  1. How are you gettin updates so fast?
  2. Stupid MLB idiots missed the 1st pick.
  3. Completely Off Topic but I just saw 9 replies and 1 view to this thread. Weird.
  4. C'mon I gotta get sum sleep here.
  5. I just saw Jon Garland on one of the old computers in the MLB live feed. I felt so proud.
  6. Updates coming fast now, 12:25 PM ET: Has Drew Found A Home? Florida State shortstop Stephen Drew may not tumble too far after all. The Orioles appear to be closing in on Drew at No. 8. The ripple effects: The Rockies take Georgia HS shortstop Chris Nelson at No. 9, and the Rangers could ponder taking Rice righthander Wade Townsend rather than Missouri HS lefty Scott Elbert at No. 10. At No. 13, the Expos would take Townsend, and if he's not there, likely William & Mary lefty Bill Bray or New Orleans righty Thomas Diamond. If Montreal winds up with Bray, the Diamondbacks would take Oklahoma lefty David Purcey at 15, and the Blue Jays would take Texas A&M lefty Zach Jackson if Purcey is gone at 16.
  7. We had 35 users lookin at that thread 1 time I think, that's gotta be a record.
  8. You'll only get 1 good week of playing time out of Bellhorn, Moyer needs run support, although his last few starts hav been pretty good. I think Santana and Giles are goin to hav great 2nd half's of the season though.
  9. It was like page 4 or 6 of the thread I think. Last time I checked we had 16 signatures to it.
  10. U beat Tony's Dad 14-0 last week, impressive. Until now.
  11. Another draft rumor, can't see this happenin though even if it has nothin to do with us. 12:13 PM ET: Crazy Last-Hour Rumor Dept. The Reds may be considering Woodinville (Wash.) HS outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo at No. 7. He's one of the nation's top quarterback recruits and a very good athlete, but it's hard to believe Cincinnati would pass up players like Georgia HS shortstop Chris Nelson and Texas HS righty Homer Bailey to take him. Cincy probably could get Tuiasosopo in the second round, unless the Yankees take him at No. 42. New York reportedly is interested.
  12. I think he was unhappy about the walks issued by Botch. "Right now, it's too early for me [to think about changes]," Guillen said. "I might change my mind tomorrow or the next day." Considering the way Shingo Takatsu has pitched, Guillen could do worse than call on the veteran closer from the Japan League. Takatsu pitched another perfect inning Sunday in the eighth to run his streak to 13 consecutive batters retired, and has been perhaps the Sox's most consistent reliever. Guillen has said he doesn't mind Koch getting beaten by giving up hits, but he can't stand the walks. "The walks are going to kill you," Guillen said.
  13. From AP, Rondell White hit a long drive to left field in the ninth inning, only to see it caught on the warning track. Alan Trammell thinks the Minnesota Twins might have made sure the ball stayed in the park. Detroit's manager questioned whether the Twins tinkered with the ventilation system at the Metrodome late in a 6-5 victory over the Tigers on Sunday. ``It seemed like those air conditioners were blowing straight in our face in the top of the ninth,'' Trammell said. ``There was definitely a difference in the air conditioner in the ninth inning.'' Minnesota took a 6-3 lead in the eighth on Joe Mauer's first major league homer, a three-run shot to right. In the ninth, the Tigers rallied for two runs and had the tying run on first with one out when White hit a deep drive to left. But Lew Ford made the catch on the warning track for the second out, and Joe Nathan struck out Bobby Higginson to end it. ``I thought I had it, but that's the name of the game -- inches,'' White said. After the game, Trammell went public with what other teams have grumbled about in the past, saying the Metrodome's ventilation system was blowing air through its outfield vents in the ninth inning to help prevent Detroit home runs. ``It borders on the ridiculous and the absurd,'' Twins vice president of operations Matt Hoy said. ``It's a romantic concept that we can materially affect the flight of the ball, but it's just not possible.''
  14. I think that's the way most of us want this draft to pan out. Mayb a higher prospect will slide down to us that we can sign though at 18 which would be nice.
  15. So we'd hav to pass on Weaver for the Cards to take him. Interesting.
  16. Another Weaver rumor from BA, 11:35 AM ET: Monday Morning Rumor Dept. As the baseball world continues to ponder where Jered Weaver might fall, the Cardinals may be the best first-round possibility. They've gotten deals done with Scott Boras draft picks in the past, including another guy who had a rumored eight-figure price tag, J.D. Drew.
  17. Same here, we need some quality infield prospects. Seems to hav good pop for a third baseman as well.
  18. My bad, fixed that up in the pale hole draft thread. Still don't think they'll take Weaver though.
  19. 30 mins I think, and hope. I'm catchin it live and it's 1:30 a.m down here.
  20. Would you pay over $7 million for a 5th starter though.
  21. Damn I forgot the Yanks got a 1st rounder from the Astros for Andy Pettite. Still I dunno if Weaver will want to go to the Yanks afta what happened with his brother.
  22. This from a Scott Boras ESPN Chat a few years ago, Frank: Many GMs now believe that high-level draft picks are significantly overpaid in relation to the risk involved. What is your opinion on this based on the high failure rate of baseball draft picks? Scott Boras: When you look at the draft on the whole, you're talking about a risk venture. Yes, not all first-rounders will make the majors and only a few of them will turn into stars. But I can only speak for the players we've represented and our success rate is very high. The average major league career lasts less than three seasons but 90 percent of our first-rounders have played at least three years and our average is over six years. Going back to guys like Kevin Brown, Andy Benes, Tim Belcher, Steve Avery and Kurt Stillwell -- some of our early clients -- we've produced many quality major leaguers. And spending money on players like them is going to be a more efficient business move than signing a free agent. Rumi547: Will this be the first year that signing bonuses actually fall? Is that due to a lack of talent, or is that due to concerted effort by the teams to do so? Scott Boras: In Rick Ankiel's draft a couple years ago, this subject was brought up. At that time, we asked for a premium bonus for Rick because we thought he was a premium player -- and he eventually got it from the Cardinals. If teams let premium talent drift to clubs willing to pay the money, then some other club will take advantage of that. It's not any secret that Rick Ankiel and J.D. Drew are a reason St. Louis is in first place and they got those players because other teams didn't want to pay the price. Teams may not want to pay for amateur players, but they would have to pay MORE for free agents at the level of an Ankiel or Drew. Essentially, it's an inefficient practice to turn away from good talent like Ankiel's. Reddog47: What do you think of possible "collusion" to hold down draft bonuses? Scott Boras: If teams are talking among themselves, that is allowed because there is no collective bargaining agreement at the amateur level. I contend that if teams do that, however, they will suffer. Remember, GMs have 3- or 4-year contracts. The owner wants to win now. So, people have to make decisions that help the team now -- and that means taking calculated risks. The draft is part of that, but good teams take calculated risks based on good assessment and smart analysis.
  23. Yeah u can catch the PBP on MLB.com, and Baseball America has a draft day blog with updates as well.
