I don't think they're going to trade Kelley 6 months after he played a game with other teams so the Sox could land him in the 2nd round. If other teams would have known he'd have signed at that dollar amount, Kelley would have been a 1st round pick.

Trading Kelley would basically guarantee that a deal like that could never be done again for at least a decade.

I also do not like shipping off such a promising prep arm so early in his development. He certainly has the pedigree to become a top 100 prospect by end of this season if he performs.

I'd be pretty surprised if he were dealt unless we were receiving a #2 in return.

If it's a package including Madrigal, Corbin Burnes is my guess. The White Sox have always loved him. I'd do Madrigal, Stiever and Heuer for Burnes in a heartbeat. I'd be interested in Musgrove as well but not for that package.

I like Burnes, but is he a guy we can trust to stay healthy? I am not so sure he is the kind of pitcher I would give up a haul for.

What type is the "good prospect?"

Heard Jared Kelley's name come up. I'm sure many clubs would be very interested in him.

I am fine with giving up Madrigal/Heuer/plus in a package, but trading our most advanced young pitching prospect is not ideal at this stage. Sox need to clear 40 man roster spots, so I would focus on subtracting from there before dipping into top 10 prospects on the farm.

Getz said they are grooming him as a starter

The smartest thing the organization can do would be to let Crochet develop as a SP in the minor leagues. They can always call him up later in the season to reinforce the bullpen.

Well the Sox could have had Hand for 1 year 10 million and be done. But all teams passed on that deal so his market most likely has to be around 8 million.

    Bingo.

Hand is likely to get less than most think. Under normal circumstances his 1/$10 million contract would be picked up by some club looking for bullpen help.

I’ve decided that I want Musgrove. If you take out 2017 when he was used as a reliever for a large portion of the season, he has 7.2 WAR across 68 starts. That’s over 3 WAR per 30 starts. And when you look at his baseball savant numbers, he has been underperforming based on his metrics. They look near elite, which tells me he’s either going to continue being the same pitcher or possibly unlock something that takes him to the next level. Sign me up. In my opinion, worst case is he’s a solid 3/4 piece of the rotation.

I like Musgrove, but what is the cost assuming their are quite a few suitors?

I think clubs would like to see how FA plays out before dealing from their farm.

If the Cuban stars align, Yolbert will click and Cespedes gets up here quickly, allowing the Sox to roll out this line up:

    SS - Anderson
    3B - Moncada
    1B - Abreu
    LF - Eloy
    C - Grandal
    CF - Robert
    DH - Vaughn
    RF - Cespedes
    2B - Yolbert

P - Vera (who for the sake of this scenario, quickly ascended through the Sox farm system in a way no one saw coming).

    Did Madrigal die?

Lol, they're not bringing Vaughn up to ride the bench and only play against lefties and they aren't playing Schwarber over Vaughn once Vaughn arrives.

If the Sox sign Schwarber, they clearly don't think AV is ready.  Which goes against most of what we've heard from Hahn.

    Schwarber wasn't a fit pre-Eaton, and he's less of a fit now.

Sox could always sign a guy like Shin Soo Choo on the cheap to DH and then dump him once Vaughn proves ready

He won't come up until July at the earliest if we sign a DH. The excuse will be that he needs to play in AA and AAA first. Especially if the signed DH is having a great season.

Keeping Vaughn down is not even really playing the service time game. He has yet to face anything above high A ball pitching.

No reason to rush our best prospect

I agree, I am circling paxton, though his fb was awful last year. But still feel slightly more confident than Kluber.

Paxton is a guy we should be very interested in. If healthy, he could be an outstanding #4

Just do not expect more than 130-150 innings out of him.

  11. 24 minutes ago, manbearpuig said:

He wasn't on a team last year so it's not reduced. Hence, why he was able to sign during this period. We are in the period where you can only negotiate with your own free agents but MLBTR points out that he was not on a team so he is free to sign.

    No risk deal as depth

i THINK I would rather have Joc on a 2 year deal or something than Brantley on 1.  Honestly his defenses scares the bajesus out of me.. I'd hate to have another bad OF in the corner.

Joc was pretty terrible in 2020 for what it is worth

I think its far more likely he is starting in the minors (if there is a minors season) and comes up in late July/early August for the pen to control innings.  They need to stretch him out.

Tough decision ahead for the Sox. The tiny glimpse we saw in 2020 showed he can be an impactful bullpen arm right now, but it may be better to let him develop in the minors as a starting pitcher in the long run.

If you’re ok hiring a manager fired for cheating—by a cheating organization—that’s your business.  I don’t want to touch that with a ten-foot pole, especially with this org’s history.

I believe in giving second chances.

It is difficult to argue that any other candidate out there has a stronger track record though.

I was wondering if Vaugh  can he play right field?  Has he played in the outfield ever? If the best thing happens next year and he makes the team the DH spot would be a bad idea. The current first basemen really doe not not like being a DH. I think he does a good job at first base.  It will be interesting to see how that hopefully shakes out next spring training and regular season

Highly unlikely that Vaughn could hold up and play passable defense in the major leagues at RF

He simply does not have enough speed per scouting reports and would be a liability out there

Baseball isn't an easy sport, especially for pitchers.  You see them talk about an acceptable amount of aches and pains on a regular basis.  My guess is this is a way of letting him get rid of some aches that he would normally pitch through, but with a playoff spot clinched they are getting him as ready as possible for the playoffs.

Really interesting they are calling up Crochet. I do wonder if this means Bummer/Rodon are not likely to return this season.

I’m sure the Sox have thought of Vaughn in right.   They must have a good handle on if he can do it or not.   I really can’t see him over some time being worse than Eloy.  His arm would be important, if it’s serviceable.

If they determined Vaughn is not an option they need to make the full time switch to Engel.   Mazara has had his options.

I do not think the Sox are going to screw with one of their top prospects and ask him to play considerably out of position.

Short of an injury, I think they leave him in Schaumburg and work to get him ready for the MLB in 2021

    My only two takeaways:

    - I wouldn’t have Yolbert on the list

    - I’d probably have Pilkington lower

    - I think Fosters writeup kinda misses that his stuff changed.

I really, really disliked Hostetlers drafted pitchers in rounds 2-10 but obviously they found some good bullpen pieces.

Jonathan Stiever is looking like a quality draft pick^
