makes it seem like they're mocking him.

I don’t think that was the intention, but it certainly seems like someone out of their depth is running that account the last week or so. I’ve never heard of stylizing a tweet like that. Usually your accompanying graphic or video should handle the creative side of things.

Anyone going to the event at the Field Musuem on Friday? I am curious what players and coaches they bring in.

I’ll be there. I’m not entirely sure what to expect, but I do know private events at the Field Museum are quite nice.

The Sox are probably looking a 4 to 5 million per year for naming rights in a new park.  Pretty sure none of those guys have those kinds of pockets.

Eh, you’d be surprised. But it wouldn’t happen for such smaller companies. The nationwide brands will always be able to beat it.

Wintrust Bank seems to be involved quite often with marketing both baseball teams. We all know it's going to be something corporate, might as well be local? I thought I heard Wintrust had a proposal to JR for when the US Cellular deal expired...something like "Wintrust Field at Comiskey Park" or something. I wouldn't mind that.

If I had my druthers (I promise I'm not Rick Hahn) it would be simple. Sox Park. That's what I call it now anyways, guaranteed rate and all associated nicknames is so stupid. Other teams have done it: Yankee Stadium, Dodgers Stadium, Angel Stadium, Nationals Park, Oriole Park at Camden Yards. I didn't grow up in the Comiskey era so I don't have any real sentimental value to the Comiskey name, although I do understand the historical value.

They could also get creative with the South Side or the Neighborhood. "South Side Stadium at The 78"

I’d be shocked if it isn’t named after a company. Naming rights are worth too much to pass up, especially for a new stadium. Sox fans will find their own name for it though. I like the seven-eight personally, but having something like “Wintrust Field at the 78” wouldn’t be the worst thing IMO.

Pick a lane, grandpa. Maybe it's just an organization that hires people and when they feel blocked, they leave. Everything doesn't have to be come insane conspiracy theory.

Thanks for the insult? Maybe you've never worked for a company that runs things half-assed backwards, or maybe you're a yes-man yourself, but do yourself a favor and look up the top reasons good employees leave companies. It's not conspiracy.

So the Sox system is getting pilfered? i understand the narrative. When nobody gets taken, we suck and all our guys suck. When other organizations start pilfering people from us, it's because we suck and we can't hang onto our good people.

You know what they say about top talent leaving? Jerry can be loyal all he wants, but the way the Sox are run forces the talented individuals to seek out better opportunities and take them. That's why you have all these company yes men in the organization - they wouldn't be employed this long for other organizations.

I think they bring in a bigger name.  My gut tells me it will be Randal Grichuk, although the lack of Royal experience could be problem there.

I think they are tapped financially. It’s pretty obvious the budget Getz has to work with is non-existent. If you move Cease, that would give them $8-9M to work with, and then I thing you’re right - we might see a guy like Grichuk brought in.

Also, based on Harold’s comment, should be assuming that Gallo is a high probability option for the RF spot?

With all the 4A guys brought in so far, I'd bet that the starting RF is already here we just don't know it yet.

I guess I didn’t word my previous post very well.  I’m not saying Jimmy is making anything up.  But just because the Sox view him as a reliever doesn’t mean they are correct in their assessment.  Meanwhile, the Jays front office thinks he can be a starter.

Worded this way, I would totally agree with you. Guess we will find out if he has what it takes in Toronto.

A 27 year old potential starter would be worth the gamble for $8 million per year for 4 years.  If he pans out as a starter, you have some serious trade bait.  If he doesn’t, oh well, you have a higher priced reliever for a few years.  Also, Getz wouldn’t be able to pay two awful players in future years like Maldonado ($4.25 million) and Nicky Lopez ($4.3 million) more combined salary.  The Sox won’t get a thing for these two guys and their $8.5+ million dollars.

The Sox have been wasting millions of dollars each offseason on washed-up vets.  Time to try a new strategy.  Why not throw some of those wasted millions at a guy that might actually have some upside?

The Sox literally don't view him as a starter.
