I don't think it necessarily means they're "more serious," or in intense negotiations, just that their offer is much higher than the $175m figure.
An offer much higher than 175M is more serious is it not?

"But the truth is that their reports on the details of the White Sox level of interest in Manny are completely wrong"
Which means the Sox are more serious than being reported by those clowns. First Hahn and now Lozano frustrated with the media. I'd say there are serious talks between the Sox and Lozano.

MLB channel is saying that the Phillies are looking to get Machado, Harper and Keuchel.
Bartender, ill have a double of what MLBN is having.

DA could be onto something. Sox leak 7/175 to Nightengale and Levine to keep the bidding below their actual offer.

Sox fans are blowing up Hector Gomez so hard on twitter. In the last hour he's agreed to go on a podcast, he's thanked multiple sox fans for backing up his report, and just quote tweeted a soxon35th member. lmao
LMFAO that will change if Machado signs with a team not named the Chicago White Sox.

BUT, what if it turns out to be true?
Then so be it. Things are beyond my control so no point in getting emotional over it.
Imho, JR didn't step up to the negotiating table to offer 8/175. Hahn could have done that. For all we know Hahn opened negotiations with that as a starting point and since then JR has taken over and now the 8/250 rumor surfaces.
Not at all concerned.

Given the way reporting has gone, we'll probably see one soon that says "Sox camp hasn't talked to Machado in 2 weeks" or "Sox having serious discussions with Moustakas".
This is so believable you made me laugh when I read it. Watch it be Nightengale to revive the Moustakas rumor with Levine shortly following up with the same shit.

More ESPN east coast bias bullshit. Nothing new. Maybe I'm reaching here but this is about more than the rumored White Sox offer, the majority of the media just doesn't want Machado signing with the Sox. Not trying to play the role of the victim here because I could personally care less what others think of my favorite team, but according to what I've read its obvious.

No way baseball is played during the 2021 season...no freaking way.
I survived the '94 strike but I don't know if I have it in me to survive another. At least I have the Cougars and the Boomers near by.

Lack of a salary cap is definitely not the problem in baseball right now. The harshness of the new luxury tax may even be a key problem in getting the best players paid well.
But its the luxury tax threshold that's kept the big spenders out and the White Sox in the mix. Take away that luxury tax threshold and its likely both players are signed to huge contracts with other teams and we would be talking about signing scraps on the FA market.
Without that luxury tax threshold small market teams would begin to vanish.

Dave is right. According to the rumors NYY didn't want to go above 200M. If the Sox offer was 175M the Yanks would still be in it.

Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports writing a full column in reaction to Michael Duarte's extremely ambiguous quote from yesterday.
A rival MLB executive believes Manny Machado is heavily leaning towards accepting the offer from the Chicago White Sox. Deal could be announced this week or could still fall through.
This is just getting comical.
Did a writer with that last name seriously say that? At least he's covered all his bases.

Yup. I definitely dont see how anybody can blame the FO if the Sox lose out on both. Harper was a total long shot to begin with. Manny? If the Sox don't get him, then his agent had some weird plan in place for negotiations. Sox have done everything to get him. Sign his relative and pal and $$$$ will be as much as anybody else. No way they will take the PR hit of not offering as much as the other teams.
Agree 100% Greg. They said they would spend for the right players and here they doing their best to sign one of them. Curious about who else they have their sites on. Would have to think a starting pitcher.

Wouldn't put it past Boras to drag this into February. JD Martinez didn't sign until February 19th last year and Boston was pretty much in a one team race to sign him. There are some similarities between the Boston/Martinez and Philly/Harper negotiations.

Thank you sir. I feel strongly about this one. There is the one "concern" that the Yankees are never to be taken lightly (yankees get who Yankees want) but it just doesn't seem like there's smoke regarding the Bronx Bombers. It seems like Manny is future property of the White Sox. And I feel it's pretty obvious Harper will go to Phils with a very very slight possibility of staying put in Wash (see comment on Yankees).
I hear you. I'm invigorated by the front office still being in the mix with a sizable offer on the table and seemingly willing to go higher. I didn't think the Sox had a snowballs chance in hell but the FO has changed that.

Go get drunk and then pass out. Sleep in tomorrow from a hangover and wake up to the signing Machado. If that ain't the recipe for success then I don't know what is.

It is exhausting because the franchise has nearly always been run as a Mickey Mouse organization. If I knew that they were actually making serious offers, of course I'd feel excited. OTOH, there is the distinct possibility that they're claiming to be in the running but never really were because their offers were insulting or a joke. Not only do we have to wait on a decision, we have to decipher whether or not they're actually making serious offers. That is where the exhaustion lies. If we knew they were serious, it would be a lot of fun. Because there is the distinct possibility that they were stringing us all along and are going to pull the "Awe, shucks we tried" bit, even though they were never actually making serious offers, that is where it goes from pure fun to frustration and annoyance.
Jack you're looking too far into all the rumors. It's January 15th and the Sox are one of two teams left in the bidding for Machado. The Sox wouldn't be in it this late in the game if they and their offers weren't serious.
