  1. These are all good problems to have as our system was sorely lacking depth as recently as a year ago. Competition is only a good thing and the best players/prospects will get playing time. Positional versatility will be key.
  2. Huh???? Flawed college player? You do realize that Madrigal was the best college position player by a considerable margin, right? Players like Albies, Altuve, Biggio, Pedroia, Hernandez, etc. are all similar sized to Madrigal and are/were excellent. Rank Name Pos Age Hit Game Raw Speed Field Arm FB SL CB CH CT CMD Sits Top If you look at his profile, we should be very excited about the player he can become. Also, how does a high school pitcher in Stewart or position player in Groshans fit into our window? 1 Casey Mize RHP 21.1 60 / 60 50 / 55 55 / 60 60 / 65 45 / 50 92-96 97 2 Nick Madrigal 2B 21.2 40 / 70 30 / 50 40 / 45 70 / 70 55 / 60 50 / 50
  3. My board: 1) Mize 2) Madrigal 3) Bart 4) Bohm 5) Singer In that order
  4. Sox have had plenty of time to evaluate players and make the correct decision here. I'm hoping we can trust them to not screw up a very important draft for the franchise. Who we select will immediately become a key part of the rebuild.
  5. Madrigal seems like a guy who could be a rock solid starter on a good team batting first or second and setting the table for Eloy.
  6. Just to clarify, this board will riot when/if the Sox select Signer, right? haha
  7. I want Madrigal in what appears to be a fairly shallow draft in terms of top end talent. There are plenty of quality players in the middle rounds with good upside though.
  8. I don't see Jose Altuve upside with Madrigal, especially with the power numbers that Altuve has put up recently. Madrigal might be good for 8-12 homers a year, but I don't see him ever reaching 20+ bombs. A 40 grade power guy is not likely to turn that into a 55/60 grade tool. Also Altuve has one of the best hit tools in the major leagues and serious speed. I really like Madrigal, but being realistic about him you would have to be happy drafting Cesar Hernandez.
  9. Law has the Sox going Singer and passing on Madrigal
  10. Madrigal seems to be the board's favorite guy, but I just can't help seeing him as having the same sort of upside as Cesar Hernandez https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hernace02.shtml Hernandez is a solid player, but I wouldn't consider him to be a star or having tons of upside. Should we be looking for a higher ceiling with a top five pick?
  11. Think the Sox have any interest in India @ #4? I know he's tough to judge because of his amazing 2018 out of nowhere, but I just get the feeling we may regret passing on him.
  12. If the Sox go Singer he might be the most unpopular first round draft pick on this board in quite some time. Later in the draft I really like Nick Sandlin and Adam Wolf. Polished college pitchers.
  13. That is how my draft board looks, except I'm not certain whether I'd rather have Bohm or Bart. Likely Bart due to his ability to stick at catcher defensively.
  14. Really hope we end up snagging Madrigal in the draft. I tend to agree with Fangraphs that Singer is largely overrated. I won't be that upset if we end up with Singer, but I think he projects to be a #3/4 starter and not a #1/2.
  15. Law's latest is an add ball mock Bart, Winn, Mize, Singer, Madrigal Says he doesn't think that will actually happen
  16. I would reject that offer as well. I think we would want more than the Rockies would be willing to give.
  17. Schnell seems like a solid prospect, but a pretty massive reach at #4 overall despite the pool savings. If we were picking in the teens it could make sense, but not with a top 5 selection.
  18. Heyman proposes this trade: "Jose Abreu and Nate Jones to the Rockies for Ryan McMahon and Riley Pint. The Rockies may need a little more firepower to become a true threat, and Ian Desmond can play anywhere. McMahon is better than he showed early, and Pint’s slipped a bit on their prospect list." I don't love this deal at all for the White Sox. McMahon hasn't shown much in 50 mlb games and Pint has arguably been a disaster of a draft pick for the Rockies. I would 100% need Welker to be in a Rockies package for me to consider it.
  19. My draft board would look like: 1) Mize if available, highly unlikely 2) Nick Madrigal 3) Brady Singer 4) Bart or Bohm
  20. All of those guys have significant question marks. India - Is he a one year wonder? He never was this good before Kelenic - Not a good track record from HS selections from Wisconsin. High School players carry risk. Liberatore - HS pitching = risky Stewart - HS right handed pitching is even more risky than left handers. Swaggerty - Solid toolset, but fairly mediocre production against average competition raises questions
  21. "Always be trading relievers" is a very true statement due to their volatility. Fry doesn't have the track record to get you much in return at this point, we are better off keeping him. Jones needs to step it up and he could end up being a trade candidate. Teams only really pay up for the premium set up men and closers though. Decent middle relievers are not all that expensive to acquire.
  22. All indications as of right now are: 1) Mize to Detroit 2) Bart to SF 3) Bohm to PHI 4) Madrigal to SOX Really tough to be upset about that. Madrigal seems a pretty safe bet to develop into a solid mlb player given his overall toolset. He likely will never be a superstar, but is the sort of player fans would be very happy to have on the team given his ability to play several positions. Fangraphs would rank him #35 overall prospect right now,
  23. A 2-3 WAR player is still a VERY valuable and useful player to have. A championship team needs several rock solid starters to build around. I would absolutely take a Cesar Hernandez/Luis Urias type player to plug into our lineup for the next 6+ years up the middle. I don't think he's in the Pedroia/Altuve/Albies tier of player, but a tier below that is still a hell of a prospect.
  24. In a year without true "elite" talent at the top of the draft, I think Madrigal pretty much is our guy. Our system lacks depth in the middle infield, and he clearly has the best hit tool in the draft. The speed and defense help him to be a solid overall prospect, even if the power isn't great. He could end up being a pretty fast riser through a minor league system and help contribute at the mlb level fairly soon. If he is gone I'd take a look at Bart and Bohm if available.
