QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Ooooooh, an industry source. That changes everything. So what number is going to wear for us? Will he be at Soxfest? A random industry source has this inside scoop apparently, someone tell the jersey manufacturers. Where did I say it changes everything? We've been in the running for him. Some people were questioning whether we still were at this point. Stop being dramatic and read the article next time. Kenny breaks silence of the situation http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/willia...masahiro-tanaka

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) The only "proof" they had of that was that the Sox publicly announced meeting with Tanaka. This article could have been written any day in the past week, there is nothing new in it. Just trying to temper enthusiasm over a sensationalized NY Post headline. "According to an industry source, both the Cubs and White Sox are still seriously in the hunt for the Japanese right-hander, along with the Yankees and Dodgers." Maybe reading the article next time would help. They were clearly just reiterating that we met them already just catch people up.

I was going to post the new Cubs report that they are major players....but the person reporting it seems questionable

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) I'm thinking he will be an Angel or Dodger. This is just too far fetched. Mike DiGiovanna @MikeDiGiovanna 1h GM Jerry Dipoto confirms that #Angels were not one of the teams that met with Japanese RHP Masahiro Tanaka in LA last week. https://twitter.com/MikeDiGiovanna

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) ^ Garza is a KW move. I don't think Hahn brings a flyball pitcher to the cell for that kind of money after putting together a full bullpen of groundballers It really makes very little sense to bring up Garza. Tanaka is a different story. Young pitcher who could be next to Sale for years and drastically improve the team. Garza doesnt drastically improve the team and we know what he is.
-
Why the hell would we sign Matt Garza? He did so well in that launching pad in Texas lets put him in another one.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) This feels like how the Bulls pitched to LeBron. We declined to comment until after The Decision, and it turns out he pretty much knew where he was going before the meetings ("I decided this morning" was B.S.). Except the part where many thought that LeBron was going to the Heat in the first place and nobody really knows where Tanaka might go. Plus the situation for both at the time isnt remotely close. But other than that yeah its similar.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Translation: Tanaka will not sign with us. Sounds like they are doing what every team is doing. Exploring what his interests are.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) I lived through the Jack Morris era, and I never remember thinking Hall of Fame pitcher. I think he makes the Hall of Really Good. He did a lot of really good things, but I never saw him as a dominant or top notch pitcher. I was really little when he was pitching so I never got to see him first hand. But the numbers plus that seems to be the testimony of plenty of people support why he shouldnt have been voted in. Hall of Very Good isnt a bad thing....but everytime I say that people act like I'm saying he is one of the worst players to play the game.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) I gotcha. I do and don't agree with that though. I understand the flaws of the stat, but I also do believe that there are some players out there who just know how to win. I mean, if guy consistently gets 15+ wins a season, he's probably more good than lucky. But yeah, I do understand your point and W shouldn't be the sole basis for argument unless you are above that 300 number. If a guy has worse numbers than the number 2 pitchers behind him combined over his career what does that tell you?
-
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) He also had 169 complete games, three world series rings (1 times world series MVP), started three all-star games, was the undisputed ace on most of his teams, something like 500 consecutive starts without missing a turn into the rotation, all while spending the majority of his time pitching in a hitters paradise. Thats all fine and dandy...he still shouldnt have made it and thankfully he didnt
-
Great news....glad I got to see this day....also glad I dont have to hear about Jack Morris anymore
-
The Cubs not signing him would be hilarious....basically the only thing those fans had going for them these last few months
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Could just be a case of finding out if his price is really that high. You also never know how far a good impression can go. Maybe we can have Shingo and Iguchi stop by. Maybe we want to enter a bidding war, too. I'd be surprised, though. I wouldnt be surprised at all
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) What's stupid is that two of the best seasons Morris had came in his late 30s in 1991 & 1992, when the PED had already begun. So he's not consistent at all. Yeah I was going to say...the argument is neither consistent or intelligent. Its just plain stupid.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) Thomas-less ballot: https://twitter.com/RRepoz/status/419252914310217728 Turned in a ballot with 9 names. No room for Frank. Old guy, by the way. Retired a few years ago. As far as I can tell, Frank is at 101/112- 90.2% Vote for Jack Morris but not Thomas....alllllrighttty then

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I would like to know more about the results of that physical. What was the medical issue? Balfour's numbers were better in 2013 than Reed's. I like Jones but a proven veteran closer wouldn't be such a bad thing. Something with his arm. But he has had 2 doctors clear him. Would anybody be surprised if Baltimore just simply changed their minds?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) Wasn't he about to get a 3 year deal? Even if he has to take slightly less money, a multi-year deal makes that awfully tough. I thought it was a 2 year deal
-
Sure and then flip him mid season
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) People are actually offended by that? Yeesh. Alot of people have thin skin when it comes to stuff like that....personally I got a little chuckle out of it

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) I'd agree if I had any confidence in Leesman or SantRod. Heck, I've been following Santos religiously ever since the Javy trade. His horrible adjustment to AAA, after finally showing a tiny semblance of control in AA, has me worried that he'll never throw strikes consistently enough. Needs to happen soon for him. That's what I was getting at....not many options. But there are a few in the free agent market.
-
Eric O'Flaherty? Last year he had a GB percentage in at 60 something Funny thing is he was on the list with guess who? Downs and Lindstrom http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/2014...ree-agents.html

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Good signing. Veal just seemed nervous last year. Wouldn't mind giving him another shot. He should have been nervous....he would walk someone on 4 pitches easily.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) With Veal I am guessing 2012 was the fluke, and not the rest of his sucky career. Yeah I agree with this. Not a fan of Veal....would rather go with someone else(not that there are many options).
