I expect nobody particularly interesting being drafted today. Maybe they will take one or two big swings tomorrow, but it‘s all about saving money toda from now on.

Exactly. Sox blew their wad with Montgomery/Katz/Burke/McDougal selections and now will be looking to primarily save money

When Lamb comes back, there is no point to having both Lamb and Sheets on the roster. The emotional side of me wants to see Sheets stay, but the logical side says that Lamb stays since Sheets can be sent down. Would have a short leash on Lamb though.

I absolutely could see the Sox using Sheets and/or Burger as trade bait at the deadline. With Cespedes/Colas in the pipeline the Sox should be in a good place OF prospect wise.

Glancing at our minors, very few of our prospects seem to be having what can be considered a "Good" season. Of course the farm was going to weaken as we entered the competitive window, but performances have been bleak in 2021

Burger just got named to the ASG Futures games.  Not that that means much, but people are taking notice. I am not moving Moncada off 3B for him, and there are definitely trades I'd move Burger in.  But I sure as shit am not moving him at this point for a guy like Escobar or some other stop gap measure.  As part of a deal for a legit releiver with control?  A Trevor Story type stop gap?  A guy we can plug into RF next yeaar without hesitiation?  Sure.

But there are also plenty of at bats to go around on the mlb club right now.  Yermin is likely dead so Burger can DH, he can cover 3B when Yoan stubs his toe leaving the club, and can maybe even cover 2B a time or two a week.  While he hasn't done it in AAA, I bet Burger could grab an OF glove and be every bit as serviceable as Sheets looked last night.  I'd get him up here.

I'm with you here. Burger could provide an offensive boost to a club sorely needing some pop.

I'm not dealing him for a rental, but in a package to land legitimate and/or cost controlled talent? Absolutely.

Guys - the Sox aren't moving Moncada off 3B for Jake Burger.  Stop talking about it.

I think Burger is more likely to be used as trade bait than to be called up before the deadline

I agree with ChiSox59 here, zero chance Moncada is pushed off 3B in favor of Burger

Why not Rodon and whoever for Zac Gallen  and Escobar ? Sure it's crazy to think about. But Rodon is gone next year and his health for the rest of the year and throughout the playoffs is questionable.

Gallen's health is also questionable. He missed part of spring training with a stress fracture in his pitching arm and just missed a month and a half for a partial UCL tear.

Today is his 1st start since then.

AZ might be wise to trade him now before TJ surgery. However he doesn't become a FA until 2026.

What if the Sox wanted to wait on a trade for Escobar to see how Gallen pitches today or another start after today ?  Lets say his arm holds up for 2 starts it's still at risk considering a partial tear of the UCL just doesn't heal in 1.5 months . Then there's the stress fracture earlier so his pitching arm is taking quite a beating.

Any trade with AZ might also take a bit longer because their GM is on leave because of his wife's illness  and they brought in Allard Baird a former GM and expanded the role of the Asst. GM. Trading Gallen would be a big decision for them . Also would be a big decision for the Sox to trade Rodon so they could stipulate that the Dbacks can trade Rodon to any team except the Indians as part of the trade.

Any way would be quite ballsy on the part of both teams so not likely to happen .

Most think trading Rodon would be a concession speech for this season but it doesn't have to be that way. Have to think outside the box some times.

Rodon is not getting dealt. Also, why would the Diamondbacks want him when they are years away from contending again?

Can’t even imagine Yankees’ fans posting this after they were swept by DET.

It does push us back down into the reality zone, and away from “the best team in baseball as is” nonsense.

Will be a race between Indians and Sox to get their players back.   Sox should have the financial resources to blow the Indians out of the water, but only if JR signs off on it.

Cleveland's schedule is absolutely brutal from July 1st to August 12th. If the Sox can tread water, we should be just fine.

It's 8,122 per game. Probably will start out season ticketholder only for a while. Even a few season ticketholders will be shutout at least a little bit.

As a long time season ticketholder, I can say I have been to a lot of games there were nowhere near 8,122 in attendance.

With COVID numbers continuing to heavily trend downward, we could be in a much better situation by mid April. Even more people will be vaccinated and I would expect a bump in fans by mid May assuming the trend continues.

So basically Folty was too highly thought of for the White Sox to sign. I still think the Sox need a pitcher who can give them innings.  I don't know if Folty was the guy. I would guess there is a chance he is available to be a Knight in  April or May. Remember Lincecum? Cease and Kopech are as talented as can be, but you have no idea what you are going to get. You have some sort of idea with Lopez. The 3 guys in front should be fine, but if someone gets hurt, and usually someone does, look out.

