The Value of John Danks
I don't see much of a return for Danks right now. If he pitches well in the first half of 14 then we might get a decent return , however, if he pitches well in a full 14 season he would bring some prospects worth getting excited over. Timeing is just plain bad right now. He would be nothing more than a salary dump at this point and that would only make sense if the Sox were trying to sign a FA or two in an effort to make the team better in 14.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) I'm really hoping this is just a precursor to a trade about to go down Thought the same thing when I read that at MLBTR.

Why Not Cano?
Since Franklin is looking like the odd man out in Seattle now how about the Sox make a play for him? I'll take a 22 yo switch hitting 2B.

The Value of Chris Sale
If trading Sale makes this team better going into the 14 season then trade him, but that's based on the sox getting a huge haul in return due to his insane value right now. Sale's value is so high he might not be tradeable to begin with.

White Sox sign Belisario, 1-year, $3 mill
So we signed Mike MacDougal on cocaine, big deal ?!

The Value of Chris Sale
Why is his career behind the plate over?

2013-14 off season player movement thread
Another update from MLBTR... "6:45pm: The Mariners are "about to offer" Cano a nine-year, $225MM deal, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports. Heyman indicates that Seattle is bidding $225MM to stay $50MM ahead of the Yankees, whose don't want to top $175MM." Seems the Mariners just might make this happen.

Masahiro Tanaka
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) So what if he decides to not go with the Astros. Does it move to the next team? Check out post #29. It explains that the process will happen one of two ways but is not decided on yet. There's a link to an mlb.com article in that post.

White Sox sign Belisario, 1-year, $3 mill
What the he'll, why not? Sox need help in the pen anyway. I'll take his big league experience and hope for the best.

Masahiro Tanaka
Best I can find is this from mlb.com http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/major-...p;vkey=news_mlb "It remains unclear exactly how a system with a $20 million cap would work. While it would almost certainly make the best Japanese players available to far more Major League teams, there have been different interpretations of what would happen when multiple teams submit maximum bids. One version suggests that the player would then be free to negotiate with each of those teams and sign with whichever team he preferred, which would still seem to give an edge to the deep-pocketed franchises. Another is that the team with the lowest winning percentage would have exclusive negotiating rights. The obvious drawback, of course, is that this could theoretically provide a disincentive for losing teams to try to win down the stretch." Pretty much hasn't been decided yet.

Masahiro Tanaka
I think the draft order applies to the posting bids. As long as the Sox match Florida and Houston then the Sox can negotiate, but the same can be said for the teams behind the Sox. I'm gonna see if I can find out for sure. Its been kinda vague up to now.

Masahiro Tanaka
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) It will be either that or draft order. I can't see Houston or Miami beating the Sox if Hahn wanted him. Especially if Hahn also wanted to keep him from the Cubs. If he does post I can see Tanaka as a real possibility no doubt. I watched video on him recently and he is nasty, accept for his straight as an arrow fastball but if he can command it well then he should do well. I REALLY hope he posts!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) One of the greatest fighters for justice in human history. RIP. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/05/world/africa....html?hpt=hp_t1 eta: jesus christ the comments on that, why did I subject myself Absolutely! RIP Nelson.

Masahiro Tanaka
The way I understand it is this. If multiple teams bid the max then tanaka would be able to negotiate with all the winning bidders for the best contract and then sign. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Masahiro Tanaka
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) I will say this, if Tanaka does get posted, Hahn better put in a $20M bid. There's nothing to lose and if your bid wins and you can get him to sign for a Darvish like contract (6/$56M) that's beyond a f***ing steal in this free agent market. I mean we're taking about anywhere between $30M to $55M in posting fees suddenly removed from the equation. Even with a full rotation, a GM should not pass on this kind of a potential steal. The other good news is that contenders should have no chance at him now, which means our pitching should be even more valuable once the rest of the free agent starters are picked through. f*** yeah! Tanaka would possibly make another starter available via trade to help fill another hole all the while not losing a draft pick. Win, win.

2013-14 off season player movement thread
Not done yet.. Per MLBTR... "5:15pm: Cano asked the Mariners for a ten-year, $240MM deal, but the Mariners' offer did not exceed $200MM, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets." Different story from what was reported earlier.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
Uh, ya. Its way too early to say the off season is finished for the Sox. Im not happy with many aspects of the current roster but it is a long off season with a lot of time left.

The Value of Chris Sale
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) It doesn't need to be some one, it has to be a collective that will win you more games than you will win just by having Sale pitch every five days. I would think the price would be three ML ready prospects with upside plus a couple high upside guys. That's exactly what I'm saying. Its pointless otherwise.

The Value of Chris Sale
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) And then some. You don't trade a young cost controlled ace like Sale unless you're getting a package you believe will be better than Sale. That's just it. The Sox have to be a better team after the trade than before the trade or forget it. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) Bradley and Owings have to be in any deal IMO... Agreed.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) If everyone's getting overpaid, perhaps it's time we start readjusting our expectations for player salaries. On a team with 99 losses, poor attendance and for now a bleak outlook for 2014, how do you suspect this can happen?
-
The Value of Chris Sale
As was discussed in another thread its not a move where your just replacing Sale ( thats a pointless move) as it is to get the right players in return that can fill multiple holes the Sox have. By no means am I saying we shop Sale, but if team calls about him you listen and let the team know it will take one hell of a haul to take Sale out of Chicago. Otherwise, happy holidays and thanks for calling, click.

The Value of Chris Sale
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) They have several top 100 prospects but they have Corbin, now, so they would be less interested in Sale (theoretically). I'm not so sure. The AZ gm said yesterday or the day before they are looking for a front line ace and Sale fits that description no doubt.
-
The Value of Chris Sale
Off the top of my head I think only Arizona has the over all combination of prospects the Sox would seek. Any talks would start with Bradley or most likely forget it. I'm sure others here can name some teams and their aspects but AZ is the one team that could be a realistic trade partner.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) I still think everyone's getting overpaid. Ellsbury, Nolasco, Peroida, McCann... now Granderson will join that group I think Hahn would agree with, so do I.
