I think he’s gonna be a Blue Jay.

It’s an incredibly stupid rule. I’d rather have my players comfortable than forcing them to conform because of an ancient team tradition.

I also heard a clip where Pedro praised the Diamondbacks, alluding to their postseason success and wanting the Sox to be faster, more athletic, etc like they are.
The same Diamondbacks that lost the World Series because they didn't have enough offensive firepower. The same Diamondbacks that have recognized that and already traded for Eugenio Suarez.
It's amazing how this organization is consistently steps behind. Next offseason, after they average 2.5 runs/game with a bunch of scrappy athletic guys, they'll talk about how they need more slugging, plate discipline and on base skills because that's how teams in the playoffs succeeded.
This is a Jerry run organization. It’s not about winning. Just dangle the carrot.

And if we're being totally honest...how did spending like Steve Cohen work out for Steve Cohen last year? They wound up selling off their most expensive pieces and footing a large portion of the bill to bring in prospects.
I’d rather have an owner like Cohen than the flaming pile of human excrement that is Jerry Riensdorf.

what i can see happening with the Sox is that all these free agent pitchers start signing with all the different teams and the market for Cease drys up. with such, contact the orioles and make a deal
If the Yankees or Mets win the Yamamoto sweepstakes, the market for Cease will get that much more contested.

I think the reality is this team is so messed up from Hahn and Kenny it's impossible to fix in one offseason.

Lets be honest, he was never going to pick the Sox over teams that are trying to compete.

Longer this drags, we ain’t getting this guy. Sox have never done well with early leaks.

7th overall in a lottery after a bad year is the Jerry Reinsdorf org sweet spot.
They need to fall outside the top 6 or they can’t pick sooner than 10 next year - regardless of where they fall record wise. This team could lose 120 games and end up with the 10th pick…

He was quite good in the KBO last year - won MVP and their equivalent to the Cy Young Award. But it's still the KBO...

As someone said last week I believe, I think the Winter Meetings aren't as big these days as they used to be. They can meet face to face while sitting at home in their home offices if they want to over Skype or G-Chat or whatever.
MLB needs deadlines like other leagues. It's too damn stagnant as it is.

Even those mid to late 80's White Sox teams had hope in the way of draft picks and a new stadium coming...at least there was SOMETHING to be excited about.
The Nashville White Sox don’t do it for you?

I can see preferring Norby to Ortiz. Ortiz is aging out of true prospect status. He’s a plus glove at short, but I would not bet the bat plays anywhere else. If you’re committed to Montgomery at ss, Norby might make more sense. I bet Baltimore doesn’t pull the trigger on any of it, though. The cheapskates may be a landing spot for Gio.
Pretty sure Gia is signing with the Dodgers. At least, there seemed to be a lot of smoke there.

Well so much for that idea
I just like the idea of getting some more immediate help. I fear a complete rebuild turning into the perpetual Pirates
The Pirates, but minus the actual player development. This team is in serious trouble outside of blinding falling into success like 2005.

And yeah, that was clearly a >$60 million discount from his fair value. He also is getting over $40 million from his 2 arb years, so playing out these 2 years and signing a $500 million deal nets him $540 million. It was a strong offer and a reasonable one for a guy 2 years from FA but it was also a discount compared to what he would get 2 years later as a FA.
Boras isn’t dumb, he knows the market for these guys. He won’t advise his guys to sign for less than the market, but if a guy gets a full market value offer from the Yankees and wants to play there, he won’t miss it on the off chance of a better one.
When's the last time a Boras client extended instead of hitting FA? I legitimately can't recall it ever happening.

AJSS and Waldrep are somewhat intriguing but yeah I’m hoping someone else steps up and offers more.
It's still very early, and no rush at the moment for him to be moved.

I’d need Grissom, Smith-Shawver, Waldrep and another piece
Not my favorite package. Really hope BAL steps up but those prospect hugging losers seem unwilling to fully go for it.

How many SS’s other than Bichette are out there? What’s his acquisition cost?
Jean Segura, for example, got $17 million guaranteed at his advanced age…although he clearly became more of a 3b as opposed to pure SS.
I’m a big fan of Bo but he isn’t much of a SS. He’s pretty brutal defensively.

I can’t stand Chuck’s voice, but that’s just me. Nothing against the guy, he just annoys me. Watching him dance after a Sox win each time would be entertaining though.

It certainly can't hurt. I hope they continue to go down these avenues and get caught up with the rest of the league.
