  1. Lohse, Garland, Willis ... good things the Cubs traded all three away. hate to imagine their staff with those three, too
  2. like that by Paulie Hocking didn't even run at first
  3. Damn, Hawk scared the s*** out of me when he said, "THAT BALL HIT DEEP."
  4. ANy indication of the crowd? better be at least 30000
  5. there won't be a small game the rest of the year let's enjoy
  6. TV graphic just said AJ Punkcynski has the second highest career batting average against the Sox Bernie Williams is first, AJ second, Ortiz third, Erstad on the list, too. also said Koskie has hit Colon well during his career
  7. interesting twinkies lineup can't let hocking hurt us at all. NOT AT ALL. he's had WAY TOO MANY big hits against us in recent years. And with Rivas a little banged up, Hocking is going to play lots this series. LeCroy has also been good for them since the all-star game. I would say I'm happy Kielty is gone, but I fear Stewart (his replacement). Also like to see Jose step up. He's talked a lot of s*** to the Twins for the last three years. Time to put up or shut up, No. 22
  8. for the second time in a week, mlb radio is screwed up. not getting the Sox feed when you click on the Sox icon. 1. anybody else having the problem? 2. If so, please call the 1-866.800.1275, punch option two and complain.
  9. Shaffer is the guy who really went to bat for Borchard. I'd say his future hinges on how Borchard performs the next two seasons. Not sure what to think about Majewski. The Sox have traded him once and exposed him to the Rule Five Draft. That tells me they have serious doubts about his ability as a big-league pitcher. But they also traded to get him back and moved him up in the system. My guess is that he's a marginal prospect at best.
  10. Minny has also won 10 of its last 13. They're playing well -- and comfortable playing against us. Taking three out of four would be a solid achievement for the Sox.
  11. Quintero is even better than Machado defensively Saw him pick a guy off second and first in the same inning last year. And players around the Southern League said it wasn't the first time he did that. I'm also puzzled by the handing of Rivera. He hit well at Charlotte. He has big-league experience. But there must be a reason Detroit and San Diego had no use for him either.
  12. We've had success against Lohse this year we hit pretty well over the weekend. Bartolo has thrown well the last two starts. The Twins are a cocky and confident team that needs to be knocked down a few pegs. Starting tonight
  13. There's no reason to give up on Cotts -- or even for Melton to be down on him. Many, many pitchers struggle with control. Some figure it out. Some don't. It would be nice if the Sox could find the right formula (pitching coach) to help him turn the corner. But I'm convinced he'll be back, perhaps by the middle of the 2004 season.
  14. Quintero had NEVER hit before this season, so it was a surprise to see him break out this season for the padres. I've seen him play, and believe it or not, he's just as good, if not better than Olivo defensively. But he has absolutely no power -- and I can't believe he'll hit in the big leagues (Quintero, that is). What kind of hitter is Stewart? He's a big kid -- 6-4, 205 -- who played on the same JC team with Ryan Wing.
  15. don't forget Brian West. There is another guy who has stalled. I believe Bajenaru also had arm problems. The Sox positioned themselves for a great run in the early 1990s by drafting (in order) these first round picks 87 -- McDowell 88 -- Ventura 89 -- Thomas 90 -- Fernandez. All college guys. All guys ready to make an impact in a year or two. All gamers. Since then, the best Number One pick we've had has probably been Kip Wells -- and we all know what the GM that turned into. The Eddie Pearson, Mark Johnson, Jeff Liefer and Jason Dellaero picks were all killers. It is highly unusual to have a run of four picks such as the McDowell-Fernandez string. But we HAVE to get more out of our first-round picks than we have for the last 10 years.
  16. And let's not forget the man Bartolo replaced in the rotation: Big Game Todd Ritchie. Bartolo has been less successful than I hoped, but Loaiza has been off the charts more successful than any of us dreamed. That's baseball. Every team has similar tales. Think the Twinkies have gotten their money's worth from their Big $$$$ pitcher -- Brad Radke? In the end Bartolo will be judged by how he pitches in his last four starts -- as well as (fingers crossed) how he pitches in October.
  17. If Carlos Pulido indeed starts on Tuesday, here are some stax and facts on him. he's a 32 year old lefty from Venezuela bounced around baseball since making his mlb debut in 1994 pitched in Mexican league last year pitched nearly all of this season at Rochester. 12-5 record 25 starts 149 innings 145 hits 3.56 ERA 40 walks 87 strikeouts he's been in the big leagues for a few weeks he's pitched in three games 8 innings no earned runs 5 hits 0 walks 5 Ks Rick Reed pitched 2 innings in relief today. They're still down on Joe mays. Word is Pulido -- or a rookie named Balfour, who also pitched today -- will start Tuesday. Sounds as if the Twins are wise to the fact that sox struggle against soft-tossers they have never seen before. At least that's what it sounds like.
  18. 1. PK game-tier and Frank walkoff vs. Twinkies. 2. Jose's walk-off winner against the Cubs. 3. The 4-3 extra inning win in Toronto for the seventh game in the eight-game winning streak. 4. The 15-4 smackdown vs. the Royals, including Jose's three HRs 5. Buehrle over Mulder 3-2 in on August 8 6. Crede's walkoff three-run homer vs. Tigers on May 25.
  19. WGN on the cubs' bandwagon sending BlowDry Roan to San Juan to be with GN's beloved cubbies never mind the sox are playing the Twinkies in town
  20. actually i believe it goes like this Monday: Lohse vs. Colon Tuesday: Pulido vs. Buehrle Wed: Santana vs. Garland Thursday: Radke vs. Loaiza
  21. what I find interesting is that Minnesota is starting this Pulido guy tuesday against Buehrle. don't know much about him, other than he was in the minors most of the season and he's a bit older. Can anybody deliver the word on the Tuesday Twinkies starter?
