  1. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 08:54 PM)
I could see if Danks was 24 and was under control for 4 years at undermarket price, but yeah Danks is a f/a next year... The CBA kind of screws you too. If Danks is dealt during the season teams won't get comp picks for him and GMs aren't dumb, or well some arent. they know this and will exploit it.

I disagree. There is a very good chance we will get compensation with Danks, but not Quentin. In order to get compensation in the new CBA is you have to offer them arbitration and they take the average salary of the TOP 125 players. MLB is saying next year that will come out to 14 million for the year. Danks will not accept arbitration because he would be leaving at least additional 50 million on the table. Too risky for a pitcher. Sox then would get 2 compensation picks.

  2. The Danks trade is interesting trade-not to bad. The one thing I don't like about any of these offers-is there isn't a guarenteed lock of a prospect that will pan out in major league roster. A lot of risk in all of these trades. Not a fan of the Quentin Deal-not sold at all on Medlin how many 5-10 starters pan out with starters workload.

    I like both.

Not a fan of Scheppers or Loux long history of shoulder and elbow. Surgery waiting to happen. I would pass on both-damage goods.

    http://whereisvanslyke.blogspot.com/2008/0...s-shoulder.html

    Loux's shoulder injury

the MRI revealed a labrum tear…significantly more serious than “fraying”. Particularly long term.

In addition, Loux had symptoms in his elbow that indicate he could need Tommy John surgery in the near future. This is on top of the fact the Loux already has had elbow surgery to remove bone chips.

The D’Backs were not being cheap, there were simply being prudent. They already had a deal in place to sign Loux at well below slot, until the injury issues were revealed.

Really dissappointed we couldn't get Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick or Lars Anderson, or any other overblown Red Sox prospect.

The Santos trade was great. No, we didn't fleece anyone, but both teams got value. It's a good trade on both sides.

The problem with this trade Kenny Williams seemed to focus on one team to trade with and that's Toronto. That's not being a smart GM. Santos was a hot commodity due to lack of milelage on throwing arm, ability, and friendly contract. Many teams have come out and said they wished they knew Kenny was making Santos available . Also, on the Boston front their are a lot better prospects than Anderson and Reddick. Lowrie has been with major league roster the past 2-3 years and isn't even considered a prospect anymore at the Age of 27. Kalish, Middleton, Wilson could of have been great additions to the farm system that are almost major league ready. Kenny Williams should of received more than one prospect in this deal. We should of received another prospect with a high ceiling.

I said the last 2 years- Vicedo was signed almost 4 years ago. Santos was picked up 3 years ago. I think Addison Reed is going to be a stud, but I again have problems with Kenny and are scouts spending high draft picks on relievers. I believe Addison Reed had a good chance to develop into a starter. He has 3 average to above average pitches. You look at the past 2 drafts we have been spending high draft picks on relievers. We have absolutely no starting pitching prospects that will be legit except for Petricka whose in Low A, but still has huge question marks. They should of tried developing Reed as a SP.

Red sox disappointed that Santos wasn't shopped to them b4 White Sox sent him to Tor.

Way to go Kenny-that's how you trade. Only talk to one team and pull the trigger. Kenny your time is way up. We need someone with a change of philosophy on trading. For the past 2 years, the Sox haven't come out ahead on any of Kenny's decisions: Rios waiver, Dunn, Teahen trade/contract, Peavy, Rushing Beckham, Swisher both trades, Ohman-2 year deal, and list goes on. I know it's not going to happen, but Jerry FIRE KENNY WILLIAMS.

  8. I like getting Molina back, but come on Kenny we should of received another solid prospect in return. 3 years- 8.25 million. It will be very interesting to compare how much Billy Beane will get for Bailey. Let me guess it will be a lot more than Molina. Kenny always jumps the gun to early on his trades.

  9. Look at what happened to Beckham, Dunn, and Rios swings this past year-pathetic. Walker should have been let go a long time ago, but at the same time I think a hitting coach is the most overrated coach needed in baseball. A player in the majors should have their swing intact by that time. Why Dunn, Beckham, and Rios completely changed their swings were beyond me. Beckham's at his best when he goes to Right-Center and we haven't seen that since his rookie year.