Trevor Cahill and Mike Leake could be potential minor league deal options for SP depth

The reason I think Vaughn will struggle less than most rookies is because of his approach at the plate. He's not a guy who will just keep chasing sliders away when he first comes up (Eloy, Robert, etc.).  Even in the intrasquad games that were televised last year, I remember constantly thinking, "Wow, this guy puts up a professional at-bat every time up there."

I'm confident Vaughn will hit too, I'm just not sure if it will be right away his rookie season. He has the best hit tool in the organization after Madrigal.

Personally, I would send him to AAA and force him to earn a promotion.

If he gets ~250 or so PA I can see 280/350/440.  Hard to project anything on less playing time.

I think its best to keep expectations for Vaughn largely in check until he proves otherwise. Rookies almost always tend to struggle in their adjustment to the major leagues.

The advanced scouting and pitching is at a completely different level even to AAA. The club really needs to bring in a guy like Brad Miller who can play a few different positions and DH a bit.

I've never understood the reasoning behind signing Bauer. He had an excellent 2018 season, and a similar one in a shortened 2020. But every other year his ERA has been above 4.  He's now 30 years old.  Should we expect him to go on a monster tear for the next several years?  Who knows.

Plus, if you sign Bauer for multiple years, there goes any extension for Lynn, and the Sox may be hard pressed to extend Giolito.

If he was free, I'd take him. Or if the Sox had unlimited funds, I'd take him. But I think he comes with a lot of opportunity costs that make him not the wisest investment.

I was in the "Sox must extend Lynn" camp initially, but since have opened up to the idea there might be more risk than value in an extension for a player that turns 34 years old in May. I think you squeeze what you can out of him this season and then evaluate.

Too many people who believe past performance will equal the future (on high and low salary players). You need a roster that includes some “buy low” candidates. Every year there’s guys like Rodon who turn it around. He was put into a ridiculous position late in the season, I think this is a good risk/reward signing.

    I agree.

Rodon is far from a sexy signing, but at least he is cheap and gives us pitching depth. He could be used as a backend starter or out of the bullpen. If healthy he can be effective.

Definitely .. a lot of this wishful thinking hinges on just how serious the mets are... if reports are true that he has a massive offer on the table then we are already out.

im hoping its all smoke and mirrors

Sadly, I doubt the Sox have had much, if any, contact with Bauer and his camp. There is no chance, even on a one year deal, they shell out $30+ million right now.

Would it be the ultimate win now move? Absolutely, but it just is not going to happen.

So we're at this point of the season.

    1) Jimmy Nelson

Dodgers liked him enough last year to give him a shot, based on his bullpens in milwaukee post shoulder ripping off his body. His fastball was slower at 92, but he featured a much better curveball. Then he hurt his back and womp womp was out for 2020 so we don't know, then the dodgers didn't pick up his option that wasn't that expensive. Not a good sign! but this is GARBAGE DUMP PITCHERS

    2) Folty

He completely lost his fastball and was awful. But what this post presupposes is...maybe he didn't?

    JK He's probably trash

    3) Matt Moore

He was really good to start 2019, then tore his meniscus. He was really good in the NPB last year, and wikipedia says he's a free agent. Remember when he was really good way back when? Probably still is.

    4) Trevor Williams

There is only one number that matters here, he is 29. That is not particularly young, but hey. Pirates pitchers that had some talent started to do better last year. Not williams, he was garbage. But maybe he won't be.

    5. Anibal Sanchez

So his fastball declined a full mph into the danger zone of below 90 last year. The only thing that I think is optimistic about a 37 year old pitcher with a LOT of mileage, is if he isn't completely done, wouldn't it make sense that perhaps it was due to the start/stop/start/stop of 2020? No? Probably right.

    6. Chase Anderson - Objectively horrible last year but his stuff still looked fine? People barrelled up everything. Maybe we can just say "2020 shrug"?

Thank you for your time. And before you ask "what about?". If they are good, they are not allowed here!

Other guy I thought about: Tommy Milone.

Toss in Chris Archer and Mike Leake to the scrap heap as well

Let's not get too excited about potential line-ups or how many HR's we can expect if we land Cruz.  Pitching and defense win championships, and our line-up is potent enough IF we had stronger pitching.  By stronger I don't mean any of our outstanding prospects,  I mean a proven starter like Tanaka or Paxton.

Giving Cruz 2 years would be a mistake.

Sox won't go anything beyond a one year deal + a club option with buyout. Cruz is nearly 41 years old, the wheels could fall off at any time. Father time always wins eventually.