  10. This from MLB: Interesting new twist on teams going over Draft Salary Cap.

There's another wrinkle to this. These lottery picks can be traded. That's right, for the first time in Major League history, Draft picks can be dealt. But there are a series of conditions and limitations regarding such transactions.

Only a team that wins a pick in the lottery can trade it, meaning that selection can be traded just once. It can't be sold for cash, and it may only be dealt during the season. Trading can commence the day after the lottery is held and is allowed until the end of that regular season. So seeing a lottery pick or two involved in some July 31 Trade Deadline deals is a distinct possibility. They cannot be included in any Winter Meetings deals, however, with trading of picks again permitted at the beginning of the following regular season.

    Teams eligible for '13 Lottery

    Arizona D-backs Baltimore Orioles

    Cleveland Indians Kansas City Royals

    Oakland Athletics Pittsburgh Pirates

San Diego Padres Tampa Bay Rays

    Cincinnati Reds Colorado Rockies

    Miami Marlins Milwaukee Brewers

    St. Louis Cardinals

The lottery, it seems, has been designed to help small-market and lowest-revenue clubs gain more talent not just because they had a poor season. Many of the smaller-market clubs were proponents of a system with hard slotting. While that hasn't happened, this current system is designed, with this lottery a part of it, to give those clubs a competitive advantage compared to the status quo.

There is one other lottery, one for picks forfeited by teams going over their allotted bonus pools. Any team going five to 10 percent over its pool gets taxed at 75 percent and loses a first-round pick. Anyone going 10-15 percent over gets hit with a 100-percent tax and loses a first- and second-round pick. Anything over 15 percent means a 100-percent tax and loss of first-round selections in the next two Drafts.

Any of those forfeited picks would go into a separate lottery. Any team that did not exceed its pool will be in that lottery. In this one, though, the odds are not just based on winning percentage, but on a formula of revenue and winning percentage.

#mlbdraft changes looking more dire. Just heard from club exec who said pool for first 10 rounds closer to $180 mil than reported $200 mil

More from exec: If you don't sign a pick, you lose his cap value. You can't not sign 1st-rder & spend his $ elsewhere. #mlbdraft

    Wow-that's shocking that's included.

  12. Wow this is shocking how drastic they made with the changes. This is great news for the White Sox, but bad for baseball. This has huge negative impact on small market teams Royals, Pirates, Tampa, Washington, Arizona, etc. The low budget teams are going to remain s***ty teams because of this.

  13. With Sale going in as a starter that guarantees the Sox must have 6 starters for the year. Sale has never pitched more more than 120 innings in a season and that took place 2 years ago. This year he pitched 71 innings. At most, Sale should pitch between 120-150 innings for next year. Anything more than that is a guarantee arm/shoulder injury waiting to happen. Oh-I forgot we need 7 starters-we still have Peavy.

  14. Now is not a good time to trade Santos. With Madson, Cordero, F. Rodriguez, Lidge, Bell, Broxton, Nathan and to a lesser extent K. Wood, Frank Franciso, and Rodney all available in free agency. Santos trade value gets hurt because of availability of so many closers on the market. Teams are going to be less willing to give up solid prospects. The only thing that is going for Santos is his contract which would be a steal compared to the deals that is being thrown out in free agency. Papelbon contract was just plain stupid, but that will give you an idea of the money that's going to be thrown away this off season. Giants picking up Affeldt 5 million option, Javier Lopez who throws only against lefties 2yr-8.5 mil.

  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 07:30 PM)

I'd say blow it up. When you decided to make Robin Ventura your manager to learn on the job that shows rebuilding is the direction your going. Danks has no desire to signing and wants to test free agency. Trade Quentin-check. Floyd doesn't have to be traded right away unless you get blown away in a deal-like when we stole Danks and Massett from Rangers. Then let's start the rebuilding by trading Konerko, Thornton, Pierznyski, and the possibility of seeing any takers for Rios and eating a lot of the contract. We need to focus on player development and the farm system. Also, the new collective bargaining agreement will benefit the Sox because of the changes being made towards the draft. It's way to hard to think they will be competitive the next 2 years with Rios, Dunn, and Peavy contracts messing things up and the departure of Buehrle.
